If the Suns win on Tuesday night, they will remove all chance of the Lakers even making the play-in tournament. They have leveled up, of course. Way back in LeBron’s first season with the Lakers, they came into Phoenix with their playoff hopes diminishing. Turns out that 2019 playoff-less Lakers team was even better than this year’s. Check the starting lineup on that night: LeBron was surrounded by Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Rajon Rondo and Reggie Bullock, with Josh Hart, JaVale McGee and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope coming off the bench. The Lakers would be too far back with only three games to go, and the season would be over. I’ll bet Bron would love to have that group back right now.

The Phoenix Suns won their 63rd game of the season on Tuesday, a 121-110 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers to set a new franchise record.

Prior to Sunday’s action, the Suns held a 7.5-game lead over the Memphis Grizzlies for the top spot in the NBA, a place the Suns clinched on March 24. The Suns’ rapid rise followed a tumultuous four-year period from 2015-19 in which Phoenix’s highest win total across four seasons was 24. Phoenix’s 63rd win tops a mark of 62 set on two different occasions in the organization’s history.

- Lakers last game: The Lakers fell short of a victory on Sunday against reigning league-MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, losing 129-118 at home. The Suns find themselves one game away from setting a new franchise-record for wins in a season and while they already claimed the 1-seed in the Western Conference, this Suns team could be especially motivated to set a new record in front of their own fans against Los Angeles. LeBron James scored 31 points for the Lakers, but it was not enough to overcome the Suns, who had seven different players score in double-figures, led by Devin Booker with 30 points. Los Angeles trailed by just one point entering the fourth quarter. - LeBron James currently leads the league in scoring (30.3 PPG) and would become the oldest scoring champion in NBA history should he finish the year leading the NBA in points per game. - Chris Paul is currently leading the NBA in assists (10.7 APG). - The Phoenix Suns are one win away from setting a new franchise-record for wins in a season, as they are currently 62-16. - The Los Angeles Lakers currently sit two games back of the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference, with the Spurs owning the season-tiebreaker. Lakers: LeBron James (ankle) - QUESTIONABLE, Anthony Davis (foot) - QUESTIONABLE, Kendrick Nunn (knee) - OUT - F Anthony Davis (Q), 6-10 forward: 23.2 points, 9.8 rebounds - The Suns currently rank fourth in the league in points per game (114.9) and they currently rank third in both offensive and defensive rating on the season. - The Lakers are giving up an average of 114.8 points per game, the fifth most points allowed in the league this season.

Will James, entering the final year of his deal, sign a contract extension to keep him in L.A. beyond his 20th season in the league? The Lakers clung to a 42-39 lead over the Suns midway through the second quarter when San Antonio put the finishing touches on its win. It's the Lakers' longest losing streak of the season, while San Antonio won for the seventh time in its past eight games to guarantee it will be at least the 10-seed in the play-in. Injuries played a factor again Tuesday, with James sitting out for the fourth time in the past five games because of soreness in his left ankle. And it left Vogel no choice but to constantly tinker with the players available to him as he tried out 39 different starting lineups through Tuesday -- second most in the league behind the Brooklyn Nets. The Suns' Devin Booker (32 points on 12-for-22 shooting) and Jae Crowder let their opponent's bench hear it, relishing the chance to bury the Lakers after Anthony Davis suggested last month that Phoenix's 2021 playoff win over L.A. was a fluke.

The Lakers will have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, even though they both carry the questionable tag, but I don’t think they will help the visitors to avoid losing this game." The Lakers have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games. The Suns may have motivation questions given the fact that they are seven games up on the No. 1 seed in the West, but I see their offense gashing a Lakers defense that is 28th in defensive rating since the All-Star break, per NBA.com. The team total is high at 122, but the Suns scored 140 on the hapless Lakers defense last time out and would love to put the final nail in the team's coffin for this season. They have failed to cover the spread in three consecutive games.

The Phoenix Suns took down the Los Angeles Lakers tonight, finally securing their record-breaking 63rd win of the season.

That was, until earlier this week, when the Suns dropped consecutive games to the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder. "Our goal was to win a championship…injuries got in the way of that." And doing it all the time, and not just on occasion.” The Lakers filled in these spots with afterthoughts and underdogs: Avery Bradley, Austin Reaves, Stanley Johnson, Wenyen Gabriel and D.J. Augustin. One of their biggest offseason signings, Kendrick Nunn, never played. It is made all the more bitter by the assembly of star power and experience in their locker room. Rajon Rondo and DeAndre Jordan didn’t finish the season on the roster. The Lakers made their big move in July, trading for Westbrook while leaving other possible deals on the table. But the Lakers never won as consistently as they envisioned, in part because injuries immediately affected them. Vogel called a timeout, and his team trudged back to the bench with their heads cast down – already beaten in spirit with more than 15 minutes left. James sat on the bench wearing a white “LAKE SHOW” T-shirt with caricatures of franchise greats: Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant among them. After scoring 47 points in last season’s Game 6 series-clincher, he poured in 32 points to set fire to any remaining hope the Lakers had. When the Lakers crashed this season, they crashed hard – and their final meaningful game was no exception. It was the Lakers’ seventh consecutive loss, all of them coming in games with increasingly severe stakes.

