Masters Par-3 Contest: Here's who stole the show on Wednesday ... (Golf.com)

The Masters Par-3 Contest gives us a rare look into the lives of our favorite pros. Here's who shined on Wednesday at Augusta National.

I’m bummed we didn’t get to see JT and Spieth, and I’m really bummed we didn’t get to see DJ and Paulina. Tiger’s resting up for the rest of the week, but it also would’ve been fun to see Sam and Charlie out there as well. They each stuck their tee shots on the 1st hole to just a few feet, and they were mic’d up so the patrons could hear and interact with them. Not to mention, his interactions with his dad were just the sweetest. I will, however, give a shoutout to the handful of Tour kids who forever made their mark on the golf world during the Par-3 Contest today. I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the depth in the Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson and Tony Finau pairing. I’m so glad that we got to experience the Par-3 Contest for the first time since 2019 today, but it did get cut short due to weather. For those of you who don’t know, Zhu played golf at Pepperdine, so I’m sure she was a huge asset to have on the bag today. I love the Par-3 Contest not just because of all the amazing photos that come out of it, but because we get to see the world’s most famous golfers interact with their loved ones. I also couldn’t help but notice that Koepka has a mic on his hat … which potentially has something to do with the upcoming golf docuseries on Netflix. Kudos to the photographer who got everyone looking at the camera for these! But in my opinion, nothing beats the Masters Par-3 Contest. We get to see an unbuttoned version of even the most serious pros. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill, “everyone throw on khakis and the closest thing to a clean white shirt you’ve got, we’re heading down to the beach to take our Christmas Card” shots.

Mike Weir and Mackenzie Hughes tied for first at 4-under 23, the first time there were dual winners since 2012.

Jason Kokrak made the lone hole-in-one when he aced the fourth hole. It’s the 101st hole-in-one in the Par 3 Contest. One of the best traditions at the Masters is the Par 3 Contest.

Three years ago, Jack Nicklaus’s grandson was the one who captured Augusta’s attention as he hit an ace on the final hole. Tommy Fleetwood’s son, Franklin, sported a full caddie outfit as he sprinted down the course after his father’s ball. And although it was not the first time he had done it on Wednesday, the crowd gave him quite the reception on one hole in particular.

On Wednesday, golf fans were treated to a bevy of babies and young kids who were on hand to watch their dads in the Masters Par-3 Contest.

As a four-year member of Columbia’s inaugural class of female varsity golfers, Jessica can out-birdie everyone on the masthead. The contest is traditionally a family affair, with wives or girlfriends acting as caddies and the players’ kids tagging along for the fun. She can out-hustle them in the office, too, where she’s primarily responsible for producing both print and online features, and overseeing major special projects, such as GOLF’s inaugural Style Issue, which debuted in February 2018.

Notable: Matsuyama shot 65 in the third round and went on to beat Will Zalatoris by one shot at 10-under 278. He had to hit a 5-wood because his drive is landing on the upslope of the fairway. The Korn Ferry Tour has estimated that 900 or more points will be enough to finish among the top-25 and earn a Tour card for 2022-23. "I think it makes the tee shot on 15 easier just because it's pretty wide where I'm kind of hitting it," he said. The Par-3 Contest has not been held the last two years and three of the last five years. "David, it was when he was at the peak of his powers," Van Pelt said. Got a good bit of practice the last couple weeks, back in the gym, body feels good. The Augusta National Golf Club made the most significant changes this year to the par-4 11th hole and the par-5 15th hole, which also involved more length. But at that point in time, oh, if you win that, you've got no chance of winning the tournament, so I flopped a couple in the water on purpose on that hole and shot your even par or whatever it was and moved on." "It's a pretty good name to have yours up against, isn't it, really," he said Tuesday. "So I'm really looking forward to it. "But I think all in all, the guys — looking back on it like we are now, would have loved to have won the Par-3. My gosh, what a wonderful event to have your name on." And since Smith has three top-10s in his last four starts at Augusta, he likes his chances this week.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The traditional Par 3 Contest was knocked out by COVID-19 regulations ahead of the 2020 and 2021 Masters Tournaments.

“It’s funny, when you don’t have children, the Par 3 seems like a bit of an afterthought, and then once kids arrive, it sort of becomes the highlight of the week in a way,” said Rory McIlroy, who is seeking his first Masters win. We recommend interesting sports viewing and streaming opportunities. The contest is an anticipated event, for both patrons and competitors.

He won in 2018 at the age of 68. The hole with the most aces is No. 9, with 24 total (21 present course, three original course). But how the Par-3 winner does on the big course is always a fun storyline to track. The event was first hosted in 1960 and won by Sam Snead. While the winner gets a crystal bowl for lowest score, many allow shots to be hit by children or family members rather than posting an official number (that way they can avoid that pesky aforementioned curse). It’s been a few years since we had the Masters Par-3 Contest grace our TV screens.

Masters notebook: Weir, Hughes share win at Par 3 contest (USA TODAY)

As tradition dictates, there is now very bad news to report about Canadian golfers Mike Weir and Mackenzie Hughes.

“We are going to go forward on our own timetable and make changes we think to,” Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said. It has become too easy for their liking, with the majority of players able to reach the green in two shots. He had made four consecutive birdies and was within striking distance of leader and eventual winner Hideki Matsuyama last year when he went to the 16th. No player has won the Par 3 Contest and gone on to win the Masters in the same year, a trend that Weir and Hughes will both try to buck when this year’s tournament starts Thursday. The hole was playing at 184 yards for the final round. Some of the “patrons” on the short course, with holes ranging from 70 to about 140 yards in length, didn’t exactly behave. ... I waited a year to hit that shot again.” “I walked up and hit a 7-iron this year,” Schauffele said. The 2020 and 2021 events didn’t happen because of the pandemic. And a new $3 egg, meat and cheese breakfast sandwich is on this year’s menu as well. Weir and Hughes shared the Par 3 title on Wednesday, both finishing 4 under. This is a very special day for me,” Hughes said.
