The Dolphins have traded for Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, making him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history. The blockbuster deal ...
He imagined the bedlam of the postgame lockerroom celebration enough to plan for it. But first, look in the mirror The blockbuster deal includes five draft picks. Hardly anybody believed his No. 10-seeded Canes would beat No. 2 Auburn Sunday night in the Midwest Region to reach the men’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The franchise of Bullygate, and the offensive line coach canned for snorting cocaine off his desk. If he makes the Fins a playoff team, and helps Tua blossom, he’s worth it. Miami got him for a good price, too, relatively speaking, at $87.5 million over five years. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill (10) returns a punt 78 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter against the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium in Raytown, Mo., on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016. He’ll turn 31 as training camp begins in late July, still in his prime but perhaps the far side of it. And he better not be getting tackled before he throws, so somebody better block.” And fewer who can catch him The blockbuster deal includes five draft picks.
Miami makes a huge splash with the top offensive lineman available.
CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Chris Trapasso still believes the Dolphins go offensive line, as he has them taking Northern Iowa offensive lineman Trevor Penning in his mock draft published on Wednesday. * Miami's offensive line problems: The Dolphins needed to overhaul their offensive line this offseason if they want to compete. It not only affected the Dolphins' play-calls with their quarterbacks having to get rid of the ball quickly, but also has affected Tagovailoa and his development. Armstead topped CBS Sports' list of best available free agents, as he was the top tackle in this free agency class. One interesting caveat concerning Armstead's decision in free agency is that he won't be Tagovailoa's blind-side blocker if he remains on the left side because the young signal-caller is left-handed. The Miami Dolphins needed to make an addition on the offensive line to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and this front office did just that.
It isn't much of a consolation but the Saints project to get a compensatory 2023 draft pick after losing Terron Armstead to the Dolphins.
At the same time, the Saints have some free agents who could tip the scales further in their favor. If the Saints sign another qualifying comp free agent (a player whose last contract expired, and who is signed at greater than minimum salary) the scales will balance out and they won’t get this pick for Armstead. That’s why they aren’t getting the fourth rounder they were previously projected to receive after losing free safety Marcus Williams — the corresponding move to sign his replacement Marcus Maye negated that pick. That tide has turned a bit in recent years, with New Orleans receiving three comp picks in 2021 and two in 2022.
Armstead is joining former Dallas guard Connor Williams as new additions to the team. Learn more at Boston.com.
“It’s all about camaraderie, it’s all about trusting the guy to the left and to the right of you. You’re as good as the whole line’s strength all together. A person with knowledge of the agreement said Armstead will sign a five-year deal worth nearly $75 million, with about $44 million guaranteed.
The Saints are going to need some help up front. Here are 5 players declaring for the draft that the Black & Gold should consider.
Parham played guard in college, but I feel like he has what it takes to make the jump to left tackle. New Orleans might be able to get him in the second or third round, and if that’s the case, scoop him up at all costs. He’s got great footwork, the raw ability to pass block, and the football IQ to know the defense’s move before they do.
Armstead is one of the best athletes in the NFL playing offensive line. Armstead was a tremendous draft pick by Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis, chosen 75th ...
James Hurst filled in admirably last season and has eight years of NFL experience with 64 starts but he is nowhere near the skill level of Armstead. Hurst is a possibility to succeed Armstead but may be best suited in his super sub role at either tackle spot and as a third blocking tight end in run situations. Still, Armstead will go down in franchise history as one of the best tackles and offensive linemen to ever wear the black and gold and down the road, should garner Saints Hall of Fame induction when he becomes eligible. In tandem with Ryan Ramczyk, the Saints had arguably the best duo of tackles in the NFL. In 2021, Armstead missed nine games and it cost the Saints dearly. Armstead is one of the best athletes in the NFL playing offensive line. Over the course of nine seasons, Armstead has protected the backside of Drew Brees in superb fashion and he has done an excellent job in the run game as well.
Some reaction around the league: NFL Net's Bucky Brooks: “The 49ers' offense went next level when Trent Williams came over. I'm not putting Terron Armstead in ...
“Never missed a game [with that injury]. There was the time he played in multiple games with a broken thumb and played so well no one noticed for a few weeks. That accounts for much of the $44 million in guaranteed money. In 2019, he allowed not a single sack in 583 pass blocking snaps. Armstead played over 750 offensive snaps just twice in the first six seasons of his career, missing 26 games between his second and sixth seasons. He lifted up his arm and there was a hole in his armpit. Armstead may not quite be Trent Williams, but he’s one of the best all-around tackles in the league and would make almost any offense better.” ▪ Armstead, who has made three Pro Bowls, allowed only one sack in 263 pass blocking snaps last season. And also good in the run game. While he’s graded better as a pass-blocker over his career, he’s not a liability in the run game by any means. One time I was talking to him at his locker and asked about a chest injury. If they’re going to be bullies in the AFC, they have to have someone to change the way the offensive line operates. I’m not putting Terron Armstead in the same category but that veteran presence, they need that.
The Miami Dolphins have a solution at left tackle after using five different starters since the departure of Laremy Tunsil.
By all accounts, Armstead is a top 10, maybe even top five left tackle, and getting him at an average of $15 million with a little less than $44 million guaranteed, per Adam Schefter, actually represents a very good deal for the Dolphins based on ability. You probably have to go back to Mike Pouncey, who last played for Miami in 2017. And now the hope is that Armstead gives the Dolphins elite left tackle play like they previously got from guys like Richmond Webb, Jake Long and Tunsil before he was traded.