Despite clinching the NBA's best record two weeks ago, the Phoenix Suns had a few things to play for on Tuesday.

And for him to really see it all and for him to be here with us is pretty dope.” It was as if Booker knew he was going to sit for the rest of the evening and wanted to get every last bit of meat left on the bone. His limited mobility hurt the Lakers defensively and on the glass but you can’t blame the guy for wanting to be out there when everything is decided. After a Booker layin with nine seconds remaining in the third quarter and a quick Lakers inbound pass, he sprinted back on defense behind the Lakers’ Russell Westbrook to poke the ball loose. Phoenix played on Tuesday night in front of their home crowd with slightly more oomph to its celebrations, along with the usual trash talk they’ll engage in with anyone. And Jay. Jay been here for 34 years, man, and one of the most selfless people you’ll ever meet in your life. And even more developed this season when Anthony Davis insinuated less than two hours before the Lakers’ 29-point loss to the Suns on March 13 that the only reason Phoenix won that series is because he got hurt. “When we came here, the goal was obviously to build a program and step by step do some things,” head coach Monty Williams said. The Clippers have covered the spread in three of their last four games but are only 4-6 ATS in their last 10 games. Peter Tran writes: "The Suns are coming into this game with plenty of momentum after last night’s easy win over the Lakers, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they decided to rest a few starters for this one. Gannett may earn revenue from Tipico for audience referrals to betting services. The Clippers are a credible threat tonight with a star available, but I'm going to side with the Suns. They rested their stars two nights ago, ran through the Lakers and will do the same to the Clippers. Deandre Ayton has a clear advantage on the inside and if Chris Paul can stay on the floor, it's a quick and easy game." Donnavan Smoot writes: "The Suns are the best team in the league and that's not even a debate. That will make the Clippers competitive and the teams have played close low-scoring games this season. Jess Root writes: "The Suns have failed to cover the spread in four straight games after having covered it in five of six, so they are an even 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games. George needs some run time to get in basketball shape after a three-month injury layoff. The Clippers have started to heat up again and they should be well-rested as they haven’t played since their big win over the Pelicans on Sunday. This should be a close one, but this looks like the perfect spot for the Clippers to ambush the Suns who have little to play for in these last few regular season games."

Check out the some social media posts after Phoenix's win over the Lakers, which marked the second straight year the Suns have essentially ended Los Angeles' season (Phoenix defeated the Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs last year). A postgame gesture to a Phoenix Suns legend further endeared Devin Booker to fans, and further helped his own legend in Phoenix.

“We talk about him as a special player but we don’t want to forget about a special person that Devin Booker is: What he does for the community, what he does for the unfortunate, for children, and for him to do that last night for me, to give me his jersey with the record-breaking win, it’s just a moment I’ll never forget, no question about it.” McCoy has called Suns games for 50 years. Yes, 50 years.

Dangerous Los Angeles Clippers potential first-round opponent for ... (AZCentral.com)

With Paul George back and Norman Powell on his way to returning, the Clippers could be a dangerous playoff foe the Suns may face in first round.

The winner will play second-seeded Memphis in the first round. Leonard will likely miss the rest of this season. “We’re a confident group and we feel we can matchup and we can play and beat anybody,” George said Sunday. "It was just tough for them going through that stretch without me in the lineup. They are 2-1 versus the Clippers this season heading into Wednesday’s matchup at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, but George didn't play in those three games. The Clippers (39-40) have survived without their 1-2 punch and will be the eighth seed in the April 12-15 play-in tournament. He knows how to play at a high level. Follow him on Twitter at @DuaneRankin. “We went backwards to get to this point we’re at now. Now my mentality is just trying to get a rhythm. Still trying to figure out who is better with that second unit, Reggie (Jackson) or PG. So, there are some things we’ve still got to figure out. "Just the intensity, the mindset, and just mentality going into games, to start the games off right. "I think they’re going to be very surprised.

Game Preview: Franchise-best Suns visit LA-best Clippers (Bright Side of the Sun)

The Suns are fresh off a satisfying elimination of the Lakers, while the Clippers are bound for the play-in tournament.

Regardless, I wouldn’t sweat a Suns loss one bit, absent some kind of troubling development I don’t want to imagine. Despite having locked up the #1 seed, the Suns’ recent losses to Oklahoma City and Memphis had some fans a touch worried. With only three games to go, and no position to play for, the Suns have to have their sights set on being fully prepared to replicate that success in the postseason.
