He is due a $16.2 million base salary in 2022. Ryan is the Falcons’ franchise leader with 59,735 passing yards and 367 passing touchdowns. Person of the Day
Indianapolis is acquiring veteran QB Matt Ryan from Atlanta for a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom ...
Evidently, an offer of a third-round pick was enough for the Falcons to move on from Ryan, their most dependable player on their roster. Despite the upcoming class of quarterbacks lacking true impact player power, it's fair to believe the Falcons might also spend their first-round pick in April on a quarterback. Earlier this month in Indianapolis at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, Atlanta's leadership duo of Smith and general manager Terry Fontenot were remarkably noncommittal when it came to Ryan in 2022.
Initial thoughts, stats and analysis on the blockbuster Matt Ryan trade from the Atlanta Falcons to the Indianapolis Colts.
I don't expect Ryan to rediscover his past form, but for the Colts this is just a bid for status quo, which is fine given the overall state of the roster and the state of their division. Getting a better pick would be nice, but they get to start the rebuild a year early and can get a high pick next year in a better QB draft without obviously tanking. In fact, with Manning, it was more expected than with Luck. With Luck, the win might come via a late bomb, or him providing a crushing block on a sweep, or him picking up a fumble and diving in the EZ for the score. When they traded Julio, Ryan was the last member of their 2016 SB core remaining, and they didn't have much of a chance of competing, so why didn't they rip off the band-aid then, with the #4 pick in a QB-heavy draft? It's not like they were picking 30th like the Packers. They were straight up 4th overall with Ryan starting every game and not making a PB in 5 years. If they wanted to have Ryan as a vet in front of a rookie QB that would make sense but seems unlikely given the whole "no first rounder" thing. Lots of annoyance among Falcons fans that the team could only get a 3rd for Ryan, but I just don't think there was much of a market. And the financial cost was low--basically trading Wentz for Ryan and a pick--salaries are about the same. ) But it pains me to say that I can say the same about Cousins. Would Indy have made the AFCCG in his 3rd year? That was the big win for the Colts in the trade. And don't forget that Moon was a rookie at the age of 28. He had such an amazing touch and feel for the game as a rookie that I was extremely high about his future.
The Matt Ryan era in Atlanta came to an abrupt end on Monday when the Falcons dealt the former franchise quarterback for a third-round pick.
Winning a Super Bowl with the Colts should cement Ryan’s legacy as a great quarterback one who deserves to be in Hall. Ryan’s accomplishments speak for themselves when you look at what the quarterback has accomplished with a historically losing franchise. The Matt Ryan era in Atlanta came to an abrupt end on Monday when the Falcons dealt the former franchise quarterback for a third-round pick.
The Jacksonville Jaguars' AFC South archrival, the Indianapolis Colts, just traded for Matt Ryan, which makes their 2022 matchups must-watch TV.
The Colts didn’t have a first-round pick and the 2022 draft and without many enticing options in the open market, it was uncertain what route they would take to address their quarterback situation. The Jacksonville Jaguars knocked the Indianapolis Colts out of playoff contention and put an unceremonious end to the Carson Wentz era in Week 18 of the 2021 season. Out of Boston College, he was the first overall pick in the 2008 draft and leaves Atlanta after completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 59,735 yards with 367 touchdowns and 170 interceptions.
The Atlanta Falcons traded Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts on Monday in exchange for a 2022 third-round draft pick, sources told ESPN.
His first pass was a touchdown -- 62 yards to Michael Jenkins -- and he ended up as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2008. The Falcons had hoped he would be the next franchise quarterback following Michael Vick, whom the team moved on from following a dogfighting scandal that sent him to prison. Ryan, meanwhile, made it clear in January he hoped to stay with the club for his 15th season -- something he'd said each time he'd been asked about it for months. The Colts were desperate for a quarterback after they traded Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders for third-round picks in 2022 and 2023. Watson ended up waiving his no-trade clause to go to the Cleveland Browns, but it also put the Falcons in a position where it had to publicly seek out a succession plan for Ryan. The Colts have been looking for a long-term answer since Andrew Luck retired in August 2019.
The Atlanta Falcons dealt Matt Ryan to the Colts in exchange for a third-round pick. A pick that does little to off-set the.
Indianapolis will now become a consideration for the top remaining free agents including some familiar faces that could be looking to team back up with Matt Ryan. The quarterback was sent to the Colts in exchange for a third-rounder which is a bit shocking when you look around the league and consider all the blockbuster trades that have happened around lesser quarterbacks. Atlanta’s inability to get even a second-round pick while taking on the biggest dead-cap hit in league history makes this trade a slam dunk for the Colts. The Colts get a franchise quarterback and a leader while the Falcons get a third-rounder and a terrible cap situation.
