11 different Cavaliers recorded a goal and No. 16 Virginia women's lacrosse routed VCU 23-5 on Wednesday night at Klockner Stadium.
Virginia proceeded to score the next five goals and six of the last seven goals of the game. Kiki Shaw scored three of her team-leading four goals in the second quarter. After Juliana George scored VCU's second goal of the game with 4:12 left in the opening quarter, Virginia went on to score 14 of the next 15 goals.
Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff didn't mince words Tuesday night when he gave his assessment of how his players performed against the woeful Orlando Magic.
... We definitely have to have a better effort than we showed [Tuesday night]." Some of it was our schemes, some of it was our coverages and some of it was our effort. We have to look at the film and be better next time." “It was a game [Tuesday] that obviously meant a lot and had a lot of implications and we just got outcompeted,” Love said. "We can’t wait until the fourth quarter to try to make a comeback. The Cavs had a 35-21 record following a win over the host Indiana Pacers on Feb. 11. "There were too many times over and over again where we didn’t show the fight that we needed to show. For the most part this year, our guys have given it to us. "We have our moments where we are solid and we are really good at what we do, and then we have moments where we don't get the job done. Bickerstaff said Tuesday that Mobley will practice Thursday and be re-evaluated ahead of Friday's 7:30 p.m. tipoff at the Brooklyn Nets. "They had a mindset of they were just going to attack and we didn't take the challenge to keep guys in front of us and keep them out of the paint. It is extremely disappointing for us in this moment to come out and play like this."
Good morning. Yesterday's game sucked, but so have most games they've played without Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. This team just isn't running out ...
The Nets and Hawks both have winnable games on the second night of a back-to-back. The Cavs would have the tiebreaker over the Hornets if it came down to it. Despite the awful performance against the Orlando Magic, the Cavs are still in a decent position to grab the 7th or 8th seed which would mean they would only need to win one of two possible play-in games to advance to the playoffs.
The Cavs had a shaky defensive night against the Magic, and once again showed how vital Allen and Mobley have been to their success this season.
The Cavs have two more games to try and hold on to the No. 7 seed, which would give them homecourt advantage for the play-in tournament and only require them to win one game to make it to a traditional seven-game playoff series. And then we have moments where we don’t get the job done. “So we definitely miss them and what they bring to the table. No. 10 play-in game (which is still a possibility given how close the standings are), they would need to win two games in order to make it to the playoffs, taking on the loser of the No. 7 vs. And again, for the most part this year guys have given it to us. “We have our moments where we’re solid, and we’re really good at what we do. But nevertheless, their absence is not an excuse for what transpired on Tuesday, even though it raises plenty of questions about what it means for the Cavs going forward with the play-in tournament looming. Both excel at altering shots and using their verticality on defense -- especially Mobley who has 132 blocks this season with just 145 personal fouls called against him. The Cavs ended with a 121.7 defensive rating. That’s still good enough for sixth in the league. Over the last 16 games, the Cavs have gone 6-10 and have managed just a 117.3 defensive rating as a team. Even with those guys out, we could have done a lot better job tonight.”
It seems like forever ago that the Cleveland Cavaliers were the new kids on the block, ready to shock the conference and lead the way.
He made his big league debut with the Rays in 2019 before being traded to the Angels, where he’s spent a fair bit of time on the big league roster. A team down 21-17 in the final minute could get a shot at overtime with a big-legged kicker, and it would only make the dilemma of what to do that much more interesting. He’d put that notion to rest in 2010, when he joined the Blackhawks and helped them to the first of three Stanley Cup championships. The Lakers have played horribly over the second half of the season and are likely going to miss the playoffs. He’ll do so by inking a one-day contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday in order to officially retire as a member of the team. Yes, if a program is involved in something truly terrible, it should face some sort of punishment — ideally, one that hits at the coaches and administrators involved rather than the athletes who had nothing to do with it. Not only will it facilitate the best possible postseason, but it’ll also add a new layer of suspense to the regular season — and make every game count. We know now, several years into the Playoff era, that a four-team field sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. The common refrain is to expand the field to six teams, or eight teams, but why not give the committee flexibility? Every time such a major reform is proposed, the reaction from the establishment has been to assure us that the sky will fall and that college sports will be forever tainted. Cleveland, once a top four seed, is now the No. 7 seed and is in danger of falling in the play-in. We ought to adopt the Canadian Football League standard of only overturning a call when a "clear and obvious" mistake has been made. Cleveland hasn’t had the best luck, but that is just one factor in why I don’t trust the Cavs to win a series.
The Cavs and Raptors first met in 2016, when it was LeBron James' second year back in Cleveland. The Cavs became instant championship contenders upon LeBron's ...
Ultimately it was a complete mismatch for them against the Cavaliers. The Raptors were able to get 2 wins, but in the other games it was never close. Interestingly enough, in the last 6 years the Cavs and Raptors have already built up some rivalry history in the playoffs. The Cleveland Cavaliers expect to be a contender for years to come, but unlike the last time the Cavs were contenders the Eastern Conference looks a lot tougher this time around.
Mo Bamba had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Ignas Brazdeikis scored 20 off the bench and the Orlando Magic beat the Cavaliers 120-115 to stop a six-game losing ...
