What the latest John Collins update means for the Atlanta Hawks (Soaring Down South)

The Atlanta Hawks could have to go on a deep playoff run to get John Collins back right after injuries have knocked him out for 18 of the last 22 games.

Be it from his highlight-reel dunks or just dapping up his teammates, no one else on the team brings quite what Collins does. We saw the Hawks get Cam Reddish back during last year’s Eastern Conference Finals and the impact that had. At the time, he was “just” dealing with what was being called a foot sprain. As the saying usually goes, “no news is good news”. In many ways, that is still true in this case with Collins’ finger still splinted and him having yet to begin running or jumping. There is also the risk that the injuries will not heal properly if he returns too soon. They are not there yet, but the lack of news is noteworthy.

Steve Nash spoke to reporters on Saturday evening after the Brooklyn Nets lost to the Atlanta Hawks.

* CAN KRISTAPS STILL BE AN ALL-STAR? Ben Stinar and Haley Jordan sat down to talk about Washington Wizards star Kristaps Porzingis in a recent episode of Stinar For 3. Especially on a team that is contending for an NBA Championship. He has played for the Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics and Knicks over his 11-year NBA career. * KEMBA WALKER CAN STILL HELP A CONTENDING TEAM: Kemba Walker's tenure with the New York Knicks appears to have ended.

NBA Watch Live: Brooklyn Nets at Atlanta Hawks, 7:30 PM EST (NetsDaily)

They're all important, but Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks is pretty, pretty, pretty big one. Both the Nets and Hawks are tied at 40-37, ...

Conversely, the Nets have turned it over 14.5 percent of the time, fifth highest in the NBA post All Star. To Brooklyn’s credit, they’ve been forcing their fair share of turnovers (fifth best opposing turnover rate since the break). Make no mistake, we are in playoff level situations from here on out, and the Nets have to have to have to make the most out of every possession possible. Being able to rest up at home and avoid travel in the last week of the season could come in handy for this team. The Hawks have coughed it up only 11 percent of the time post All Star break, lowest mark in the league.

It's good to get into a rhythm this time of the season" We're playing with a great pace. "We're playing some really good basketball right now. When a reporter asked Nate McMillan if this is the team he had expected to see all season, the Hawks head coach took a careful approach. However, the two Hawks with the least points were both starters - Kevin Huerter and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot both scored 5 points each. Somehow, the game exceeded the hype.

The Atlanta Hawks have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the Brooklyn Nets and are hoping to record their first win since Jan. 1 of last year. Meanwhile, the Nets fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result, falling 120-119. Atlanta made easy work of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday and carried off a 131-107 victory. The Atlanta Hawks are giving their home crowd exactly what it was hoping to see. Power forward Kevin Durant has done his best for Brooklyn, currently boasting 44 points (51% of their total) in addition to six boards. A double-double would be KD's third in a row.

Bogdan Bogdanovic made a big impact in the Atlanta Hawks win (Soaring Down South)

The stat sheet won't fully show how good of a game Bogdan Bogdanovic had in the Atlanta Hawks 122-115 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

These last two games broke up what had been a solid scoring stretch for Bogdanovic where he averaged 24.2 points on 50.5 percent shooting and 47.9 percent from deep. His lackluster counting stats only tell part of the story, though, as Bogdanovic finished as a game-high plus-15. He committed a turnover on a pass the Nets center Andre Drummond jumped with 10 minutes to go that put the Hawks down 34-29 following the big man’s dunk. The Hawks bench ace finished with just eight points, two assists, and one rebound. He did get to the line for a couple of free throws but finished with two personal fouls and one turnover. The biggest play of Bogdan Bogdanovic’s night in the Atlanta Hawks (41-37) 122-115 win over the Brooklyn Nets didn’t even count.

Kevin Durant drops career-high 55 points, but Nets lose crucial ... (CBSSports.com)

Young finished with 36 points to lead the Hawks to their fifth straight win, which put them ahead of the Nets in the standings.

Durant was in such a zone that at one point he casually walked into a one-leg runner from the top of the key. He scored 11 points in the final 91 seconds, including a nasty pull-up 3-pointer over Patty Mills with 22.7 seconds remaining that essentially ended the game. He poured in a career-high 55 points, going 19 of 28 from the field and 8 of 10 from 3-point land, and pulled down seven rebounds.
