Philadelphia 76ers: Most favorable first-round matchups in 2022 ... (ClutchPoints)

The 2022 NBA Playoffs are approaching, and here's who the 76ers should want to matchup up with in the first round.

Like the Bulls, the Cavs are an opponent the Sixers had their way against in the regular season. Containing the duo of DeRozan and Zach LaVine would not be easy, but this is a series that would be very winnable for the Sixers. But if they can stay afloat for these final games, Cleveland is by far the most optimal opponent come the postseason. Head coach Nick Nurse is also one of the best in the business when it comes to the chess match of playoff basketball. Between their abundance of size and length and championship experience, the Raptors know what needs to be done to win in the playoffs. Toronto poses some threats, but not enough for the Sixers to look to avoid them at all costs. Injuries have taken a massive toll on their roster, with Lonzo Ball still out, making the Bulls an optimal first-round opponent. They also don’t have an answer for Embiid, which could prove to be the deciding factor. The defeat dropped the Sixers to 46-30, which is good for fourth place in a tight Eastern Conference. But given the nature of the standings, things can still change. Everyone still remembers how the matchup between the Sixers and Nets unfolded not too long ago. Even with so few games left, there are still multiple variations of how the East standings will play out.

76ers, NBA world discovering Cade Cunningham (PistonPowered)

It has been obvious for a while that Cade Cunningham is a special player for the Detroit Pistons. However, the rest of the NBA world just getting it.

Cade Cunningham can’t win what should be a close vote for Rookie of the Year without outside reporters noticing him. And maybe, just maybe, he will get a foul call (probably not, but one can hope)? If you are having a great season and no one covers it, did you really have one? Yes, Cunningham was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, so he is not exactly a sleeper. The 76ers found out by having him drop 27 points on them in a 102-94 Detroit victory. The Philadelphia 76ers learned the hard way.

Doc Rivers Doesn't Put Much Blame on Sixers' Bench for Struggles ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Philadelphia 76ers looked to avoid falling into a three-game losing streak on Thursday night. After dropping games against the NBA's top team, ...

However, the rest of the unit has had some bad games overall, and Thursday night was one of them. When the Sixers wrapped up the first quarter of Thursday's game with a five-point lead, not a single player from the second unit contributed to their 25 points. However, that's not really the case.Lately, Rivers has urged Harden to take more shots and essentially become more of a selfish scorer because he's the best shot-creating guard on the team. Although Shake Milton finally ended the drought in the third quarter by knocking down a three, his lone shot at the beginning of the second half would be the only production to come from the bench before the fourth quarter.Georges Niang and DeAndre Jordan combined for five points in the fourth quarter. Versus Milwaukee, the Sixers possessed an eight-point lead going into the final quarter and lost the game by two points in the end.In Detroit, the Sixers led by six points going into the fourth quarter before shooting 37-percent from the field, turning the ball over five times, and eventually allowing the Pistons to pull off the upset victory with a 102-94 win.Perhaps the most significant issue of all is the Sixers' bench unit. With three more shots taken, the bench unit wrapped up the first half with zero of Philadelphia's 54 points. After dropping games against the NBA's top team, the Phoenix Suns, and the defending champions, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Sixers had a much easier opponent on schedule as they faced the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. As a top team in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers should've been able to handle the East's second-to-worst team record-wise with ease.

76ers Lose to Lowly Pistons, Drop Third Straight (Philly Sports Network)

The Philadelphia 76ers faced off against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

With the season coming to a close, Pistons’ rookie point guard Cade Cunningham is making a run at the Rookie of the Year trophy. This is the 76ers’ third loss in a row and probably will end up being the worst loss of the season. With the playoffs around the corner, they can’t afford to have bad offensive nights like the performance against the Pistons. One night like this in the playoffs can swing the tide of a series. It is the coaching staff’s job to try to get these guys to play with pace and to move the ball. Also, it seems like it is hard to get all of the main scorers for the Sixers to play well in one outing. Cade Cunningham knifed his way through the Sixers’ defense all night and helped lead the Pistons to a 102-94 victory over the 76ers.

In fact, the Philly bench took only 12 shots combined, hitting three of them. The guard has been on the team since its February trade with the Nets, which sent Ben Simmons to Brooklyn in return. In the game.

76ers Players Are Turning On Coach Doc Rivers - Game 7 (Game7)

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired James Harden at the NBA Trade Deadline with one clear objective in mind: competing for a championship.

“The Sixers are in L. A. last week, I’m out and about getting dinner […] and I run into somebody who’s close to the team. This dynamic is one to keep an eye on going forward. […] I’m like, ‘Sorry but I can’t pick you guys to go to the Finals this year.’ His response kind of raised my eyebrows: ‘Neither would I.’ Oh, okay. Worse yet, head coach Doc Rivers and Harden seem to be on completely different pages. So I’m like, I’m ignoring this. With that, their claim as a legitimate title contender appears to be fading.

