Nikola Vucevic scored 27 points for Chicago, which is trying to stay in the top six in the Eastern Conference and avoid the play-in round of the postseason. The 23-year-old star secured his first triple-double in almost two months and 10th of the season with an offensive rebound for a layup that gave him 32 points and put Dallas up 101-65 with 6:58 left in the third quarter. The Clippers took their first lead of the game, 110-109, on a jumper by Isaiah Hartenstein. Antetokounmpo added 14 rebounds, six assists and three blocks for the defending NBA champion Bucks. The last block was the most important as he swatted away Embiid’s layup attempt with 1.6 seconds left. Philadelphia dropped 1 1/2 games behind the Heat. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 40 points and had a game-deciding block of Joel Embiid in the final seconds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 118-116 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night in a matchup of two of the Eastern Conference’s top teams.

Should that happen, Embiid will have a golden opportunity to use his voice to point the franchise in the direction he feels it should go. None of those things mean that this is the right forum or right time for Embiid to air those grievances as the leader of the franchise. No. Did the Sixers need a better plan against Giannis and the Bucks during the time where he was on the bench? Neither Jrue Holiday or Khris Middleton were anything spectacular in this game, and with Embiid playing most of the third quarter, there was a window where they could have blown this game open to make it much harder for Giannis' run to be impactful. Instead of showing Giannis a crowd, the Sixers' supporting cast left the assignment to Millsap and Millsap alone, meaning that if the far superior athlete was able to break through the first level, it was basically guaranteed points at the rim for Milwaukee. Giannis checked out with the Bucks down 10 midway through the third, and with Embiid and Harden both on the floor, the Sixers' lead was trimmed to nine before Milwaukee's star came back. The Sixers have stressed to Harden that they don't need the latter out of him, and a half-hour meeting between Harden and Doc Rivers on Tuesday reiterated the expectations they have for him. Milwaukee's MVP responded with 15 consecutive points between the end of the third and start of the fourth, pushing the Bucks to within two points of Philadelphia to set up the endgame. For much of the evening, the Bucks sat in drop coverage and doubled Embiid off-ball once he set the screen in pick-and-rolls. Over half of Harden's makes came inside the arc on Tuesday night, and getting him to attack with anything other than a stepback jumper has been a struggle at times for this group. It's fair to question whether Harden is the same player without the ability to consistently get to and finish at the rim. The Sixers got an A-level performance from James Harden and battled the Milwaukee Bucks to the very end, but they were unable to overcome a dominant effort from Giannis Antetokounmpo on Tuesday night.

Sixers cite key area of improvement after loss vs. Bucks (ClutchPoints)

The Philadelphia 76ers were back on their home floor Tuesday night for a high-profile matchup with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Their comfort level down the stretch in a playoff-like atmosphere is a testament to how ready they are for the postseason. Unfortunately for them, they only have seven regular season games left to smooth out any before the bright lights of the postseason turn on. As two of the league’s premier teams, the Sixers should find some silver lining in taking both squads the distance in a span of 72 hours. Most mentioned poor execution as a catalyst in their downfall and cited it as a key area of improvement in this final stretch of the regular season. Giannis went on a scoring surge with Embiid on the sidelines and got the Bucks back to within striking distance. “Just a few execution things on both ends of the floor, offensively, defensively.

Giannis Outduels Embiid/Sixers, Bucks Steal Thriller 118-116 (Philly Sports Network)

Tuesday night, in a battle of two of the top teams in the East, the Sixers hosted Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

In 39 minutes, Maxey recorded just 7 points (3/11 FG, 1/4 3P), 6 assists, and one rebound. Rivers’ stubbornness in regards to playing the veteran big men over giving the young fives a legitimate opportunity may cost the Sixers a deep playoff run. Rivers chose Paul Millsap over both DeAndre Jordan and Paul Reed to backup Embiid in this particular matchup. Despite the loss, Doc Rivers’ squad showed encouraging signs on the offensive end. An entertaining fourth quarter saw the Mike Budenholzer-led Bucks outscore the Sixers 37-27, which led to a 118-116 Bucks win. Harden's Impressive Performance Not Enough for Sixers to Beat Bucks (Sports Illustrated)

The Philadelphia 76ers looked to end last week on a high note in Phoenix. As they had three-straight wins with victories over the Miami Heat, Los Angeles.

Embiid scored eight points in nine minutes as the Bucks and the Sixers remained neck and neck throughout the third quarter. Typically, Harden and Embiid are a dynamic duo and are on the same page in terms of scoring. Therefore, the Sixers wrapped up Tuesday’s game with a 118-116 loss to the defending champs. With one second left to go in the game, Embiid attempted a shot from point blank range, which was swatted by Antetokounmpo and sent flying out of bounds. In addition, he failed to make the game-tying shot, which turned into a controversial call. In the second half, Harden kept his foot on the gas. Overall, his performance was impressive as he scored a team-high of 32 points in 37 minutes. By the end of the first half, Harden had collected 16 points in 18 minutes. But then Harden followed up last Friday’s game with a rough showing against Phoenix on Sunday. In nearly 40 minutes of action, Harden shot just 2-11 from the field. Joel Embiid and his squad managed to take down the Bucks with a 123-120 victory. Eventually, a tight and competitive matchup turned into a double-digit victory for the Suns, who remained hot and issued the Sixers their first loss in a week. For a majority of the matchup, the Sixers were in control.

