Why can't the Utah Jazz hold onto a lead? (The J-Notes)

The Utah Jazz dropped a close game to the Golden State Warriors by a final score of 111-107 last night. They led by 16 at one point in the 4th quarter.

This team does not look the part of NBA title contender. As a whole, the team shot 15/46 from the three-point line in this one. A number of miscues cost them down the stretch, including an egregiously bad Rudy Gobert pass that sailed out of bounds in the final moments. They shot 3/12 from downtown in the fourth quarter. Instead, they let the game slip away and dropped the contest by a final score of 111-107. They held a 16-point lead over the Golden State Warriors in the fourth quarter.

The Utah Jazz is currently in a dire situation, the team seems unable to hold on to leads going into the playoffs. They have lost 6 of their last 7 games ...

This is a terrible stat for a roster that has been together as long as this team has. Utah led by as many as 16 points with 7 minutes left to go in the game and could have simply seen it out. They have lost 6 of their last 7 games and seem to be unraveling at the most crucial part of the season when they need momentum.

I told it to the coaching staff, and Steph said it to a couple of the guys." Coming into the matchup with the Jazz, they were on a four-game losing streak. Why Warriors' win over Jazz was 'biggest game of the year' (The Mercury News)

SAN FRANCISCO — Coach Steve Kerr didn't have to pin a sign on the Warriors' bulletin board in their locker room or repeatedly circle Saturday's game in red ...

“We just know we need to go out there and win games,” Poole said. “You love to play in an environment like that, Chase is amazing when everybody’s on their feet,” he said. We were against a really good team, all games are important at this point,” Poole said. A loss would have jeopardized the Warriors’ chances of having home-court advantage in the playoffs. Luckily, Golden State doesn’t need to worry about that just yet after Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole led the team to overcome a 16-point deficit in the game’s final eight minutes for the win in a performance that was nothing short of amazing. “I know they were talking amongst themselves.”

Klay's explosion and Gobert's meltdown help Warriors beat Jazz 111 ... (Golden State of Mind)

Steve Kerr didn't tell the Golden State Warriors that this was the most important game of the year so far, but in the 4th quarter, Klay Thompson started ...

In the final 7:54 of the game, he was the only Jazz player to make a basket. Klay called the defense “Not very smart,” and added “I’m not surprised but I’m grateful.” Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II came in and righted the ship, and Thompson made up for some early misses by closing the quarter with a dunk and a three, and the Warriors trailed 30-23 after one. In fact, the team as a whole only turned the ball over once in the entire second half, and not at all in the fourth. It didn’t look like as Utah started draining threes again to start the 4th, and the mostly-bench unit that brought them back quickly ran out of gas. The downside was that Poole also had three turnovers, including a howler with ten seconds left that let Utah close the half on an easy layup. Klay Thompson finished with 36 points and eight three-pointers, five in the final 13 minutes of the game, all of which he played. In the second half he was nearly perfect, scoring with of those points, playing masterful defense and not committing a single turnover. It was a combination of stifling Warriors defense and some stunning Jazz miscues that led to the defeat. The Warriors wouldn’t make a field goal the rest of the way, but they did make all six of their foul shots down the stretch. Tuesday, Mitchell was inbounding the ball with ten seconds left and called a timeout the Jazz didn’t have, Chris Webber-style. That put the Dubs ahead for good, and they held on to win, 113-107, and clinch a playoff spot.

Jazz news: Donovan Mitchell sounds off on Utah choking games ... (ClutchPoints)

Donovan Mitchell was vocal on yet another Jazz letdown after blowing a 16-point lead late against the Warriors.

The Jazz veteran tied Donovan Mitchell for a team-high 26 points. There’s more than enough reason to believe that this has just been a temporary bump in the road, one they can hopefully get past come playoff time. The Jazz went scoreless for over five minutes and didn’t make another field goal until the 1:22 mark when Mike Conley made a driving layup. And I think we have a group of guys who want to do that. Donovan Mitchell was vocal on yet another Jazz letdown after the game. And yet Utah somehow managed to get outscored by 20 points the rest of the way to fall, 111-107.

On Tuesday, they built up a lead as large as 25 points against the Clippers and watched it all crumble, similar to how they did in Game 6 of the 2021 conference semis. They led Golden State on Saturday night at one time by 21 points and even held a 103-87 lead held with 7:54 left in the game.

Watch Poole, Thompson combine for 67, rally Warriors from 16 ... (NBC Sports)

Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole combined for 67 points and the Warriors rallied from 16 down in the fourth quarter to beat the Jazz.

Then Thompson heated up in the fourth quarter, whipping the Chase Center crowd into a frenzy with each 3-pointer he made. Poole scored 19 in the first half for the Warriors, including 14 in the second quarter. The Jazz had a chance to take the lead with 20 seconds remaining but Rudy Gobert threw a pass out of bounds after clearing a rebound. I don’t know what else to say.” “It’s not a good feeling in the locker room right now because guys want to win.” Jordan Poole added 31 and Andrew Wiggins had 17 as the Warriors also snapped a four-game losing streak.

Mavs Playoffs Primer: Jazz or Nuggets Better Matchup? (Sports Illustrated)

With just three games remaining in the regular season, it appears that the Dallas Mavericks' likely first-round opponent will will either be the Utah Jazz ...

If made to pick, avoiding the team with the MVP candidate in the first round would likely be the preferred outcome since much of a playoff series is dictated by the superstars. I know many people are in a “I won’t believe the Mavs are this good until they win a series” mindset, and that’s understandable. And if the odds are in the favor of Dallas? Well, count me in. The Mavs guards, led by Luka Doncic, should feast in a series with Denver, and they have enough long, athletic defenders to make Jokic uncomfortable at the very least. Dalton Trigg: I flip-flop on this a lot, because on one hand, the Jazz seem to be imploding as a team. Those two have had chemistry issues in the past, and with reports of the Mavs having interest in a potential Gobert trade this summer, it’s safe to say a lot of people are thinking this is the end of the line for the Jazz.
