The Peacocks made college basketball history against Purdue in the Sweet 16. There is still more to be made on Sunday.
“The whole thing about kids from New York and New Jersey not being afraid is real,” he said, relaxing on what would be the Saint Peter’s bench a couple of hours before tip-off. Webster was the star of what was the school’s most glamorous team before last weekend. Edert even jumped on the press table to lead cheers. The Peacocks didn’t blink when they fell behind, and they made all their free throws down the stretch (hitting 19 of 21 for the game). When it was over, they celebrated wildly, running to where their fans were and generally going crazy. “He was an absolute class act,” Spanarkel said. The real key, though, was the guard play. Williams warmed up in the second half and finished with 16 points. When the teams took the court before tip-off, it was easy to see the difference between them. The Peacocks, who became America’s team with their massive upset of Kentucky followed by a win over a very good Murray State team, attacked at both ends of the court from the start. Saint Peter’s promptly scored six straight, keyed by guard Daryl Banks III, whose tough spinning shot in the lane gave his team the lead — as it turned out, for good — with 2:17 to go. Williams was 1 for 5 and took several shots that might as well have been turnovers. “We don`t blow teams out,” Saint Peter’s Coach Shaheen Holloway said.

The Tigers and Hardaway are accused of violating several Level I allegations, considered the NCAA's most severe.
Hardaway is accused of paying moving expenses for Wiseman and his family before later being hired by Memphis and later landing him as a recruit, which goes against NCAA rules as a booster and could be construed as an inducement to earn his commitment. Memphis, meanwhile, refused to sit him while the process played out, a decision that almost immediately backfired and may cost the Tigers any goodwill in the eyes of the IARP. The IARP in its investigation also accused Memphis of not properly preserving the hard drive from the computer of ex-assistant coach Mike Miller, the contents of which were later deleted.
Memphis is reportedly facing four Level I and two Level II NCAA violations stemming from an 18-month investigation into the Tigers' program.
Because he donated $1 million to Memphis in 2008 to build a sports hall of fame, Hardaway was considered a booster. It says Hardaway was involved in at least one of the Level I violations and the two Level II violations. An infractions case involving former Memphis center James Wiseman was the first case accepted by the IARP in the spring of 2020.

Memphis' case was referred to the IARP in March 2020. Memphis and Hardaway submitted responses to the amended NOA on Oct. 25. The charges were outlined in an amended Notice of Allegations that the NCAA’s Independent Accountability Resolution Process served to Memphis in July 2021.

Saint Peter's is now the first No. 15 seed to make it to the Elite Eight.
Here’s the final seconds of the game: Saint Peter’s took a four-point lead in the final minute of a back-and-forth game against the Boilermakers and were able to hold on for the 67-64 victory. Saint Peter’s has become the underdog that everybody has come to love in the past week of the NCAA tournament and that love will only continue to grow after what the Peacocks did Friday night in Philadelphia – they upset No. 3 Purdue to become the first No. 15 seed in history to advance to the Elite Eight.
Penny Hardaway and the University of Memphis athletics department are facing multiple Level I and Level II violations allegations. Here's what they mean.
Level II violations also pertain to impermissible benefits and conduct that may threaten the integrity of college sports. The most noticeable difference between Level I and Level II violations is the latter are more systemic in nature. So what are Level I and Level II violations? It is defined as "major violations occurred and the institution failed to display adequate compliance measures." Many of the specific details and allegations included in the documents were heavily redacted by the university. Included among the violations detailed in the amended notice of allegations (issued on July 9, 2021) are a lack of institutional control, head coach responsibility and failure to monitor.
Saint Peter's is this year's NCAA Tournament darling, becoming the first-ever No. 15 seed to reach the Elite Eight. But will the Peacocks' Cinderella run ...