Those questions have now been answered by the Falcons, who have struck a deal with the Colts to send the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback to Indy as the 2022 ...
Rumor has it Mayfield was eyeing the Colts as his top landing spot, but having landed Ryan, will it now push Mayfield to Atlanta ... or Seattle ... and, if it's the latter, would Lock then find his way to the former?? Ryan leaves the Falcons after spending 14 seasons with the team, joining them as the league's third overall pick in 2008, racking up 59,735 passing yards and 367 touchdowns to 170 interceptions. Matt Ryan is on his way to a new NFL home as the Indianapolis Colts ready to roll out the red carpet for his arrival. The two sides have reportedly been in talks with the Colts ever since hearing news of Watson's decision, if not a bit before, but there was much to hash out in the negotiations. Making things a bit more complex in this trade was the fact the Colts weren't the only suitors for Ryan, with La Canfora also noting the Seattle Seahawks were working to win the race for the former NFL MVP. The Seahawks are hot off of their own NFL blockbuster, namely the trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a package that included quarterback Drew Lock, and it would be interesting to see if Lock is sent to the Falcons, originally penciled in publicly as QB1 for next season but, in actuality, becoming yet another potential asset to include in a subsequent trade. Those questions have now been answered by the Falcons, who have struck a deal with the Colts to send the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback to Indy as the 2022 replacement for Carson Wentz in exchange for a 2022 third-round pick, CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed.
The Indianapolis Colts are acquiring quarterback Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2022 third round pick.
The Atlanta Falcons have made a terrible mistake by trading Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for next to nothing. This was a horrendous decision.
They just traded Matt Ryan for a player who in all likelihood will be a depth piece for whatever position they decide to use the pick on. Quarterbacks are valuable, but obviously, the Atlanta Falcons do not think that as they have traded their greatest quarterback in franchise history to the Colts, in exchange for a third-round pick………. Then you look at what the Rams gave up for Matt Stafford, who did not have the pedigree that Matt Ryan has right now.
The Colts have made the move to acquire veteran quarterback Matt Ryan in a trade. Will this acquisition hurt the Colts' ability to attack down the field?
While on the move, Ryan is able to stop, reset his feet, and fire an accurate pass down the field for a big gain. While he is far from a perfect player at the stage of his career, he is not limited in any way that could hurt the offense. He is, however, a type that can be agile in the pocket and break out of a few sacks. The call is a simple double move, and Patterson is able to create separation with ease down the field. Even when he can't step into his throws, he can still get the ball down the field. Ryan isn't as mobile or as strong as Carson Wentz, but he is certainly a step above Philip Rivers in those departments. These stats tell us that there really shouldn't be too much of a drop-off from Wentz to Ryan in the deep passing game. Ryan sees this and lofts a beautiful deep ball to his open target. To properly assess how Matt Ryan performed on deeper throws in 2021, let's compare him to the quarterback that the Colts just shipped out. Ryan also had an average of 2.90 seconds to throw on these attempts. This move is eerily similar to when the team brought in Philip Rivers back in 2020. The biggest concern with acquiring a player like this is if the arm talent will be enough to promote big plays on offense.
The Falcons seemed ready to run it back with Matt Ryan, then went public with a desire to chase Deshaun Watson ... which put the handwriting on the wall in ...
It was an unenviable position for a rookie quarterback to be in, replacing a star player who remains one of the more popular (and polarizing) figures in Atlanta. Ryan didn't complain last year about a lack of options when Julio Jones was traded and then Calvin Ridley missed three-quarters of the season. He never made an issue about the lack of protection he had the past four years, even if it came at his own personal safety and the success of the team around him. Ryan was always professional and appeared to do and say the right thing. Then the Falcons became one of four teams chasing Watson and everything became public and a little messy and complicated. He remains a player who can win and someone whom a team can count on. Remembering Ryan in Atlanta will be not quite as straightforward as it might seem, though. I really think that we're going to make improvements this offseason and continue to grow as a team and be better than we were this year." I am optimistic, I really am, and I want to be here and I feel good about this group of guys, this coaching staff, everybody, and the direction that it's going. Four straight losing seasons -- the Falcons have not been over .500 at any point since the 2017 season concluded with a playoff bid -- put Atlanta in this position. On Monday, it was accelerated further as Ryan was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a third-round pick. It was the end of an era and sent the Falcons into an unknown future.
Colts send third-round pick to Atlanta in exchange for QB · 36-year-old led Falcons to Super Bowl appearance in 2016 season.