... Forward Franz Wagner, who missed his first game of the season Sunday after starting 78 in a row, started and played seven minutes before leaving with a sprained right ankle. Bamba hit all five of his 3-point shots in the first 10 minutes to help the Magic quickly erase the Cavs' 14-3 game-opening burst. “It’s a game of runs, and we did a good job of sticking with it tonight. ... All-Star center Jarrett Allen missed his 16th game with a broken finger. As the game went on we got a little better at both ends.” ... Fultz started his first game since tearing his ACL on Jan. 6, 2021. Cavaliers: Center Evan Mobley missed his fifth consecutive game with a sprained ankle. We didn't show the fight that we needed to show." ... Forward Wendell Carter Jr. (sprained left wrist) missed a fourth consecutive game. We actually didn’t start off that good, but we made a run back into it,” Fultz said. We didn’t get the job done. We let their record, and who they have out, dictate how we played.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers fumbled for the fourth time in the last five games after surrendering a 120-115 loss to the Orlando Magic.
They’ll host the Brooklyn Nets on April 8 in a game that will almost certainly have an impact on their postseason aspirations. Falling to 43-37, Cleveland has been eliminated from outright playoff contention and will now have to fight to stay within the seventh and eighth seeds. Building an early double-digit lead to open the game, Cleveland appeared to have taken its foot off the pedal, allowing the home team to immediately race back and make it competitive.
See how the Cavaliers stack up compared to their competition in the Play-In Tournament in Wednesday's playoff tracker.
They were outscored, 42-18, in the fourth. The good news for now is that they are 1.5 games up on Atlanta to stay in the 7-8 game, which gives them two chances to win and get into the playoffs. With those tough opponents on the schedule, they may need some help to play in the 7-8 game. What’s happened lately: As bad as Tuesday’s loss to the Magic was, the Cavaliers did get a reprieve thanks to Toronto beating Atlanta on Tuesday night. Kyrie Irving dropped 42 points and served a reminder of why the Nets might be the most likely team to advance to the regular playoffs. Washington (.443). Remaining games: Wednesday at New York (.443), Friday vs. With the loss, the Hornets need a lot of help to avoid the 9-10 game for the second year in a row. What’s happened lately: The Hawks failed to capitalize on the Cavaliers falling in Orlando when they lost in Toronto. They now fell to ninth as a result of Brooklyn holding the tiebreaker. Orlando (.263), Friday at Chicago (.570), Sunday vs. They just need to avoid another slip-up to keep the pressure on the Cavaliers and Hawks. Should the Cavaliers pull off a surprising win in Brooklyn on Friday night, they will be guaranteed to finish with a better record than the Nets. But wherever they land at the end of the regular season, they need to hope Evan Mobley and/or Jarrett Allen can be available for the Play-In for their best chance to get to the playoffs.
Jalen Suggs returned after a 10-game absence, and helped the Magic defeat the Cavaliers.
Of course, the starting lineup next season is far from decided but Fultz sees what Suggs brings to the court on a nightly basis for the Magic. His rookie campaign has been marred by various injuries but the final two contests will give him the chance to build positive momentum heading into the season. I think just the pace he plays at and the way he gets to his spots and pullups at his own time and is never rushed, we’ve really been dissecting the game and working with each other off the court and I think it has helped me big time. I was just grateful, really happy especially to get the win, that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. He went 2-of-5 from the field as the Magic opted to ease him back into action with a minutes restriction. The injury came as Suggs battled through a sprain on the same ankle during the early part of the month.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been struggling to add to the win column as of late, and a big reason why is that a couple of key players have been out with ...
The Cavs could end their playoff drought this season, but surely the team wants more than just an appearance. Luckily, it sounds as though Mobley could return from his ankle injury sometime in the near future. - Report: Evan Mobley could make return for Cavs on Friday vs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are still set to make the postseason but it looks like they'll be limping into it. The team is barely hanging onto its.
Now they’ll have to beat Brooklyn Friday to do so. After the loss on Tuesday, they will have to defeat Brooklyn on Friday to stay in their current spot. Cleveland’s loss to Orlando was a costly one.
There's not much margin for error, but the Brooklyn Nets got some help from their competitors on Tuesday night. The Eastern Conference playoff picture is in ...
Atlanta plays Washington, at Miami and at Houston to close the season. The Nets are 5-point favorites against the Knicks on Wednesday, and will be favored in their final pair of games as well. If Brooklyn wins their final three games, at New York on Wednesday, home for Cleveland on Friday and home for Indiana on Sunday, the Nets will jump Cleveland for the No. 7 seed as well.
The Cavaliers are stumbling to the finish line of the regular season, and a loss to one of the league's worst teams did them no favors.
And we didn’t take the challenge to keep guys in front of us, keep them out of the paint. And we didn’t take the challenge to keep guys in front of us, keep them out of the paint. There was just too many times over and over again where we didn’t show the fight that we needed to show.
Orlando Magic rookie Franz Wagner on Tuesday was limited to just seven minutes of action in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers after suffering sprained ...
He is averaging 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists on 46.8% shooting from the field in 79 games. He left the game and was eventually ruled out of returning for the second time in a week. Wagner previously suffered a sprained left ankle on Friday in a loss to the Toronto Raptors just 20 seconds into the contest.
