'Dune' star Timothée Chalamet wore a sparkly suit and no shirt to the Oscars' red carpet, and the internet is not OK.
In “Dune” — based on the Frank Herbert novel of the same name — Chalamet plays protagonist Paul Atreides, whose noble family is involved in a political war over the desert planet Arrakis. No one is “Dune” it like shirtless Timothée Chalamet at the Academy Awards. “I’m breathing perfectly fine,” tweeted one person in response to a photo of Shirtless Chalamet posted by Times reporter Amy Kaufman.
Chalamet, 26, appears in two Best Picture-nominated films, “Dune” and “Don't Look Up,” though he is not nominated for any individual awards himself this year.
“Tired of seeing Zendaya paraded for press and not given the time and material she deserves,” tweeted Vulture writer Zoe Haylock, who wrote the article that sparked widespread fan outrage. Perhaps the “Call Me By Your Name” star will be on hand against detractors who were devastated by the fact that Zendaya, 25, appeared in only seven minutes of “Dune.” That being said, his “Dune” co-star Zendaya showed up making headlines of her own in a collared crop top and sequined skirt by Valentino.
Timothée Chalamet bolstered his reputation as one of Hollywood's boldest dressers in an embroidered lace jacket and high-waisted pants from the label's ...
The actor was one of several male stars to take an adventurous approach on this year's red carpet. Two years later, his hybrid blue Prada tracksuit-suit became one of the night's most talked about menswear looks after it drew online comparisons to various uniformed workers, from a paramedic to a parking valet. Recent award ceremonies have seen him named on "best dressed" lists thanks to his use of bright colors, sharp tailoring and elevated streetwear.
What does it take to make an Oscars' suit stand out? Choose any colour other than black (or lose your shirt)
Not since Jennifer Lopez wore that Versace dress to the Grammys has bare décolletage warranted so much discussion. The similarity between Chalamet and best actress nominee Kristen Stewart – who wore a shirt, but barely – was also difficult to miss. By turning up to the 2022 Oscars sans-shirt, Timothée Chalamet gave the red carpet its biggest fashion moment.

When Chalamet showed up to his first Oscars in 2018 when he was nominated for Call Me By Your Name, he kept things more traditional with a tuxedo—though he put his own spin on it by sticking to a completely ivory white palette. Further blurring the lines of fashion’s traditional gender divide, the outfit was actually designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s creative director who oversees the women’s collections. Timothée Chalamet just rewrote the gentlemen’s Oscars dress code for good.
Dune star Timothée Chalmet made a fashion statement on the Oscars red carpet by wearing very little clothing at all. In lieu of a dress shirt, ...
I can’t recall anyone else showing up to the Oscars without a shirt, but this is not the first time Timothée has done his own thing with the dress code. Maybe it was unusually hot in Los Angeles and he didn’t want to sweat through his tux. Maybe he was jealous of his many peers who’ve shown their midriffs recently in Miu Miu miniskirts and crop tops.
Before presenters even uttered, "And the Oscar goes to..." at Sunday night's Academy Awards, these celebrities found a place on our best-dressed list.
The lines of the robin's-egg-blue look by Bottega Veneta and tailoring are perfection. Snipes looked sleek and sophisticated in a monochromatic burgundy ensemble that was a fresh take on the typical tux. " King Richard" star Singleton surely caused quite the commotion on the red carpet in this gorgeous Miu Miu gown. With shorts, knee-length tights and patent leather sneakers, the actor was a breath of fresh air in Givenchy. There's something to be said for opting for a timeless look, and Kravitz, in a simple, strapless pastel column gown by Saint Laurent, is proof of that. Chastain clearly wanted to shine like the star she is.
Red carpet red alert: Timothée Chalamet just showed up at the 2022 Oscars without a shirt. We were not prepared. The "Dune" star, no stranger to the Academy ...
Instead, we will present this gallery of Timmy photographed from a variety of angles, no further comment needed. He did, however, pile on the jewelry, choosing to accessorize with a handful of silver rings and pendant necklaces. Honestly, we could write more words about this look.
“The Academy Awards briefly came to a stunning halt Sunday night when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, after which Will Smith went to the ...
Instead of talking about my bold attempt to play with my own masculinity, all anyone’s gonna be talking about is Will Smith’s, and whether it’s the toxic kind or not. And yet Will, Jada, and Chris will all still be unimaginably famous and wealthy. Seriously, my chest is like if a bolt of silk made love to a saucer of the freshest cream, but will that be the headline today? Of course not; they’ll be too busy tearing each other apart over whether or not violence is ever the answer and if it’s equally toxic white feminism to say it’s not. Truly, when I slid the sumptuous fabric of my lace blazer over my sleeveless arms, I thought the only smooth skin anyone would be talking about tonight was the stuff on my chest, visible for all to see and enjoy. But I showed up in Dior women’s wear and no shirt, and that, people, is a Discourse Move.
The first full-fledged Academy Awards ceremony in two years carries on the distinct assertion that certain things are now “back.” Hollywood is back.
(Did I forget to mention that sex is back, too?) But Chalamet and his stylist Erin Walsh, whom the actor began working with last year during rollouts for his films The French Dispatch and Dune, certainly calculated the look to get the Twitter stans running for the hills. We saw a lot of skin on the carpet last night, and not in the way we normally do, from Kristen Stewart in sequined Chanel tap shorts to Zendaya in an ultra-cropped Valentino button down. The jacket, worn open in the front with lace-rimmed sleeves, showcased an entire arsenal of Cartier jewelry (the Maison named Timmy as an official “Friend of the House” last fall), and was cropped in the back with a scoop high enough to reveal his trousers’ V-shaped split waistband, fastened with an LV-monogrammed tab.