That's right: the Tar Heels are the lowest-seeded team Saint Peter's has played to date. With that number running 1) over 10 games and 2) while playing two of the nation's top five offenses in Purdue (1st on KenPom.com) and Kentucky (fifth), that's not exactly a small sample size. But after three straight upsets, maybe it's time to start giving Saint Peter's its due. But since the start of the NCAA Tournament, Saint Peter's has actually put together a better three games than multiple Elite Eight teams. Saint Peter's held Kentucky to 1.05 points per possession, a number that would have been even lower if not for arguably the nation's best offensive rebounder in Oscar Tshiebwe pulling down six offensive boards. Saint Peter's has the second-best defense in effective field-goal percentage, holding opponents to 38.7% shooting on their 2-point attempts (second in the country) and 27.1% shooting behind the arc. A big portion of that comes from challenging opponents' shots, particularly inside the arc. Over the last month, this is a top 20-type team. "You think we're worried about guys trying to muscle us and tough us out? North Carolina is currently an eight-point favorite according to Caesars Sportsbook, a pretty sizable line for this late in the tournament. "You think we're scared of anything? "You know, that's who we are.
Memphis men's basketball is accused of committing seven major NCAA violations, including at least one involving head coach Penny Hardaway.
The prized recruit followed Hardaway to Memphis as the centerpiece of a heralded class. At least four of the seven violations are Level I and two are Level II, which is for “significant” breach of conduct. Other requests for information were not met within the mandatory 30-day window.
Saint Peter's Cinderella Story highlighted a high-flying and intense night for the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, becoming the first No.

And which side of the spread hits almost 70 percent of the time? North Carolina is above-average in two-point shooting allowed and block rate, with Saint Peter's falling well below the national average in two-point accuracy and turnover rate. Saint Peter's also creates havoc with a turnover rate north of 20 percent, and the Peacocks are strongly above-average in block rate (14.6 percent) and steal rate (10.7 percent) this season. Saint Peter's is also excellent on defense, ranking in the top 25 of the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency. Loyola Marymount didn't reach the peak of NCAA Tournament success, but few Cinderella stories captivated the nation through the month of March quite like their sprint through the tournament to the Elite Eight. Paul Westhead was the architect of "The System," and prepared his team for the wide-open style with exercises running up sand dunes during preseason conditioning and hours of sprint work on the track. It's the modern poster child for a Cinderella story in the NCAA Tournament, and a big reason why this event is one of the greatest postseasons in all of American sports. Georgetown was the defending champion and had Patrick Ewing, but before another rematch with the Hoyas Ed Pinckney and Villanova had to get through 1-seed Michigan, Len Bias and Maryland and a Dean Smith-coached North Carolina team that had just lost Michael Jordan but still had Brad Daugherty as its star. They had Lil B on their side ("swag") and plenty of good mojo during the improbable extra-game run that started with a fourth place finish in the CAA and ended with a loss to Butler in the Final Four. Along the way VCU beat USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and Kansas while laying the foundation for both Smart and the VCU program to remain relevant to this day. But Loyola's ranking, and the reason why so many loved the story, was rooted not just in Sister Jean or the their seed line but the thrilling endings to each and every game. LSU was the first 11-seed to make the Final Four, the lowest seed ever, and did so after barely making the tournament. A Cinderella run doesn't require that the team come from a mid-major conference, but if that was a qualification then the conversation has to always start with George Mason. In 2006, Jim Larranaga led the Patriots to the Final Four as the first mid-major team to get that far since 1979. What makes Dunk City highest-rated of the No. 15 seeds to make a second-weekend run was the flare with which they bounced Georgetown and San Diego State from the tournament. Donovan -- then "Billy the Kid" to some -- had 20 points against the Hoyas to propel the Friars into the Final Four. In 2009, when Cleveland State was set to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the run, head coach Kevin Mackey told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that they used to work on full-court pressure and traps with the Vikings for an hour and a half each day. Dayton was 13-8 at the end of January, but in a watershed year for the Atlantic 10 the Flyers were able to capture an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament and beat Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford before losing to Florida in the Elite Eight. Jordan Sibert was the star then, but Archie Miller has become the face of that run now, even just three short years later. They then extended their winning streak (21) into the Elite Eight. Stan Heath, a rookie coach at the time at the age of 36, was fresh from Tom Izzo's staff at Michigan State and had four seniors to lead the way for the one of the most memorable seasons in program history.

