SPORTS & MORE: WHERE WERE THE ANNOUNCERS FOR MIAMI ... (Florida Keys Weekly)

I watched the Miami Heat game on March 23 as I usually do. Following their loss to the Golden State Warriors, I scanned the internet.

So, a reporter from Newsday and I walked into the Ohio State dressing room and without hindrance talked to Lucas. Saturday, a few hundred reporters seated in a large room will have the opportunity to question the stars of the game. The next day, the near-fight was at the top of the news. But I did speak with the Magic man. We didn’t get the opportunity to talk to him. It was reported a few days later that the Heat had instructed the announcers not to mention it. It took the rest of the players to hold back the combatants. There was tape of the incident. The media’s first question was about the near-fight. I turned back to the post-game report that included the coach’s press conference. It wasn’t described on the Bally Sports channel. Following their loss to the Golden State Warriors, I scanned the internet. No particular reason, but I found a story by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel about a third-quarter scrum on the Heat sideline, a near-fight involving coach Erik Spoelstra and players Jimmy Butler and Udonis Haslem.

It’ll be the Hornets’ first game past the end of the regular season since 2016, when they lost a first-round series to Miami in seven games. Heat: The game technically was the 1,111th of Spoelstra’s coaching career, a figure that includes games he’s missed for family reasons and virus-related issues. The Hornets hit their first four 3-pointers for a 14-4 lead 2:57 into the game. Hornets: Charlotte is locked into the play-in tournament. “That’s why they are a title contender,” Hornets coach James Borrego said of the Heat. “They’ve got depth, size, they shoot it, they defend. Hayward had missed 22 games because of a left ankle sprain before his 17-minute outing against Philadelphia. They are a hell of a group, so give them credit. We just have to fix that.” They dropped to 10th in the East after Brooklyn defeated Houston. “That’s what you get when you play on a good team with a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things. Robinson’s 3-pointer with 7:55 remaining capped the run for a 117-99 lead. They trust me to have the ball in my hands and let me be myself,” Herro said.

Just looking at the Martin brothers who faced off a night ago, sometimes it’s clear that branching off is the best thing for a player’s success. Yes, the DHO’s of Adebayo may have propelled Robinson’s shooting in a positive direction, but it’s pretty clear that slotting him next to Butler and Herro is the better call right now. This isn’t to say that Robinson won’t still struggle from time to time in his role, but it’s more about setting these guys up in the best possible ways. One of the most lethal offensive combos over the years has been Robinson and Bam Adebayo, since they mastered the dribble hand-off that constantly had defenses in a scramble from night to night. Since that change, Strus is averaging a little under 4 threes a night on 50% shooting, and all of the best two man combos seem to include him. While opposing teams began to adjust, it felt like Miami was a bit delayed on the adjustment on their part.

The Heat had one more chance (or actually two more chances) and made the most of them. He threw a floater that clanked on the front of the rim, bounced high in the air and by the time it landed through the net there were only .8 seconds left for the Heat to attempt a desperation three. Bang!” The Heat beat up the Spurs in overtime and then won Game 7 for their third (and hopefully not last) championship. Whether it was coincidence or the impetus the Heat needed they went on a run for the ages. Down three games to two, and down five points with only 28 seconds left it seemed the Spurs had clinched their fifth NBA championship. Without their most valuable player the Zo-less Heat got slaughtered in game 5 allowing the Knicks to move on to the next round. No team had been as close to losing an NBA Finals as the 2013 Miami Heat only to come back to win it. The Heat were up by double digits with minutes left to bring the series back to three games to two with the Knicks having a chance to close out the series at home. It took a couple years, but the Heat finally looked like the team we expected when LeBron said the Heat would win “not one, not two, not three” championships. Then at the end of overtime with five seconds left the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum drove towards the basket for what appeared to be a game tying dunk. He laced up for the decisive game 7 and scored 20 points coming off the bench, but neither that nor Shaq’s 27 points, nor a six point 4th quarter lead proved to be enough. Nobody was respecting a 34 year-old Dwyane Wade. Everyone was calling him washed up, after the Heat found themselves down 3 games to 2 against the Charlotte Hornets. The loudest voice belonged to a giant fan sitting courtside in Charlotte wearing a ridiculous purple shirt and karate kid bandana.

A look at where the Miami Heat stands in the Eastern Conference hierarchy and scenarios involving a potential first-round opponent.

▪ Bam Adebayo has gone 15 consecutive games shooting at least 50 percent from the field in each of them. They’ve got a starting unit and a bench unit.” The Heat had no immediate update on PJ Tucker’s strained right calf, an injury sustained in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game. Philadelphia cannot surpass Miami for the top seed. The Nets would be the most daunting among potential opponents. They got depth, size, they shoot it, they defend.