After close losses to the Bucks and Suns, the Sixers recognize they must continue to self-adjust with the playoffs in mind. By Noah Levick.

We just had some lapses throughout the course of the games — tonight in the fourth quarter and basically the second half of the Suns game, and they took advantage of it. It’s just something we have to get used to, and be on the same page and solid. “Two games that we were in and that we believe we should’ve won. “We showed him some film of the Phoenix game and I think the Lakers game,” Rivers said. “We didn’t win both of the games, but we really gave ourselves a chance and played some pretty solid games. And then offensively, we had some looks that just didn’t fall for us and we know we can make those.” Some of the team's defensive concerns are larger than needing to talk more and give consistent effort. DeAndre Jordan lost his rotation place for a night and Rivers used the 37-year-old Paul Millsap on Antetokounmpo during Embiid’s breaks. And in some situations, the iso can be good. But we need you to think of yourself as a scorer, not the way you played in Brooklyn where you were a point guard trying to run the team.’ That’s not an indication that losing double-digit leads to the Suns and Bucks portends a pre-playoffs skid. For instance, when Milwaukee double teamed Embiid in the post and Harden found himself with catch-and-shoot opportunities, those looks weren’t in his wheelhouse.

Sixers head coach Doc Rivers knows how "stacked" the East is and doesn't have a preferred playoff matchup.

Because of this, the Sixers are much better off using this time to best prepare themselves instead of worrying about the standings. Rivers has a point to not worry about the standings, but he should still keep a close on them. It’s just the way it is, and you just have to be ready to play any of them,” Rivers said pregame. With things being so tight, some teams might use this jockeying for position as a chance to create the best playoff path for themselves. For the Sixers, the primary goal is to continue getting better before the playoffs. Before the two Eastern Conference heavyweights squared off, Doc Rivers was asked his thoughts on the close seeding race to close out the year.

Mainly because of how much of a welcoming, unconventional change their presence and skill set in the lineup would be. At this point in the season it is time to experiment. The Sixers were outrebounded 56-40 and 20-5 on the offensive glass. Not to mention in game 4 of that same series, the game where the Sixers blew the game to possibly go up 3-1, where Monroe was -18 in 10:52 minutes. Expectations are high amongst the fanbase and surely in the locker room no matter how many PC cliché answers that the team gives the media. Bucks 4th Quarter Spark Exposes Sixers Fatal Flaws (Philly Sports Network)

This certainly left a sour taste in the Sixers' collective mouth, there are far larger issues to address than just the disappointing results of one game.

In the matchup with the Bucks, Joel Embiid was subbed out with 2:22 remaining in the 3rd quarter and checked back in with 9:22 remaining in the fourth. The impact of Giannis last night also exposes how weak the Sixers are on the defensive end outside of a few players. When I was on the floor, I really made sure that I was always there to help. This period of time changed the game and served as the turning point for Milwaukee’s comeback victory. Antetokounmpo checked back in with 6:26 to play and drove the game home from there. There have been some signs of progress in Doc Rivers‘ rotational creativity, such as the resurgence of Shake Milton and the staggering of Embiid and Harden’s minutes, but the bottom line is Joel Embiid cannot be expected to play all 48 minutes.

Sixers: Is Joel Embiid losing momentum for MVP? (The Sixer Sense)

The Sixers' star continues to register absurd stats, but with Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo on his heels, is Joel Embiid still the MVP favorite?

It will be close, and no matter the result, one fanbase will be vocal in its outrage. In the end, it’s impossible to know how exactly the vote will fall. In the end, all three are deserving candidates. Philly fans who paint Embiid as the runaway favorite are being disingenuous, as are Denver fans spinning the same yarn in Jokic’s favor. Antetokounmpo is averaging 29.9 points, 11.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.5 blocks on .552/.301/.722 shooting splits. Jokic is averaging 26.3 points, 13.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.9 block on .576/.345/.811 shooting splits. Embiid, meanwhile, is still the top scorer on the potential No. 1 seed. His statistical case is virtually unimpeachable, and if the Nuggets manage a strong finish to the regular season, it will be difficult for voters to ignore the Joker’s historic across-the-board production. Last time ESPN did its MVP straw poll, Joel Embiid held a narrow lead for No. 1 in the league’s Most Valuable Player race. Antetokounmpo will top several Defensive Player of the Year ballots, he is averaging more rebounds and assists than Embiid, and that probably won’t matter. Many voters stressed how tough it was for them to choose which way to go, both among the positioning of top-three finishers and fourth and fifth places.” His statistical case is just as strong as (if not stronger than) Embiid’s and the Bucks are neck-and-neck with Philadelphia in the standings.