SportsLine's Micah Roberts has locked in this four-way parlay for Saturday's Elite Eight matchups in March Madness 2022.
"Duke likes to play fast as well and has gone Over the number in eight of its last nine," Roberts told SportsLine. Visit SportsLine now to see Micah Roberts' four-way parlay for Saturday, all from the expert who has returned more than $2,300 over his last 74 college basketball picks. According to KenPom, the Blue Devils score 120.9 points per 100 possessions, which ranks second in the country. The Blue Devils are four-point favorites in the Duke vs. The Cougars (32-5), who knocked off top-seeded Arizona to reach the Elite Eight, are two-point favorites in the latest Houston vs. The Houston Cougars will try to reach the Final Four for the seventh time in program history when they battle the veteran Villanova Wildcats in the first of two Elite Eight games of the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The Cougars are a perfect 6-0 all-time in the Elite Eight; no other program is better than 2-0 without a loss.
Notre Dame led for much of the game. Then Raina Perez of North Carolina State drove in for a layup.
Under Coach Jeff Walz, Louisville has made a habit of deep runs in the tournament, and this season is no exception. Engstler was a semifinalist for the defensive player of the year award, and her versatility was evident. After making just one 3-pointer in the entire first half, the Volunteers shot 4 for 6 on threes in the third quarter alone. When Tennessee did get into offensive sets it was rarely able to penetrate to the basket and often had to resort to long cross-court passes and contested 3-point attempts. They had started to fade early, back in the first quarter when Fudd and Williams began an 8-point run. For the Huskies, who handily outdistanced Indiana in rebounds and second-chance points, offensive success came not from pinpoint shooting but simply plenty of it. If the Huskies beat N.C. State on Monday night in Bridgeport, where they played Saturday before what approximated a home crowd with all of the accompanying cheers, charms and curses, they will secure their 14th straight Final Four berth. While Michigan, a No. 3 seed, is accustomed to success in men’s basketball, it has been harder to come by for the women’s team. Michigan quickly went up 5 and South Dakota could have folded. But Michigan swarmed Watson on the perimeter, and her 3-point shot was an airball. Chloe Lamb of South Dakota missed an open 3-pointer. For much of the afternoon, in fact, N.C. State’s offense teetered toward the hapless by its extraordinary standards.
PHILADELPHIA -- The NCAA tournament has been played since 1939, an annual athletic carnival engineered to match the opposite ends of college basketball's ...
Twenty-two years ago, as a Seton Hall player, Holloway suffered an ankle injury in the second round of the NCAA tournament and couldn't play in Seton Hall's Sweet 16 game. "These guys, man," he told ESPN. "A bunch of kids that no one really wanted and thought they couldn't play. "You'd think a No. 15 seed that wins a game would get rattled," Saint Peter's athletic director Rachelle Paul said. Over that stretch, Purdue's offense stagnated and Holloway's adjustment allowed Saint Peter's to race ahead. That came through in the reactions of Boilermakers players after the game. That twirl symbolized just how Saint Peter's authored a Sweet 16 upset that featured no star player or singular moment, but rather the collective will of 10 indomitable players who stared down NCAA tournament history and never blinked. The late turning point came when the Peacocks switched to a 2-3 matchup zone with nearly four minutes remaining. Purdue looked flummoxed by zone on the next possession but still managed a Williams free throw. As the final Saint Peter's staff members walked onto the team bus in the chilly Philadelphia night, Purdue center Zach Edey wandered around the parking lot by himself, with no teammates or Boilermaker staffers in sight. It came after a Saint Peter's possession that ultimately defined the Peacocks' historic upset on Friday night. "I'm honestly still in shock," Purdue senior center Trevion Williams said. And they did it with a distinct defensive twist.