Elsewhere in the NFC South on Monday, the New Orleans Saints reportedly re-signed Jameis Winston on a two-year deal. Later on Monday, they announced they had signed former Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota to a two-year deal. “The leadership, the real leadership that goes on behind the scenes.
Thanks to a phone call from the Houston Texans, the Atlanta Falcons might've pushed Matt Ryan out the door.
Since being drafted No. 3 overall in 2008, Ryan has been the epitome of what it means to represent a franchise. It's why the calls were coming in. Ryan hasn't spoke publicly on the Watson issue, but it hasn't stopped his wife, Sarah, from venting her frustrating. It made one to Watson, a native of Gainesville who grew up building a relationship with the organziation. The Seattle Seahawks might've be another. The Indianapolis Colts were one.
Indianapolis traded a third-round pick on Monday to the Falcons to get Ryan, a source told IndyStar; the former MVP and franchise icon Atlanta was ready to give ...
But Rivers retired after one season, and the Colts tried a different tack, trading first-and third-round picks to Philadelphia for Wentz, a former No. 2 pick the Eagles thought was going to be their franchise quarterback until a disastrous 2020 season. By playing in Reich’s offense, Ryan might also be able to improve some of his weaknesses. Another former No. 1 pick, Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield, was interested in the Colts after requesting a trade from the Browns, but a league source indicated that Indianapolis did not reach out about Mayfield. Indianapolis first turned to Jacoby Brissett out of necessity, then upgraded to Philip Rivers in the hopes that the long-time Chargers legend would give them two years to find the franchise quarterback the team covets. Wentz struggled in both of those areas last season. Even at 37, the Colts believe Ryan is physically still the same guy he's always been, and that there hasn't been much drop-off in his game.
Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons seem increasingly likely to part ways considering the team chose to chase Deshaun Watson this off-season instead of.
Looking at team assets and who can afford to trade for Ryan and give the Falcons something valuable in return four clear teams emerge. Ryan is going to have to agree to any potential trade to waive his no-trade clause. If Ryan does want a trade things can get a bit tricky for both sides in this deal.
A decision on Matt Ryan's future in Atlanta will come today. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that the Falcons have fielded trade ...
The Falcons and Colts, however, have made progress in their trade discussions, according to Rapoport, and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo added that many around the league would be surprised if a trade doesn't happen. Feleipe Franks is the only other QB on the roster, so if the Falcons were to trade Ryan, it would leave a massive hole along with the big dead-money cap hit. But given how professionally Ryan handled the past few weeks, he'd deserve a little added cash for his troubles.
The Indianapolis Colts have emerged as the most likely landing spot for quarterback Matt Ryan if the Atlanta Falcons trade him, according to Ian Rapoport of ...
The Falcons have a decision to make with Ryan given that he’s due a $7.5 million roster bonus. What the trade compensation will look like isn’t clear. While this doesn’t come as much of a surprise, it does give some clarity to the situation.
Another big-name quarterback trade hit the wire on Monday, with the Colts acquiring longtime Falcons standout Matt Ryan in exchange for a 2022 third-round ...
Let's be clear up front: the Falcons aren't wrong to move on from Ryan at this stage of his career, and this stage of their rebuild. His arrival, meanwhile, underscores the shortsighted but still-admirable turn of events at QB here: a year after trading first- and third-round picks for Wentz, Indy essentially flipped Wentz for two thirds, and has now replaced him with Ryan for one of those picks. Another big-name quarterback trade hit the wire on Monday, with the Colts acquiring longtime Falcons standout Matt Ryan in exchange for a 2022 third-round draft pick.

But it will be an uphill battle, as it always is, to finally win a ring. The AFC will not be an easy conference to come out of, however. Indianapolis would probably like to pick up an additional receiver or two to help him out, but otherwise they are a pretty complete team.
NFL sources confirmed to Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein that Matt Ryan has played his final game for the Falcons.
“This move is another step in that and we’re looking forward to the future.” “Matt Ryan has been the epitome of a franchise quarterback,” team owner Arthur Blank said. Loss for words. Third rounder for Matty Ice? I’m done. I’m at a loss for words. Matty Ice for a third rounder?
Matt Ryan just became the latest big-name quarterback to switch teams, as the Falcons agreed to trade the longtime franchise face to the Colts.
He hasn't lost his downfield ability, which is usually the first thing to go for aging QBs. At worst, he's a mid-level starter who can deftly run an offense. Ryan is in decline, but the 2016 NFL MVP can still make all the throws when protected. The general manager is shooting for the moon with a veteran signal-caller for the third straight offseason.
