The Cleveland Browns are expected to trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday.
Rapoport reported that the Falcons will turn their attention to longtime starter and former AP NFL Most Valuable Player Matt Ryan to make him feel wanted as he considers his options. Jameis Winston opened the season as the starter under center but a torn ACL ended his year early, forcing Payton to shuffle between Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian and Ian Book in New Orleans' first season in 16 years without future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. A potential Winston-Saints reunion now is something to monitor in New Orleans. The Panthers, who have been involved in Watson trade discussions for more than a year, will now move forward with a QB room that features Sam Darnold and P. J. Walker.
The former quarterback of the Houston Texans missed last season as he faced a criminal investigation and lawsuits involving sexual misconduct.
He is not part of the Browns’ trade package but is expected to be moved to another team. Watson also sought to have his compensation guaranteed by his new team, but the Browns went a step further, giving Watson a new and fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract, a person with direct knowledge of the terms of the deal confirmed. League investigators were waiting for a resolution in the criminal cases to interview Watson but have already spoken to several of the women who filed complaints against him.
Friday's big news is Deshaun Watson is being traded to the Cleveland Browns for three first round picks, along with other compensation from the Browns, and in ...
Now it is time to wait to see what happens next, but for Deshaun Watson he’s made history with his new team before even taking the field. This is a win for the Texans because of all the draft capital they are being reported to be receiving will change the path of the franchise moving forward. The reigning AFC Champions are already in the North, being the Cincinnati Bengals as they have Joe Burrow as their starting quarterback, and the Baltimore Ravens have Lamar Jackson under center as their top quarterback.
The Texans traded Deshaun Watson to the Browns in exchange for three first-round picks as well as a fourth- and fifth-round pick.
But in Week 2 of last season, he suffered a torn labrum in his non-throwing left shoulder and struggled the rest of the way. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which will pay him $19 million in 2022. The first lawsuit against Watson was filed in March 2021, and he was a healthy scratch for all 17 games last season while being paid his $10.54 million base salary. Watson did not play last season after an offseason request to be traded and the emergence of 22 lawsuits against him alleging sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage sessions. "Our priority right now is adding talented players to the foundation we have already put in place over the last 15 months and this trade supports that plan," Caserio said. Watson's move to the Browns opens up the chance for quarterback Baker Mayfield to find a new team.

The Browns will send three first-round picks (one in each of the next three drafts), a 2023 third-round selection and a 2024 fourth-round choice to the Texans for Watson and a 2024 fifth-round pick, a source said. That transformation will also include the addition of former Seahawk Quinton Jefferson, who told NFL reporter Josina Anderson that he’s agreed with Seattle on a two-year, $9.5 million deal that can be worth up to $11 million. Now the Browns will host his re-entry into the league, as Watson chose Cleveland as his trade destination on Friday — a surprising development, considering the Browns had been informed that they were eliminated from consideration just one day prior.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Deshaun Watson will be the next quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are giving Watson a five-year $230 million dollar ...
Let him prove himself to see what he is or what he may not be for Cleveland Browns and that’s it.” Watson did not play last season after an offseason request to be traded plus the emergence of the 22 lawsuits against him alleging sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage sessions. I think that between Nick Chubb, Amari Cooper, and him, we’re Super Bowl contenders now and I feel very good about our chances now.” “Unless it’s been proven I don’t think that we can hold that against him,” said Berry. “It’s just not a fair thing to do so just like everything else and everybody else that we do here in Cleveland, give him a chance. “I think that it’s not up to us to make that decision right now,” said Neeley. “I don’t think we know all the facts right now, but I feel like for us as a playing football team, it makes us a lot better, but hey if he has to live up to expectations in the league then we have to live with those.” “I do know that Watson’s got the 22 cases of sexual assault, which 22 women probably aren’t wrong,” admitted Brown’s fan, Patrick Fayn. “But you know the game in the NFL if someone else would’ve got him so I think the Browns are thinking if someone else would’ve got Deshaun Watson they’re gonna let him play so why not us, it’s certainly split both ways in terms of he’s a good player but he definitely sexually assaulted women.”
I was in the middle of writing an editorial piece on Baker Mayfield and Browns' free agency when the surprising tweet was made by Ian Rapoport of the NFL ...
Two teams rumored to have been interested in Mayfield are the Seattle Seahawks, after having dealt Russell Wilson away, and the Indianapolis Colts, who shipped Carson Wentz away. Cleveland will also work on a deal to trade Mayfield now too, although the team figures to get peanuts in return for him, comparatively speaking. Per Rapoport, the Browns are giving Watson a fully guaranteed 5-year contract worth $230 million.

Houston also has four other selections from the Browns, including first-round selections in 2023 and ‘24, along with a third-round selection in 2023 and a fourth-round pick in ’24. Watson is scheduled to play against the Texans when Cleveland travels to Houston for the upcoming season. Even though he was not criminally charged, Watson also will likely face some type of discipline or suspension from the NFL. Securing a franchise QB is why Green Bay backed up the Brinks truck to pay Aaron Rodgers and the Denver Broncos traded away multiple first-round picks to secure the services of Russell Wilson. Several QBs who have won games in the NFL remain on the free-agent market, including former top-five picks Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and Cam Newton. According to reports, the Texans traded Watson to the Browns for three first-round picks, a third-rounder and a fourth-round selection.
