The Packers are sending Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
The non-exclusive tag meant Adams could still talk to and negotiate with other teams, but the Packers had the right to match any deal offered. The Packers placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Adams on March 8. Essentially, the two players were not necessarily considered a package deal for Green Bay. It was Adams’ desire to play for the Raiders and with Carr that ultimately led to the trade. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal details about the move. Adams receives a contract worth $141.25 million over five years, for an average of $28.25 million, NFL Network reported.
In a blockbuster trade, the Raiders are acquiring Davante Adams from the Packers for two 2022 draft picks, including their first-rounder, sources told ESPN.
So Adams played out the season and had perhaps his best year, setting the single-season franchise record for catches (123) and receiving yards (1,553) last season. Adams was never going to play in the franchise tag, and late last season he chose his words carefully when discussing the possibility, saying at the time: "I'm not sure how to answer that safely right now. Adams' trade to the Raiders ends the most successful quarterback-receiver partnership in Packers' history. They also put the second-round tender on restricted free agent receiver Allen Lazard. Randall Cobb also returned to the Packers but with a massive pay cut from $7.875 to $2.075 million. They have not drafted a receiver in the first round since 2002, when they picked Javon Walker at No. 20 overall. Two of the receivers in their rotation last year are free agents: deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown. The Bears signed St. Brown on Thursday, but now the Packers have cap space to bring back Valdes-Scantling if they choose.
Davante Adams is now a Las Vegas Raider. How might his old team look to replace his production in the passing game? Here are some options.
It is hard to replace a receiver such as Adams in the passing game. If the Packers address receiver early in this draft, do not be surprised if a Buckeye finds their way to Lambeau Field. Both players are explosive athletes, with the ability to create big plays in the passing game. Given, however, what the Packers do on offense, any desire to add a receiver early in the draft might see the Green Bay brain trust spend next Wednesday in lovely Columbus, Ohio. Then there is what Woods brings to the table for the running game. For years, analysts have been speculating that the Packers would use an early-round selection on a wide receiver. Whether adding veterans who might be past their prime but still have something left in the tank, or younger players who never quite panned out for one reason or another, there is often great value to be found in this period of the NFL calendar. Green Bay also placed a second-round tender on Lazard, likely insuring that he returns to green and gold for the next season. Whether Valdes-Scantling returns or not, you can expect a bigger role for Lazard in the Packers’ passing game. Adams, after informing Green Bay that he would not play this season under the franchise tag, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a pair of early-round selections. It is a big reason the Rodgers-Adams connection was so formidable, as the two knew exactly what the other was thinking. A big debate in Packers Twitter at the moment is the idea of trust.
Adams should also be happy knowing he will now be the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. Here's a breakdown of how much the five-time Pro Bowler will ...
"They were willing to compete, if not go higher than what the Raiders did on the contract, but this was about Davante Adams wanting to be in Las Vegas, back with his old college teammate, Derek Carr. It turns out Rodgers knew Adams would never play for the Packers again as Rodgers was negotiating his contract. Here's a breakdown of how much the five-time Pro Bowler will earn.
The Green Bay Packers will find a talented receiver to replace Davante Adams. What that player won't have, and might never have, is the wink-and-nod ...
“It caught me off-guard when he texted me that the other day,” Adams said, “because I feel like what we don’t do enough as men in general is express the way we feel about one another or about the way he feels, whether it’s good or bad. He did exactly what I would have wanted to tell him but there wasn’t even a signal that could’ve even come close to the beauty and the creativity of that route. I really feel like he’s the best player I’ve played with, and I said that to him the other night, actually. Adams became the first player in NFL history with 115-plus catches, 1,350-plus receiving yards and 11-plus receiving touchdowns in back-to-back seasons. It’s a lot of pointless things that you may never use it, it may just be a waste of five minutes of time, but I’d rather be prepared and be ready for that moment just in case it comes.” Rodgers won MVPs in 2014, 2020 and 2021 and the Packers advanced to NFC Championship Games in 2014, 2016, 2019 and 2020. Rodgers famously put the game away with his “I own you” touchdown run, but that play wouldn’t have happened without a 41-yard completion to Adams. While Adams was blessed to grow and mature alongside Rodgers, Rodgers was blessed to have a go-to star like Adams. Adams is talented, yes, but he took note of how Jordy Nelson and Rodgers worked together and wanted to form that same two-as-one harmony. You’ve obviously got to be ready but there are certain times where I’ll be looking through the game plan and I’ll see a certain play and I’ll be like, ‘You know, that play may not work, but we may be putting it in for a certain audible off of that play.’ So, I start training my brain in that moment: What are certain things he would want to get to if we get Cover 0, if we got Cover 1? When I looked over at him on the left, I was almost going to give him a signal to make sure we are on the same page, but something – intuition, whatever – said don’t do it. “On the touchdown to break the record, his was a really freelance route. Rodgers is a four-time MVP and one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Davante Adams will get the lucrative long-term deal he's long sought, but it will be coming from the Raiders instead of the Packers.