In other news, the 11th-seeded Cyclones trailed 10th-seeded Miami 25-21 with 3:54 to go in the first half of the final Sweet 16 game. He turns 25 in September. Being almost old enough to rent a car without the extra insurance has its advantages in college basketball. I once interviewed him at a recruiting event, the summer before his senior high school season, back in ... 2015. Miami's Kameron McGusty leads all scorers through the first 20 minutes with 14 points and five boards on 3-of-4 shooting from long range. Johnny Juzang, hero of last year's Final Four run, is heating up for the Bruins. He has 14 points, seven in the last three minutes. Whatever happens next, the last month has been a stunning turnaround for first-year Carolina coach Hubert Davis. The Heels were on the bubble in the middle of February and now they've won 9 of 10 games and are so close to a national semifinal they can taste it. North Carolina and Duke have never played in the NCAA tournament. Kameron McGusty, by the way, was terrific for Miami in tonight's 70-56 win over Iowa State. He had 27 points (10-18 FG, 4-7 3PT), six rebounds and four steals. “He wants to work at things.” This was no one-hit-wonder, not another low seed outmatched on the second weekend. I find myself watching games, listening to some of the commentary, and feeling that some of it was maybe unfair. You would think we would get the benefit of the doubt because of the history and tradition.
However, there are a few surprise schools still in the bracket. Creighton and South Dakota have each reached the Sweet 16 as No. 10 seeds, while No. 6 seed Ohio ...
No. 1 Louisville (-7.5) vs. In the first round, South Dakota beat No. 7 Ole Miss 75-61, and while that was a bit unexpected, it wasn't a completely surprising result. The No. 10 seed Coyotes have not only defeated two solid teams, but they have also notched a pair of convincing victories. Considering South Dakota beat Baylor with such ease, it may be capable of defeating the Wolverines as well. See DraftKings.com/sportsbook for full terms and conditions. The Fighting Irish are rolling offensively, as they previously tallied 89 points in their first-round win over No. 12 UMass. Notre Dame has faced tougher competition in the tourney than NC State, and it's impressed while doing so. Creighton and South Dakota have each reached the Sweet 16 as No. 10 seeds, while No. 6 seed Ohio State is also still alive. Head coach Geno Auriemma knows how to lead runs to the national championship, and the Huskies were picked by many as a top title contender this year. That shouldn't be an issue. The event has traditionally been dominated by the top teams in the country. No. 1 NC State (-8.5) vs.
The women's Sweet 16 opens Friday in the Greensboro and Spokane regionals. Which teams are most likely to erase the chalk in the regional semifinals?
It's nice to see her get a chance to play in the Sweet 16, and possibly even go against a No. 1 seed, if Iowa State and South Carolina advance. With Paige Bueckers not doing a ton of heavy lifting offensively, the Huskies will need Fudd to get going from the arc, where she's shooting north of 50% so far this tournament, and show some dexterity in getting to the rim, something we saw from her more frequently early in the season. Louisville is the smallest betting favorite of the four, but I believe it's the likeliest to move through to the Elite Eight. So I'll go with NC State as the most vulnerable, for no other reason than the Wolfpack already lost once to Notre Dame this season (69-66 on Feb. 1), during a stretch in which their offense was struggling. But after some early-season bouts of inconsistency, Van Lith has been playing some of her best basketball in the postseason, opening the NCAA tournament with a pair of 20-point outings in wins against Albany and Gonzaga. The Cardinals will ask for much of the same, if not even more, from the 5-7 sophomore guard going forward. In Greensboro, South Carolina is a pretty overwhelming favorite, and although its defense has been soul-crushing, the offense has looked wonky. Texas is the favorite, but Ohio State could be a challenge. Ohio State, the No. 6 seed in Spokane, didn't play in the NCAA tournament last year due to a self-imposed ban after NCAA violations. The Cyclones will have the best player on court in All-American senior guard/forward Ashley Joens, who is averaging 24.0 PPG and 12.5 RPG so far in the tournament. Granted, Miller missed that game with an injury, but Reese was rendered a nonfactor (6 points, 2-of-13 from the field) by that Stanford length. And which teams will leave the Bridgeport, Greensboro, Spokane and Wichita regionals as champions and head to the women's Final Four in Minneapolis? That, and the Cardinal's depth, will be the difference. All four No. 1 seeds -- the South Carolina Gamecocks, Stanford Cardinal, NC State Wolfpack and Louisville Cardinals -- reached the regional semifinals.
