OKC Thunder quotes: Kevin Durant believes the Thunder have to ... (OKC Thunder Wire)

Kevin Durant told The Ringer that he believes the Oklahoma City Thunder must retire his jersey for the sake of basketball.

Even if there are still hard feelings between the fan base and Durant. The only caveat I’ve seen Thunder fans make regarding retiring Durant’s jersey is that it has to happen after Russell Westbrook gets his number zero retired. Considering Durant is a top-15 player of all time and spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Thunder franchise, it goes without saying that the team will likely retire his jersey in the future. In The Ringer’s latest article, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant disclosed his thoughts on the conversation about whether the Oklahoma City Thunder should retire his jersey No. 35 despite an ugly 2016 divorce.

The Brooklyn Nets are going to be good for years to come. Earlier this month, Kyrie Irving made e verbal commitment to stay on board, all but ensuring his.

This season, even amid all the craziness and drama, the Nets still have a chance to succeed. It’s a good place to be in. “It’s good to know that I don’t have to look over my shoulder and worry about the next season or the next two years.

Even though Kevin Durant wasn't with the Golden State Warriors as long as he was with the Thunder, he was still tremendously accomplished. Kevin Durant: It's Bad for Basketball If Thunder, Warriors Don't Retire ... (Bleacher Report)

Every basketball player dreams of someday seeing their number in the rafters. Kevin Durant thinks he's earned it. Twice. Durant “Every one of these...

Durant was the best player on the best team in NBA history; that alone is enough to merit his jersey hanging forever. Durant's run in Golden State was a three-year sojourn that made people feel like the team was ruining basketball. Fans can be bitter about the circumstances surrounding his departure, but Durant (and Russell Westbrook) built the fanbase with their bare hands. It wouldn't even be good for the game of basketball if they didn't. The same with Golden State. I'm still doing what I'm doing here in Brooklyn, but if I continue on what I'm doing four or five years, then I'll feel the same way about this program. If you don't want me to be a part of your program when I'm done playing, then that's personal. I can imagine me when I'm done, and I don't think any one of these franchises would be like, 'No, K, what you did here is not a part of our history.' I'm going to be a Hall of Famer when I'm done, one of the greatest to ever play.

Kevin Durant says treatment from Warriors beat writers was 'unfair' (Nets Wire)

Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant recently explained how his coverage with the Golden State Warriors was 'unfair.'

For the Nets, they went from a feel-good story with D’Angelo Russell as the star to being at the forefront of title contention discussions. Durant joined the Warriors with the intention of playing elite basketball on a team that deployed a largely unique style. Despite all of the results Durant and the Warriors achieved together, they were far from being free of controversy.

Kevin Durant Is Learning to Let Go (The Ringer)

Whether it's Kyrie Irving's vaccination status, the James Harden trade, or the other James Harden trade, Durant's Nets tenure has been full of disruptions.

“It’s good to know that I don’t have to look over my shoulder and worry about the next season or the next two years. “When I play basketball, it’s not just for winning championships or beating LeBron or [being] the best,” he says. That was the toughest part about being a quote-unquote ‘leader.’ The amount of control that you don’t have is something that you have to get used to.” It’s the final hours of Irving’s 30th birthday and a team-chartered flight is waiting nearby to whisk the team to Miami, where the Nets have a day off to celebrate. I was just … once I seen the lights and the crowd and the ball was tipped, I was just amped.” And it wasn’t me not believing in the vaccine and me not believing in science or anything like that, but we just disagreed on my stance and my beliefs at that point.” “I think that’ll hurt the relationship between media and players,” he says. I just felt like I wanted to be a part of the group. “It’s just a matter of me appreciating what they bring to the earth and wanting to learn from them as well.” “I want people to see the guy that I see,” Gonzalez says. “Before, I used to worry about expectations,” he says, “but now, I’m solidified and confident in what I bring.” “Before, I used to worry about expectations, but now, I’m solidified and confident in what I bring,” he says.

James Harden assured Kevin Durant he would re-sign with Nets ... (CBSSports.com)

A few months later, Harden said he wanted to be patient with his decision, then a few months after that he basically forced a trade.

It worked out for the best for both sides, really, with the Sixers getting the Simmons mess off their plate, so who really cares what Harden told Durant in Greece. That was then. And frankly, I think it's better for the Nets. I would not want to give Harden a max extension at this point in his career, and Simmons fits pretty perfectly next to Durant and Irving while filling a defensive hole Harden only made bigger. In fact, he looked almost incapable of doing many of the things we'd grown accustomed to him doing on the court. Hours before the 2022 trade deadline, Harden was dealt to the 76ers in exchange for a packaged headlined by Ben Simmons. Harden came back in Game 5 and played the rest of the series like he had a spike stuck in his leg, but he wasn't close to right and Brooklyn was eliminated. In the 2021 playoffs, Harden ripped his hamstring 43 seconds into Game 1 of the conference semifinals against the Milwaukee Bucks. Then Irving went down with a sprained ankle in Game 4 and missed the remainder of the series.

The season hasn't exactly gone according to plan for the Brooklyn Nets. But Kevin Durant isn't bothered one bit.

While his greatness on the court evokes expectations and criticism from all around, he’s tuning all that out to enjoy the game that he loves in its purest form. But at the end of the day, Kevin Durant just wants to play basketball. “Before, I used to worry about expectations, but now, I’m solidified and confident in what I bring,” the Nets star says.

Steve Nash calls Khris Middleton's foul on Bruce Brown 'dangerous ... (CBSSports.com)

After the Bucks' overtime win in Brooklyn, the Nets addressed Middleton's flagrant-2 and Wesley Matthews' foul on Durant in overtime.

"I'll leave it to people who are observing the game, but it was just recklessness," Irving said. I thought it was supposed to be a flagrant, but technically I didn't make the correct play to get a flagrant. "I think they were a little reckless at times, just on ... a few of their fouls." "Right? But I think technically, like, I have to be in the air and if come down on his foot, then that's the flagrant. Asked if it was a basketball play, Brown said, "It's a hard foul. He said that he feels "fine" and "just bruised a bone in my wrist."

He won an MVP in 2014 and even led the Thunder to the Finals in 2012. While he was only with the franchise for three seasons, he did win two titles as their best player and averaged 25.8 points over his tenure. Regarding the Nets, it's far too early to say. In an interview with Logan Murdock of The Ringer, he explained why. In 9 seasons with the team, he averaged 27.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 48% shooting. “OKC has to retire my jersey,” said Durant. “It wouldn’t even be good for the game of basketball if they didn’t.
