A judge ordered rapper Tory Lanez be remanded into custody after prosecutors said he violated a restraining order obtained by Megan Thee Stallion.

Megan Thee Stallion said in July 2020 that she had been shot in the foot and required surgery to remove the bullet. “Additionally, the judge found sufficient evidence today that he violated the order of protection and had him handcuffed in the courtroom,” Spiro said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said in a pretrial hearing that Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, violated two types of orders filed in his case.

Tuesday marked the rescheduled date for a pre-trial hearing. Recently, Megan Thee Stallion blasted those spreading “false narratives” about the case.

Back in February, Megan Thee Stallion—who recently took to the Oscars stage for an Encanto-celebrating performance—shut down a court hearing-related claim which had started making the rounds on social media at the time. A subsequent Rolling Stone report added more context on Tuesday’s hearing, including the mention of a certain DJ Akademiks tweet. A trial start date is currently scheduled for Sept. 14.

“She was afraid that there had been recent police shootings, and she described her concern about the police possibly shooting the defendant since he had just committed a shooting.” Under further questioning by Ta last December, Stogner said gunshot residue can transfer to someone who’s “in the vicinity” of a gun that’s discharged. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Pete was vague about what happened. “(Megan) observed Mr. Peterson holding a firearm, and then she observed him start to shoot,” Stogner said. Holley went on to suggest that Harris may have had possession of the gun when it fired because investigators found gunshot residue on her hand. “He believed that they were trying to kill her. And that bail is being posted now,” Holley said after the hearing. “What (DJ Akademiks) said is that the DNA was not found on the weapon. The “Say It” rapper had a bondsman with him for the morning hearing and spent about five hours in custody. Holley also referred to a follow-up Feb. 23 tweet from DJ Akademiks that read, “I saw this doc myself.. “What he said is incorrect,” Holley told the court Tuesday, referring to the now-deleted tweet that caused a social media firestorm. Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, has pleaded not guilty in the high profile case dating back to July 2020.

She said that a female friend of hers who had been in the vehicle ran up to her afterward, along with Lanez, and that he "emphatically apologized for what he did" and offered to drive her home. She told the detective that she was "extremely scared and embarrassed," was "scared he was going to get in trouble" and was concerned that the police might shoot him, but was "sincere," "visibly distraught" and "crying" when she subsequently admitted that Lanez had shot her, Stogner testified. Tory Lanez's Messy Tweets About The Megan Thee Stallion ... (BuzzFeed News)

Lanez, who appeared to smirk as he was placed in handcuffs in the courtroom on Tuesday, was immediately taken into custody to be processed on the new bail.

On Tuesday, the judge said prosecutors believe a report on the evidence was given to an outside party in January, in violation of a previous court protective order that prevents discovery from being shared with members of the public, the press, or anyone not involved in the case. Lanez has denied responsibility for the shooting, and he and his attorney have tried to cast doubt on how Megan was injured. After deleting his initial tweet, Akademiks dug in, saying that he had seen a document saying that the analysis was "inconclusive in finding TORY DNA on the gun or magazine," and Megan accused him of "spreading false narratives" about the case in a tweet of her own. Lanez is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on June 9. That's all I ask," as he left the courthouse with his entourage. According to Billboard, Lanez made a surprise appearance at the event, appearing onstage with DaBaby shortly after Megan performed her set. In a statement provided to BuzzFeed News and other outlets after the February hearing, the Los Angeles district attorney's office said it was aware of the issue, adding the statements on social media "do not accurately reflect the proceedings or the evidence in this case." In actuality, Lanez's attorney merely told the court that his team was retaining a DNA expert and hoped to confirm the police analysis, which she described as "favorable" from their standpoint, according to a transcript of the proceedings reviewed by BuzzFeed News. Initially, Megan told officers she cut her feet on broken glass, later revealing she was too scared to tell the truth in the moment that she had been shot. He was released about five hours later and drove off in a Lamborghini, according to online booking records and a Rolling Stone reporter at the scene. Then Lanez, who was not present for the proceedings, jumped in, tweeting, "u can’t buy and tweet your way out of this one ..not today." According to prosecutors, Lanez and Megan, whose full name is Megan Pete, were riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills on July 12, 2020, when they got into an argument, prompting her to ask to be let out of the vehicle.
