Despite being periodically uneventful, the Skywalker Saga is a thorough and fun examination of all three Star Wars movie trilogies. Studs can also be spent to enhance skills and unlock new abilities for the different character classes. The bulk of side content, which is a big part of this experience, mostly comes up short, despite delivering fantastic rewards, like more playable characters. You can exchange well-earned studs for clues that lead to character locations and unlocking requirements. While nailing the little moments, the immense scale of the project appears to have been too wide for TT Games to harness, as some of the content is uncharacteristically dull or uneven. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a massive game, consisting of roughly 400 playable characters, nine movies to journey through, and more puns, jokes, and sight gags than even Jar Jar Binks can handle.

It always feels divided between being an accurate retelling of the Star Wars series and an ambitious galactic sandbox where players can go anywhere as anyone. But like the protagonists of each Star Wars trilogy, The Skywalker Saga has an identity crisis. The Skywalker Saga features many planets and locales that are truly fun to explore. Despite that, all nine films are telling linear stories, and the game is constantly trying to shuffle the player to the next big thing. Developer TT Games appears to have recognized that because Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most ambitious Lego game in years. This was also unfulfilling as The Skywalker Saga has to rush through each story to include all nine films. These open-ended hubs are all large and full of exciting challenges, Easter eggs, and even full-blown side-quests to discover, and are by far the best part of the game. I chose to play the game in release order, from A New Hope to The Rise of Skywalker. The introductory level of A New Hope does an amazing job at highlighting how much has improved compared to past Lego games. I was disappointed to find that the game really doesn’t do that. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new features here. This makes it a perfectly enjoyable Lego title for players who may have fallen out of love with the series and an exciting teaser of where this franchise can still go.

It’s unlikely The Skywalker Saga will come to Xbox Game Pass in the near future, though it’s possible it will arrive sometime later on. File sizes for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will fluctuate depending on the platform, but in general, you’ll need to set aside around 40 GB to play. Other territories, such as the UK will be able to start playing at midnight local time, though the Nintendo Switch version might be available at 9 p.m. on the night of April 4.

So, understand that what I’m about to say comes from a place of pure love and care: Star Wars is really silly and dumb.

Between dozens of Starships, Capital Ships, and Micro Ships, and well over 300 playable characters to choose from, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga offers players plenty of options. There's no wrong way to play LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but here are a few of the best ways to work your way through the trilogies.

I’d also argue that those trying to really learn these games may find that The Phantom Menace is the best starting point as it’s structured in a way that really lets you experience a lot of the new ideas found in this collection in a pretty logical way. Whether that’s an argument for playing the games in the “Movie Release” order or saving the best for last is again up to you. Honestly, it’s not that crazy of a way to play through these games if you’re mostly interested in getting to The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker as soon as possible. Granted, the LEGO version of The Rise of Skywalker fares slightly better than the movie, but it’s still not a highlight. The biggest advantage to playing through The Skywalker Saga in this order is that it allows you to really put the prequel trilogy in a different context. Jumping straight from the Prequel Trilogy to the Sequel Trilogy is kind of jarring no matter how you do it. Indeed, if the first Star Wars films were released later than they were (and in a different context), Hollywood logic may have dictated that the original films be followed by sequels and that a series of prequel films be released years down the line. As such, this order is still a great way to experience the LEGO Star Wars games that also lets you play through some of the Skywalker Saga‘s best gameplay moments first. That being the case, I can easily see some longtime LEGO Star Wars fans justifying this strange order simply to get to those entirely new experiences as quickly as possible. The fact that it also allows them to experience that saga in the correct chronological narrative order happens to be an added benefit. The Skywalker Saga lets you choose to start your session in The Phantom Menace, A New Hope, or The Force Awakens (the first entries in each sub-trilogy). Once you beat one of those games, you’re able to move on to the next entry in that trilogy. While the LEGO Star Wars games have always been fun, The Skywalker Saga expands the scope of those titles in a way that makes them far more substantial without compromising the simpler pleasures they’ve traditionally offered.

Speedy Sprint will allow you to run faster. Your priority should be Speedy Sprint, Collectible Detector, and Business Opportunist. You can start upgrading Attract Studs from Core Upgrades and Expert Climber from Scavenger once those are done. There are a few upgrades that you should at least unlock the first tier of. Even though only one Kyber Brick Comet is available in each sector, you can still travel to destroy Stud Comets. Stud Comets will grant players more than 20,000 Studs per comet, and are great for farming the game’s main currency in a short amount of time.
