Nick Sirianni reunites with one of his former receivers from the Indianapolis Colts, who had a big role in one of the Eagles' motivational rallies.
They went out, and the gates opened for them to hunt, and they went out and hunt. Said Sirianni of Pascal in mid-September when asked about the roots of the "Dawg Mentality": "Zach Pascal, our receiver in Indianapolis, he had the shirts and passed them out. Pascal is a player who went undrafted after a terrific career at Old Dominion – he caught an Old Dominion-record 233 passes for 3,184 yards and 30 touchdowns in four seasons there and was the first player in school history invited to the NFL Scouting Combine – and then was cut by Washington and twice by Tennessee before finding his niche with the Colts in 2018.

He also credited Pascal with the “Dawg Culture” T-shirts he gave out in his first year to reinforce his “dog mentality” philosophy. While Pascal’s receiving production is somewhat modest, he also brings some value as a willing and capable blocker on screens and in the running game. According to Pro Football Focus, Pascal played 72% of his offensive snaps in the slot last season.
The Eagles are signing Nick Sirianni's favorite player to a one-year deal. By Reuben Frank.
Pascal had 150 catches for 1,888 yards and 15 touchdowns with a 12.6 average in four years with the Colts, who originally signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion, where he played alongside Travis Fulgham in 2015 and 2016. In his best years, Pascal had 41 catches for 607 yards and five TDs in 2020 playing with Jacoby Brissett and 44-for-629 and five TDs in 2020 playing with Philip Rivers. He was one of only 10 receivers to catch at least 40 passes and average over 14 yards per catch in both 2019 and 2020. Pascal started out his Colts career as a special teamer before working his way into the offense late in his rookie year.
Pascal appeared in 64 games over four seasons with the Colts, catching 150 passes for 1888 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Pascal struggled against Tampa Bay this season, catching just two passes for 12 yards on seven targets, losing a fumble after a 9-yard reception. He appeared in 64 games over four seasons, catching 150 passes for 1,888 yards and 15 touchdowns. He led the team in receiving yards in 2019, but his most productive season came in 2020, when he caught a career-high 44 passes for 629 yards and five touchdowns.
The former undrafted free agent wide receiver can make plays out of the slot, and he has a history with Nick Sirianni. In his four years with Indianapolis, ...
The Philadelphia Eagles did exactly as we all expected them to and signed free agent wide receiver Zach Pascal to a one-year contract on Monday afternoon, ...
Out of 94 qualifying receivers (minimum 20% targets) , they were the very bottom two receivers in Pro Football Focus’s “yards per route run” metric last season. Speaking of Reagor, Pascal shares some unfortunate company with the Eagles’ 2020 first-round pick. The Eagles signing Pascal does not preclude them from adding more receiver talent, be it via trade or the 2022 NFL Draft. For now, though, the newest addition projects as a top three receiver on the team. No one is denying the Eagles need to add more talent at receiver and adding Pascal would hardly be a sexy signing. And then finally, Pascal was integral in Sirianni’s “dawg mentality” theme that the Eagles adopted in Sirianni’s rookie head coaching season, as documented in a great story by Zach Berman of The Athletic.” But Pascal might happen to fit exactly what the Eagles are looking for in free agency.
Pascal caught only 38 passes last season despite playing 872 offensive snaps, but he does have the benefit of familiarity with Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, who ...
The Eagles finally made a move in free agency to address the wide receiver position, and the player they are bringing in is very familiar with Eagles head ...
Pascal showed a decent ability to find where the soft spots were in the zone and make plays in that manner.Pascal was the first significant wide receiver signing that the Eagles have made this offseason. The team had re-signed Greg Ward to a one-year deal and tried to trade for Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley. However, Ridley was suspended for at least one year for gambling on NFL games during a five-day stretch when he was on the non-football injury list last season. The signing of Pascal does not mean the Eagles will not make any other moves. With 10 draft picks, could ship potentially a Day 2 or Day 3 selection to another team to bring in another veteran receiver to join this offense or use a first or second round pick on a receiver. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Zach Pascal agreed on a one-year deal for Pascal to come to Philadelphia and leave the Indianapolis Colts. In 16 games for the Colts last season, Pascal caught 38 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Pascal has a lot of familiarity with Sirianni because Sirianni was the Colts offensive coordinator when Pascal entered the league in 2018, helping him develop as a wide receiver and a contributor to the Colts offense.Pascal is not a number one receiver. The team needs to add another veteran presence being that the top three wide receivers last year (Smith, Watkins, and Jalen Reagor) are all under 23 years old. Instead, Pascal figures to be a complimentary piece that can help ease the burden on DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins. Pascal was heralded by Sirianni because of his route-running, describing how Pascal set up defensive players with his footwork to find the open areas of the defense to present himself to be open and make catches. With the speed that Smith and Watkins have, along with tight end Dallas Goedert being in the middle of the field, there could be plenty of space and opportunities for Pascal to operate in the middle of the field and in zone coverage. The veteran presence will help those receivers decipher defenses better and continue to focus on the details necessary to be successful.Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust. After a week of Philadelphia Eagles fans begging for a move, Howie Roseman swooped in to sign wide receiver Zach Pascal to a one-year deal.
As the seasons passed, Pascal’s role in the offense continued to grow all the way up until the 2021 season, when his yards-per-catch averages dropped sharply paired up with Carson Wentz. Still, Pascal remained a quality performer with inside-out versatility, good pass-blocking abilities, and ultimately finished out the 2021-22 season with the second-most receiving yards on the Colts behind only 2020 second-round selected Michael Pittman Jr. What if they roll into the second round without draft position-appropriate options and have to wait until the third round for a wide receiver who maybe isn’t ready to start at the X and/or slot spot right out of the gate? No, but hey, when two of those three draftees are Jalen Reagor and JJ Arcega-Whiteside, a pair of players who very well could find themselves in a different uniform come September, it’s better to use additional assets on getting it right than rolling into yet another season with an understocked collection of pass-catchers.