Purdue continues its march toward the Final Four on Friday night when it takes on No. 15 Saint Peter's in the East Regional semifinals in Philadelphia.
Saint Peter's is just the 10th 15-seed to ever win a game in the tournament and just the third to make it to the second weekend. 7:40 p.m. — The Saint Peter's lead gets to four now, the biggest of the game for the Peacocks at 23-19. - HISTORY OF NO. 15 SEEDS IN NCAA TOURNAMENT: For only the third time in NCAA Tournament history, a No. 15 seed has advanced to the regional semifinals. Jalen Murray goes to the line on the other end, and Saint Peter's pulls back ahead 19-17. Mason Gillis hits two free throws for Purdue, but the Peacocks then drag out Zach Edey in a pick-and-roll situation and point guard Matthew Lee hits a 27-footer to tie it. Purdue leads 49-45 and it's helped that Saint Peter's is just 6-for-17 shooting so far in the second half. 8:52 p.m. — We're at the under-8 timeout now, and things are still tense. 9:07 p.m. — After the timeout, Trevion Williams goes to the line. Trevion Williams misses a shortie on the other end, and then gets called for a foul. 8:59 p.m. — Trevion Williams has been the more effective big for Purdue. He gets good position inside and scores, and was fouled. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Purdue is standing in the way of a great Cinderella story, and that's just fine with them. 9:15 p.m. — Tough defensive possession for Purdue. They get the stop they wanted when Daryl Banks missed a floater, but then Hassan Drame got the offensive rebound.
Everyone loves a Cinderella story in the NCAA tournament and the Peacocks are fulfilling their role nicely this year.
It is impossible to measure the dollar benefit of what this Saint Peter’s team have done for the university. This Saint Peter’s team includes players from the Central African Republic, Mali and Senegal, so the word has spread. I worry about the team I have right now. Isaiah Dasher, a senior guard who grew up in Jersey City (and played at two other colleges before coming back), said of Holloway, “It’s 24/7 with him. The Saint Peter’s Peacocks offer a break, a getaway. Then the season was halted for four weeks because of Covid. After a 20 February loss to Siena, the Peacocks had a 12-11 record. “I’m not worried about that,” Holloway said Tuesday. “I worry about the job I have right now. The team’s best player is probably the 6ft 7in shot-blocking senior forward KC Ndefo, whose only Division I scholarship offer out of high school was from Saint Peter’s. As the crow flies, the campus is five miles from the Empire State Building but is jammed in among the lively but unglamorous clutter of Jersey City. Ndefo had to sit out a month because he was not vaccinated. Saint Peter’s, a Jesuit school, has a total enrollment of about 3,000 students. Doug Edert, a junior guard who grew up 10 miles away but knew nothing about Saint Peter’s until he was offered a scholarship there, smiled and said, “That’s exactly how it feels.

The animations might not be as smooth as 2K’s, but it was still fun to start a franchise mode and watch players’ RPI ratings change dynamically according to real-life performances each week. Legacy Mode gives you a struggling college team (handpicked from a limited selection) and offers the chance to turn around its fortunes and create a dynasty or move on up to a more prestigious university. NCAA College Basketball 2K3 brought the ESPN presentation, carried over from NBA 2K3, that turned heads at the time and started to show NBA Live up as a complacent franchise. It had a lot more teams than we’d been treated to before, and the shiniest floors. It’s understandable – the NBA is a truly global product by comparison, and it took NBA 2K until recently to even include the women’s game. Sadly, video game basketball doesn’t get quite as swept up in the college game excitement.