The presence of Adams is going to create even more pain for the division's defenses. That won't be an easy task as he starts dealing with the obvious salary cap challenges associated with having a long run of success. 3) Chiefs GM Brett Veach: As happy as Hill has to be with this Adams news, the opposite should be said of Veach. He's trying to keep his team contending for a championship in a loaded division that has gotten much stronger in a matter of days. Green Bay was aiming to finally return to the Super Bowl this coming season. If that doesn't happen, then his quarterback is going to get irritated real quick. The upside is that Gutekunst scored a first-round (No. 22 overall) and second-round pick (No. 53) in return, and there's more cap room down the road to improve this team.
Now that the Packers QB seemingly has some organizational pull, he can no longer bundle this move into a criticism of the front office if things go south.
He could roll his eyes and mutter something about the stubbornness of the front office suits when asked about Adams. He could be the world’s most skilled double agent in that regard. The difference between now and any other time in Packers history is that Rodgers isn’t able to bundle the loss of Adams into some rolling grievance against the organization when the season goes south, which he has skillfully done in the past. It is clear they wanted him badly, while the Packers seemed to want him badly at the correct price and structure.
ESPN's Adam Schefter cites league sources that the Packers will get two draft picks for the All-Pro wide receiver.
Adams is coming off his second consecutive 1st Team All-Pro season, setting the Packers single-season records for catches (123) and receiving yards (1,553). He and Rodgers connected for 68 touchdowns in their 8 seasons together, the most prolific TD combo in team history. Rodgers was aware of the trade talks, according to ESPN.com Packers reporter and Cover 2 contributor Rob Demovsky. The Packers put the franchise tag on Adams last week so he wouldn’t become an unrestricted free agent.
Not only did the Raiders acquire Adams, but they also made him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, inking him a five-year contract that pays him $141.25 ...
Even the free-agent market has dried up of elite options with Allen Robinson already inking a deal with the Rams. Odell Beckham Jr. could be an option, but he is rehabbing a torn ACL that he suffered in the Super Bowl, so there are plenty of question marks regarding his status for the 2022 season. That said, the Packers shouldn't have allowed things between them and Adams to sour as much as it did, especially when they were willing to pay him the contract he desired in the end. Once Adams told the Packers that he would not be playing under the franchise tag, it became abundantly clear that he wasn't going to have a long-term future with the team.
It turns out quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn't the only Green Bay Packers star who can carry a grudge. Devante Adams did, too.
In any event, where does this leave the Packers? In the here and now of free agency, Gutekunst suddenly has $20 million more in salary-cap room to work with but also an incredibly gaping hole at receiver. You also can bet on Gutekunst selecting at least two and maybe even three receivers in the April draft. It is worth noting that the Packers were 7-0 without Adams the last three years, and that’s hard to ignore. In Las Vegas, Adams will be in a new offense and with a quarterback he hasn’t played with since college at Fresno State. It’s not like he and Carr can just pick things up where they left off. Adams must have felt burned about something, either that they wouldn’t pay him what he thinks he’s worth with a contract extension last year, or because of something that happened in their contract talks since the season ended. The Packers can’t bring in anybody, or any several players, and replace that this offseason.
The Denver Broncos and general manager George Paton don't have time to rest. They need to add more cornerbacks with Davante Adams heading to Las Vegas.
Let’s take a look at three of the top free agents still on the market. Davante Adams has now joined the loaded AFC West and is $141.25 million richer for it. The Denver Broncos and general manager George Paton don’t have time to rest.
Aaron Rodgers is back but without his right-hand man as the Packers traded Davante Adams to the Raiders on Thursday night.
“When you start stacking up the numbers for Davante, it’s mind-blowing,” Rodgers said after breaking Brett Favre’s record for most touchdown passes in Packers history in the game against Cleveland. “I really feel like he’s the best player I’ve played with, and I said that to him the other night, actually. In a perfect world, you want your absolute best players to dominate with production, lead with presence and generally do everything on and off the field the right way. With overwhelming dominance, Adams entered free agency wanting to be the NFL’s highest-paid receiver. It’s an age-old rivalry and it means a lot to this town and really to football. So, when I’m going out there, I’m going to try to – like I said last week, I’m going to go out there and try to murder you with every opportunity that I can. Adams predictably bristled at getting the franchise tag, reportedly saying he wouldn’t play under it. In 2021, Adams set franchise records with 123 receptions for 1,553 yards (12.6 average). Eight of his 11 touchdowns came during the final seven games, when the offense really took off. Along with Green Bay’s choices at No. 28 and No. 59, the Packers are slated to have four of the top 59 selections. Chicago. “It means something to me because I know how much it means to this organization. I just knew it was going to be one of those special plays.” Perhaps they can re-sign Robert Tonyan, and he can return to form following last year’s torn ACL. Perhaps all of the above can happen. Perhaps they can land an instant-impact stud in the first round.
Star receiver Davante Adams is being traded from the Packers to the Raiders in exchange for a first-round pick, potentially more picks and a player, ...
Adams will make a per-year average of $28.25 million and becomes the new highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history, Rapoport added. Now, Carr, who's longed for a legitimate No. 1 receiver, has Adams, tight end Darrell Waller and receiver Hunter Renfrow at his disposal. The Las Vegas Raiders are acquiring Adams from the Packers in exchange for their 2022 first- and second-round picks, and giving the superstar receiver a new five-year, $141.25 million contract, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.
