Celebrities turned up to the red carpet, dressed to the nines. Here's a look at some of the best fashion at this year's Oscars.

Actors Vanessa Hudgens and Terrence J, along with fashion designer Brandon Maxwell, hosted “The Oscars Red Carpet Show,” the official lead-in to the awards ceremony. Her co-star Timothée Chalamet showed up to the red carpet shirtless underneath a black sparkly Louis Vuitton suit. Zendaya, like always, understood the assignment and looked effortlessly chic.

And H.E.R. wore a neon-yellow Carolina Herrera mini with a sweeping strapless high-low dress that billowed behind her like a cloud. Men have been moving the needle when it comes to fancy dress for a while now. And he wasn’t the only one working that idea. Billie Eilish was a Gothic merengue in tiers of black Gucci moiré. Lovely as most of them looked, the dresses acted as a sort of reference library for silver screen legend, reaching back over time. And Ariana DeBose’s stoplight sweeping cape topped a bustier and pleated pants from Valentino, thus pretty much redefining the three-piece suit. But does it have to be escapism back to the past, or into the celluloid bubble?

Shades of pink were a clear Oscars 2022 red carpet favorite. But another trend that graced both the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair Oscar party red carpets was soft, spring-inspired pastel hues. Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain lit up the carpet in a Gucci peach and lavender ombre sequin gown with an adored ruffle skirt.