Zach Edey and the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers look to defeat the No. 15 Saint Peter's Peacocks in the Sweet 16. Here is how tall the sophomore is.
In his first season with Hilltoppers, Sharp averaged 8.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.6 blocks through 32 games. Sophomore center Zach Edey is a main contributor with that advantage, as he towers over his opponents. But how tall is Edey?
Saint Peter's made NCAA Tournament history on Friday by becoming the first No. 15 seed ever to advance into the Elite Eight after knocking off No.
Facing off against a Purdue team that owned the No. 1 offense in adjusted efficiency according to KenPom.com metrics, they held the Boilermakers to 23-of-54 shooting from the field, 5-of-21 from 3-point range and forced 15 turnovers. Purdue star and potential No. 1 NBA Draft pick Jaden Ivey did his darndest to put Purdue in a position to win in regulation or force an extra period, hitting a 3-pointer with under 10 seconds remaining to close the deficit to one point and rimming out a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime. It marked the sixth-worst shooting game for Purdue from the floor all season and tied for the fourth-most turnovers committed in a game. They will face off against either No. 4 seed UCLA or No. 8 seed North Carolina on Sunday in the East Regional final. "I said 'What are they going to say now?' Anybody got something to say?" Saint Peter's made NCAA Tournament history on Friday by becoming the first No. 15 seed ever to advance into the Elite Eight after knocking off No. 3 seed Purdue 67-64 in a Sweet 16 stunner.
Tiny St. Peter's University is alive and well and moving on to the final eight of the N.C.A.A. tournament after slaying yet another basketball powerhouse.
Iowa State outrebounded the Hurricanes and Miami shot just 64 percent from the free throw line. That either Iowa State or Miami had made it to Chicago for a regional semifinal was improbable. Early on, the Hurricanes and Cyclones appeared to be mirror images of each other, trading scoring runs in a fast-paced, physical game that was so frenetic that it sometimes bordered on sloppy. Kansas is advancing to the round of 8 for the ninth time during Coach Bill Self’s tenure in Lawrence. Only one of those trips has ended with a national title. Kansas, whose youngest starter is a redshirt sophomore, was also able to lean on Remy Martin, a super-senior and Arizona State transfer, who led the Jayhawks in scoring with 23 points. Ochai Agbaji, a national player of the year finalist, made just 2 of 8 field goals. R.J. Davis tallied 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Minutes later, he drove to the basket to give Providence a fleeting taste of the lead. Purdue, known for its big, tall, athletic players, outrebounded and outscored St. Peter’s inside, but the Peacocks found a way to win anyway. St. Peter’s is the first New Jersey school to make it this far in the men’s tournament since Holloway was a point guard on the 2000 Seton Hall team. Tiny St. Peter’s University is alive and well and moving on to the final eight of the N.C.A.A. tournament after slaying yet another basketball powerhouse. North Carolina knocked off U.C.L.A., and Kansas and Miami also advanced.

- HISTORY OF NO. 15 SEEDS IN NCAA TOURNAMENT: For only the third time in NCAA Tournament history, a No. 15 seed has advanced to the regional semifinals. We wanted to win the Big Ten Tournament and we came up short in the final. A No. 15 seed has never won a game in the second week of the tourney.CLICK HERE We wanted to win the big Ten, and we came up short. But they are a good team, and they've earned their way to the Elite Eight. It doesn't matter if they were a 15 seed. "In the second half, I immediately thought about North Texas, (the No. 13 seed that beat Purdue in the first round last year.) I was going to do whatever it took. It was like a minicamp for us, and it was great for me because we were able to change a lot of things up.'' Our whole team, we handled their pressure at the end and we made our free throws.'' Saint Peter's had a 10-0 run early to get ahead, as the Purdue defense struggled out of the break. "We had a great crowd tonight, and the whole environment was just unreal. Once again, a team that was No. 1 in the country at one point and a top-10 team all season fell short of its goal of a Final Four, an event that Purdue hasn't played in since 1980, a long 42 years ago — and counting. Saint Peter's, a small school from the mean streets of Jersey City, N.J., did something that no No. 15 seed has even done before in the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.
