New releases to look forward to in the coming months, from Porridge Radio, Destroyer, Father John Misty, Tomberlin, Aldous Harding, Ibeyi, Kurt Vile, ...
The Rochester, New York death metal band is notorious for its gore-laden lyrics, heavy riffs, and a proclivity for goofing off, and the band succeeded in delivering on all fronts with its 2020 debut Lesions of a Different Kind. On their new full-length It’s Time…To Rise From the Grave, Undeath seem to be headed in that same direction, as the use of the necronomicon and dueling guitar solos in their “Rise From the Grave” music video suggest. Produced by the band, Diaspora Problems already has two singles: the relentless “Jump!! (Or Get Jumped!!!)((By the Future))” and the Mother Maryrose–featuring “Driponomics.” It’s Soul Glo’s first full-length LP since releasing The Nigga in Me Is Me in 2019 and follows their debut EP on Epitaph from last year, as well as their 2020 breakout EP Songs to Yeet at the Sun. –Nina Corcoran Her first single as a lead artist since 2017 didn’t arrive until 2020, when she dropped the Neptunes-produced “Hit Different” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) and “Good Days.” Earlier that year, she insinuated that Top Dawg Entertainment had been holding up the release of her new music, and, in 2021, SZA self-released three tracks—“Nightbird,” “Joni,” and “I Hate You”— via an anonymous SoundCloud account. The Spanish Town, Jamaica–raised dancehall and reggae singer erupted onto the scene as a teenager three years ago with her sweet-sounding breakout single “Toast” and the warm vibes of her EP Rapture. Now 22, Koffee’s official debut Gifted is due this month, and the singer looks to continue to weave lyrics that comment on Jamaica’s sociopolitical issues with catchy hooks and rhythms that are perfect to groove to. Grimes discussed her forthcoming LP—and some other things—in a recent chat with Vanity Fair. According to the interview, Grimes’ 15-track “fairycore” album is set in the distant future, and contains as yet unreleased tracks like “Marie Antoinette 2077,” “100% Tragedy,” and “Sci-Fi,” which she wrote with the Weeknd and his producer Illangelo. –Madison Bloom It’s happened again and again, from mega hit singles like “WAP” and “Up” to memorable guest features on Normani’s “Wild Side” and Lizzo’s “Rumors.” There are almost no details out there about what her next album will sound like or when it will arrive, but it will probably be the soundtrack of a week or a month or a year. The first, Fear of the Dawn, features the single “Taking Me Back,” which made its debut in conjunction with a Call of Duty promotional campaign. Frontman Grian Chatten has said their forthcoming LP Skinty Fia—which draws its name from an old Irish cuss word that translates to “the damnation of the deer”—is informed by the distinct experience of Irishness in England, the way prejudice and mistrust can shape and mutate people and culture. The Chicago indie-rock trio will have more of that to offer on Blue Skies, the outfit’s third album, when it’s out in late May. On lead single “Bad Love,” vocalist Emily Kempf sings about the decision to stop aligning herself with people who don’t bring out the best in her and, instead chase “a relationship with oneself rather than an unhealthy one [with someone else.]” The follow-up to 2020’s Flower of Devotion was recorded by Dehd and saw the band working with mixing engineer Craig Silvey and mastering engineer Heba Kadry for the first time. Preceded by the harmonica-emblazoned rock’n’roll of “Unnecessary Drama,” the new album is the septet’s first to be recorded in its native Glasgow since 1999. Alpha Games, the sixth album from Bloc Party and their first since releasing Hymns in 2016, is billed as a return to form for the band. New Zealand folk singer-songwriter Aldous Harding will release her fourth LP, Warm Chris, at the end of March. The 10-track album is produced by John Parish (who also produced Harding’s last album, 2019’s Designer) and is led by the hypnotic “Lawn,” which arrived with a surreal black-and-white video.

State fair egg rolls and Vietnamese fare in St. Paul, Detroit style pizza at Lyn-Lake, and peach cobbler in downtown Minneapolis — here are some of spring's ...
