SAN DIEGO, CA - It was a battle, but Arizona Basketball (33-3, 18-2) came away with the thrilling overtime win over TCU (21-13, 8-10).
Arizona would start the game a bit flat, falling behind 8-0 early on. And Arizona Basketball needed all 45 minutes of its basketball action on Sunday evening to come away with the thrilling, 85-80 overtime win. Some people were not pleased with how the Arizona Wildcats basketball players handled the team's postgame celebration.
It also tweeted that "Kerr Kriisa just mockingly joined in on the TCU Alma Mater holding up a Horned Frog hand sign. It tweeted this message with the video: "Rather than celebrating with their team and bench, Wildcat players immediately ran over to the TCU fan base waving goodbye and blowing kisses. Disgusting display of sportsmanship."
Arizona only lost three games all season, but its weaknesses could show in its next game against Houston in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
I mean, I want our guys to bring extra. And so I want them to bring extra. The grit and toughness and the teams on our side of the bracket, it's pretty formidable." I want them to be participants, not observers." "We deserved to win that game and we didn’t win," Miles said. "The story of this game is just our toughness, how hard we play and defense," Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said afterward. I'm trying to get my staff and myself to bring extra. The Wildcats could be a team that finds ways to win even when they let their guard down and play a little sloppy. The No. 5 seed Cougars (31-5) turned on the pressure again Sunday when they held No. 4 seed Illinois to 34% shooting in a 68-53 win. And we haven’t had a big guy do that to us all year. The relentless Cougars also lead the nation in field-goal percentage defense, having held opponents to only 37.5% shooting. They didn’t call it."
No. 1 seed Arizona outlasted No. 9 seed TCU in an 85-80 overtime victory that could have been one of the classic games of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
"And the challenge now is to handle it the right way after this loss." Both teams had a chance to win the game in overtime, but it was Arizona who got the job done. Regardless of the explanation, the Wildcats had a split second more to try to convert their final shot. That would have caused more chaos and controversy at the end of this contest. "I mean, I think everybody’s seen it and is talking about it," Dixon said of the no-call. TCU had the ball with just under 13 seconds left on the clock in a 75-all tie.
All season long, Arizona beat the brakes off of opponents en route to a 30-win campaign, Pac-12 regular-season and tournament titles and a No.
The Wildcats already have plenty of talent, and that has never been an issue. Instead, the Wildcats tied the game when Mathurin launched from well beyond the 3-point line on a possession that appeared to be going nowhere. With only five games coming down to two possessions or fewer this season, Arizona got very few crunch-time reps — and none in scenarios that could have ended its season. The Wildcats topped No. 9 seed TCU 85-80 in overtime thanks to a game-tying 3-pointer by Bennedict Mathurin late in regulation and a possible foul on the Horned Frogs' final possession that went uncalled. All season long, Arizona beat the brakes off of opponents en route to a 30-win campaign, Pac-12 regular-season and tournament titles and a No. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats racked up 30-point wins left and right, even well into conference play. Down late in regulation, Arizona needed an unlikely comeback to avoid a major upset.
Yahoo Sports columnist Dan Wetzel surmised his confusion over the play on Twitter: “What exactly is or isn't a foul is a mystery.”
“The official closest to the play should not advance in the tournament. “Stunned there were not multiple replays of the most important play of the game,” Fraschilla posted. One replay of the collision was played but with commercials and replays of Terry’s near game-ending dunk — which was correctly not counted — at the buzzer was also requiring replay time.
The TCU Horned Frogs had reason to gripe Sunday after an overtime loss to the Arizona Wildcats in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
But you know what, there was nothing wrong with that going to overtime and having to play another five minutes and find a way.” Dalen was at the top of the key with a second to go. What the heck, 10 seconds to go in the game, let’s throw a trap on him and see what happens. I was scared when Coach asked us … because I knew he was going to try to get at me and try to get a foul,” Koloko said. That’s what we wanted to do and it worked.” And we wanted to trap him.
Debate over the final few moments of regulation ensued on social media in the aftermath of Arizona's win over TCU on Sunday.
"We deserved to win that game," he told reporters after the game. … We’ll defer to — we’ve got the best officials in the country working these games." "We’re going to handle it the right way.

And Dixon was a part of that as well. TCU was playing with the top team in the nation in prime time in March Madness, and had them beat. Dixon was a starter on that TCU team that lost to Notre Dame, 58-57, in the second round of the 1987 NCAA Tournament. TCU is the only school in a Power 5 conference that could celebrate this type of devastating loss. TCU played with arguably the best team in the nation, and just got beat. Arizona hit a 3-pointer to tie it, and made the necessary plays in the final minute of overtime to win, 85-80.
Arizona outlasted ninth-seeded TCU 85-80 on Sunday night in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The only loss was to Wisconsin in 2000. O’Bannon scored the first five points and Miles had the last four. Arizona will face Houston for the first time since 2009. “This season was everything for us because we weren’t even expected to be here. That was a real sprained ankle. Chuck O’Bannon Jr. had a career-high 23 points for TCU (21-13) while Mike Miles Jr. and Eddie Lampkin Jr. had 20 apiece. Right when he snapped that 3 off to tie it, it was pretty impressive.” Mathurin, the Pac-12 Player of the Year and a second-team AP All-American selection, finished with 30 points. “That’s not the first time we were down. I knew he was going to shoot a 3. They advanced to Thursday’s South Region semifinals in San Antonio, Texas, where they will face fifth-seeded Houston. And I was emotional.”