South Carolina, the top overall seed, beat North Carolina, while Texas topped Ohio State in a game that came down to the final seconds.
Though Maryland pulled within 6 points down the stretch, it only served to make the dominating Stanford win look a little closer on paper than it was. From that point the game started to get out of hand, with Stanford’s lead stretching to 26 points late in the third. The Longhorns’ lead shrank to 1 point as the game clock wound down, and the Buckeyes had the ball. The Cardinal looked so in control of both ends of the floor that Fran Belibi almost replicated her dunk from Stanford’s first-round game, blocking Chloe Bibby’s 3-point shot and racing to the other end to lay in a finger roll. Texas would lead by as many as 10 points, until Ohio State forced a series of turnovers that brought the game right back within reach with just four minutes remaining. Entering the final frame, Texas had stretched its lead to 5 points. But Ohio State’s senior guard Braxtin Miller hit all but one shot she attempted that quarter, scoring 8 points and keeping Texas from getting comfortable. From that point, it started to look as if sixth-seeded Ohio State might beat Texas at its own game, pressing the Longhorns from baseline to baseline every time they inbounded the ball. While their ferocious defense, one of the best in the tournament, has denied its competition again and again, the Gamecocks’ offense has struggled to convert drives to points. Deja Kelly, North Carolina’s sophomore guard, danced around South Carolina’s defense to lead her team with 23 points. On defense, Creighton denied inside baskets for Iowa State. Creighton delivered its third consecutive upset by beating the No. 3 seed Iowa State, 76-68, on Friday night in the N.C.A.A. women’s tournament.

The 2022 NCAA Elite Eight doesn't look like anything anyone expected. Where do all eight rank heading into the regional finals?
Jim Larrañaga has put it all together to lead Miami to its first Elite Eight appearance in school history. There was a three-point loss to Virginia and a one-point loss to Virginia Tech. All games the Hurricanes -- who beat Duke and North Carolina -- could have won to add to a résumé that doesn't tell the full story about their season. But they were aggressive and won at the free throw line (19-for-21) and via defensive pressure that refused to give the Boilermakers anything easy in the final minutes. And then they beat a Purdue squad Friday led by projected lottery pick Jaden Ivey and two of the top big men in the Big Ten, Zach Edey and Trevion Williams. "But I'm also hopeful that there's a game where we don't have to and we play great the entire game." Although the postgame narrative has centered on what Gonzaga failed to do, it has also minimized what the Razorbacks achieved: This will be their second consecutive Elite Eight appearance, and second Elite Eight trip since 1995. Houston is a serious contender to win the national championship. After the Cougars bowed out of last year's Final Four, they lost their Nos. 1 and 3 scorers, Quentin Grimes and DeJon Jarreau. Then, an injury in December ended the 2021-22 season for Marcus Sasser, who had taken over from Grimes as the No. 1 scorer for Houston. Tramon Mark, who averaged 7.8 PPG last season, also suffered a year-ending injury in December. And just like that, Sampson had a team that, it seemed, might struggle to win the American Athletic Conference title. And Martin has been consistent, averaging 19.3 PPG and connecting on 64% of his shots inside the arc and 40% of his 3-point attempts in the NCAA tournament. And every team on this list has done something to make you think that a run to New Orleans is possible. Your sibling who said they picked Miami to make the Elite Eight for the first time? Sure. And yeah, every Duke fan knew Coach K would reach the Elite Eight in his final season.

Ivey hit the team's lone 3-pointer of the second half, making it a one-point game with eight seconds left to play. Ivey desperately tried to take over the game and will Purdue to victory, but the team couldn't find enough plays on the offensive end of the court to pull away. They’ll need it against North Carolina in the Elite 8 matchup but after beating a 2, 3, and 7 seed, beating an 8 seed shouldn’t be that difficult. We still have a few juggernauts left that have to think they’re the favorites to win the national title but who is truly the best?