Boludo has been teasing the new opening in a series of social media posts, so check Instagram for updates — but expect an opening in April, says the Star Tribune. He’s also a former Broadway actor — and the Shroom Room will also be a venue for live music and entertainment. Kalsada will open around mid-April, says the Community Reporter — and Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal has the full story. Among them are a modern Filipino restaurant serving caldo and lumpiang shanghai on Selby Avenue; a music venue and restaurant hybrid with food and drinks made from wild and foraged foods; and an expanded pizza and empanada spot in south Minneapolis. Here are some of the most exciting new restaurants opening around the Cities this spring. Abrams bakes with a mission: she’s partnering with a few local nonprofits to give young people and formerly incarcerated men the chance to work at Lutunji’s, and learn business and baking skills. Jason Hansen and Peter Sebastian, owners of southern European restaurant Estelle in St. Paul, are opening a pizza restaurant in the former Tillie’s space on Cleveland Avenue. Chef Evan Vranian, who has worked in local kitchens at Sooki and Mimi, Tilia, Spoon and Stable, and Surly, will lead the kitchen. Look for lumpiang shanghai (meaty Filipino-style egg rolls), caldo (a Filipino congee typically made with chicken and rice), and a full bar with cocktails. (Her desserts are available at Lunds and Byerlys across the metro, and other grocery stores.) The new location, opening May 1, is a major expansion from her former kitchens. The new space, owned by Maria Nyugen and Brianna Le, was formerly a used book store — it’ll have restrooms decorated with phoenix and dragon themes, a full cocktail menu, and a bakery case. Known and loved for its state fair egg rolls — crispy and humongous and served, as it goes, on a stick — chef Dat Le of Que Viet is opening Em Que Viet in St. Paul. The latest addition to the Que Viet restaurants, which Le owns with his wife Lauren Le, the new location will offer traditional Vietnamese dishes like banh xeo, stuffed rice pancakes. (Its local tribute, “Sotalicious,” features beef casserole, tater tots, and two well-placed pickle spears wrapped in ham.) Chef Jeffrey Howard Rogers plans to create a mini food hall at the new space on Lake Street, to help incubate new food businesses — Wrecktangle will also have an expanded menu and make use of a smoker, reports the Star Tribune. Though an opening date hasn’t been announced, Wrecktangle is hiring in earnest as of mid-March. But Que Viet’s egg rolls, folklorically voted best egg rolls in Minnesota, will remain at the heart of the menu.
A new brewery and distillery, hotel rooftop bar, and more on the seafood boil front are just a few options for Detroit to look forward to in 2022.
This casual dining spot is among a number of forthcoming projects from chef Maxcel Hardy. Rosemary will offer seating for 25 in a historical plaza alongside Red Jazz Shoe Shine Parlor in the North End. As the name suggests, Rosemary will be the focus of many of the menu items, including the rosemary and garlic chicken, garlic and herb-roasted vegetables, garlic truffle fries, blackened salmon, and rosemary and garlic bourbon steak. Famous for its fried chicken, spaghetti, peach-mango pie, and family bucket meals, Michigan’s first location is expected to open this summer inside a former Denny’s near Hall Road. Construction of the 2,500-square-foot space was set to begin in January 2022 and is expected to employ about 75 workers. For nightlife, a rooftop bar called Cielo Detroit is expected to launch in spring 2023 or when weather permits, the lobby bar, Beve Detroit, will feature local brews and tapas, and a yet-to-be named speakeasy will launch next year. The 1,800-square-foot former liquor store is named after “Pops,” the space’s former owner and a well-known fixture in the area, who recently died from COVID-19. His sons sold the building, and Detroit Rising Development is now using the property to offer a quick pit stop for coffee from James Oliver Coffee, donuts, bagels, and more. The operators behind Grey Ghost and Second Best bar, both in Brush Park, are working to open an izakaya-inspired spot, Basan, near Little Caesars Arena. Named after a mythological fire-breathing fowl, Basan will emphasize the Japanese fireside cooking method — robatayaki (or robata) izakaya. The forthcoming Cambria Hotel in downtown will feature a few new food and drink options. Founded in 1978 in the Philippines, Jollibee has gone on to enjoy wild success since the fast-food chain began expanding stateside. Now, she’s working to open a restaurant called Paradise Deli and Marketplace, featuring groceries, plant-forward grab-and-go options, a cafe, nutrition classes, and a ghost kitchen. The hotel, set in the former home of WWJ Radio, will feature 158 hotel rooms. In a 5,000-square-foot space, Trumbull Brewing and Distillery will produce beer, cider, wine, and spirits on-site. Alongside Cibo, a third location for the fast casual Detroit Taco Company is supposed to open in late fall. pandemic seems to be showing signs of slowing and that means many long-anticipated metro Detroit restaurant openings are getting that much closer to fruition.

We're going to try to get all these guys stretched out in a similar fashion." The manager previously started that Mills (out of options) is going to have a shot at being a starter. Ross added that the veteran lefty will be in games "soon," but the Cubs are taking a conservative approach to his throwing program as they monitor data and get Miley's feedback. In general, we're really just trying to give him that runway he needs." As things stand, they are positioned to be the candidates for the Opening Day nod. The reality for Chicago (and every other team) is that pitchers will not be fully stretched out when camp breaks this spring.