Philadelphia 76ers: Can James Harden handle Doc Rivers' criticism? (The Sixer Sense)

The Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers is taking a big risk by calling out the play of James Harden publically after a loss to the Detriot Pistons.

In that respect, Rivers is spot on in the fact that the bench isn’t getting involved. When Harden has been in with the second unit as of late, he has resorted back to his Houston Rockets days where he would dominate the ball. The Philadelphia 76ers are in a bad place at the end of this regular season.

Philadelphia 76ers: Doc Rivers' tenure just hit a crossroads (Section 215)

As the losses pile up and the rumblings of an unhappy team continue to mount, Doc Rivers' time with the Philadelphia 76ers has officially hit a crossroads.

They traded away their three-time All-Star point guard for a three-time scoring champ, surrendered the vast majority of their tradeable assets, and committed to the framework of a roster with only so many moveable parts moving forward. Well, for starters, Rivers could take accountability for his part in the team’s recent struggles and commit to doing the best he can to get the team back to their winning ways. Plenty of teams have gone through rough patches on their way to the playoffs; as long as the three losses in a row don’t come after going up 3-1 in the NBA Finals, teams get to live to fight another day.

Philadelphia 76ers: Bringing Tyrese Maxey off the bench is pointless (Section 215)

Of the 17 players on the Sixers' roster, only three are plus defenders according to FiveThirtyEight, and, in an unlucky twist of fate for a team with a pair of ...

But bringing Maxey off the bench, especially if he’s still playing 36-ish minutes per game, is a fairly pointless proposition, as the Sixers’ current starting five is among the best lineups in the NBA, and it wouldn’t fix the underlying issue, which is how many times the second-year star is given a chance to run the show with the ball in his hands. Unless one wants to completely split up the minutes of Maxey and Harden, which would give the former a little over 10 minutes of action over an entire game, the two players are going to have to play together for at least part of the game, if not most of the game if both are going to play 35-plus minutes. That’s right, of all the lineups across the association that have played at least 250 minutes – which is 26, if you care – the Sixers’ current starting five currently ranks second in Net Rating behind only Boston’s lineup of Al Horford, Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Robert Williams III – a lineup that is unavailable for the foreseeable future due to Timelord’s torn meniscus. Plenty of teams have a sixth man who serves as an energizer bunny coming off the bench and excel with such a strategy; why can’t Maxey fill that role for the Sixers? In those minutes, Maxey can run more freely, play to his strengths, and put up quick points like only he can do. If his would-be defender blitzes Joel Embiid and/or James Harden in the paint, Maxey can make them pay with his deceptively lethal outside shot.

He’s supposed to be there to take pressure off of Joel Embiid, and when you look at James Harden and you look at all the guys that he has had, all the superstars that he has played with, he has had more features than DJ Khaled when he had Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Migos, Drake, and everyone across the board. When you look at who James Harden has played with, it didn’t work out with Dwight Howard, it didn’t work out with Chris Paul, it didn’t work out with Russell Westbrook. You went to the Brooklyn Nets, it didn’t work out with KD (Kevin Durant) and Kyrie (Irving), now you’re with Embiid. At some point, you have to be able to hold up your end of the bargain and not just depend on the other that you’re pairing up with. Over his last 11 games, Harden is averaging 21.8 points, but he is shooting only 36.6% from the floor and 30.4% from deep.

NBA betting: Hornets vs. 76ers predictions, best bets and odds (pennlive.com)

A betting preview of the Hornets vs. 76ers game on Saturday, April 2.

A 9-3 SU and 8-4 ATS run in January gave way to a 4-13 SU and 5-10-2 ATS slump in February and early March. Charlotte is back on the upswing now however with an 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS record over their last 10 games. This is a prime spot for a rebound performance and is one the 76ers should take advantage of with an outright win, even if the final score ends up being close. With that said, the 76ers are the better team and are coming off of a terrible loss. The Philadelphia 76ers are 16-1 straight up in their last 17 games against the Charlotte Hornets but are 0-3-1 against the spread in their last for games against them. Recent losses to the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks are excusable given the caliber of the opponents. The 76ers can snap this ATS slump with a win and cover in this Hornets vs.

76ers News: Doc Rivers Blatantly Calls Out James Harden After ... (Sportscasting)

Read about how 76ers head coach Doc Rivers took a shot at James Harden after Philadelphia's embarrassing loss to the Pistons.

Against the Pistons on Thursday night, Harden missed 10 of his last 11 shots and turned the ball over multiple times while hunting for fouls in the lane. That lazy attitude came back to bite them in the end, and Philly is now 2.5 games out of the No. 1 seed with only six games remaining on the schedule. Philly won the first four games of his tenure and scored 123 or more points in all of them. Joel Embiid did his best with 37 points and 15 rebounds, but Harden shot just 4-of-15 from the field and the bench pitched in only eight total points. After building up a comfortable lead in the third quarter, the Sixers were outscored 29-15 in the fourth to eventually lose, 102-94. After a few weeks of dominant wins and premature championship parade plans, the Sixers have come crashing back down to earth with a few inexplicable losses.