The Packers are trading the Pro Bowl wideout to the Raiders, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter (via Twitter). Green Bay will receive “two prime 2022 picks.” The ...
In fact, Rodgers was aware that Adams was done with the Packers when he inked his new deal, so this trade won’t come as any surprise to the QB (per Rapoport). Of course, there was still the matter of a contract; the Packers ended up franchising Adams when they couldn’t agree on an extension prior to the tender deadline, but the wideout later made it clear that he wouldn’t play the 2022 season on the franchise tag (one-year, $20.5MM). Adams has been pushing for a megadeal to top DeAndre Hopkins‘ $27MM/year contract, and per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky (on Twitter), the Packers were willing to meet his asking price. It will be interesting to see if the Packers are able to attract one of the few remaining FA wideouts, and Schefter confirms (on Twitter) that the team is indeed pursuing veteran receivers. The wideout finished the season with a career-high 1,553 receiving yards on 123 receptions. The Raiders are also inking Adams to a record-breaking contract. Davante Adams‘ stint with the Packers has come to a sudden end.

He has made First-Team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons, with Pro Bowl selections in each of the last five years. The Packers had franchise-tagged their star wideout ahead of the deadline, while rumors continued to swirl that the two sides remained far apart on contract negotiations to get a long-term deal in place. The compensation hasn’t been formally announced, but Schefter’s initial report indicates that the Packers will receive “two prime draft picks” in exchange for their All-Pro wide receiver.
The Green Bay Packers have traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for multiple draft selections and a player.
Davante Adams is in the prime of his career, having caught 29 touchdowns over the last two seasons. More intriguing is that Rodgers, who inked a new three-year, $150 million contract earlier this week with Green Bay, was aware of the situation in the days leading up to finalizing his new deal. In exchange for Adams, the Packers will receive a first-round pick and a player among other draft selections.
Adams also gets a new deal making him the highest-paid receiver.
As it relates to Adams' former team in the Packers, a natural question in the aftermath of this trade is how quarterback Aaron Rodgers -- who just agreed to a four-year, $200 extension with Green Bay -- feels about this move. With that in mind, a resolution -- either a trade or an extension -- was on the horizon in some capacity. The Davante Adams era in Green Bay is officially over.
The Packers aren't going to pay Davante Adams after all. He is being traded to the Raiders for a package involving Las Vegas' top two picks in the 2022 NFL ...
Green Bay — and Rodgers — will have plenty of options to target with their two first-round picks and two second-round picks. And Adams certainly will be happy with the contract extension he received as part of the trade. The Packers agreed to trade Adams to the Raiders on Thursday night. The Packers, meanwhile, will have to rebuild their receiving corps with Adams gone. Davante Adams and the Packers won't have to work out a new contract after all. In 2019, the Raiders acquired Antonio Brown via trade from the Steelers, only to cut him before he played a snap for the team.
The Las Vegas Raiders have made a blockbuster move to keep up in the AFC West, acquiring All-Pro receiver Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers.
You may recall the Packers franchise tagged Adams and gave Aaron Rodgers all the money over the past couple of weeks. Adams reportedly told the Green Bay front ...
Well that means it’s time for him to go and secure the biggest of bags in Sin City. Adams reportedly told the Green Bay front office that he wouldn’t play under the franchise tag. And in case you’re wondering, Rodgers apparently knew that Adams was going to depart even as he was negotiating the contract.
Davante Adams shocked the world by choosing the Raiders over the Packers. Adams' history with Derek Carr at Fresno State explains why.
Perhaps this just more about Davante Adams wanting to go home again, and the Raiders making that possible. What we know is that Adams and the Packers were far apart in negotiations on a new contract, and the Raiders were quite willing to transact. “Obviously, our coaching staff trusted him a lot to let him do his thing out there, and he called a lot of the plays. (Isaiah Burse caught 17 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown in that game. Adams went off in his penultimate game with Carr, catching nine passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Green Bay had placed the franchise tag on Adams to buy more time, but reports now indicate that even as Aaron Rodgers was signing his new extension with the Packers after so much drama, Rodgers knew that he’d probably never throw to Adams again.

The Packers placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Adams on March 8. Essentially, the two players were not necessarily considered a package deal for Green Bay. It was Adams’ desire to play for the Raiders and with Carr that ultimately led to the trade. Over the last two seasons, Adams has caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns and has been named All-Pro twice. Adams receives a contract worth $141.25 million over five years, for an average of $28.25 million, NFL Network reported.

The New York Jets agreed with defensive end Jacob Martin on terms for a three-year deal worth up to $16.5 million, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contract. Chark said other teams wanted to give a long-term deal to the former Pro Bowl receiver who was limited to four games last season in Jacksonville by a broken ankle. A person familiar with the move said the Raiders are sending the No. 22 overall pick in the April draft and additional compensation to the Packers to reunite Adams with his college quarterback, Derek Carr. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the deal hadn’t been announced.

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers are trading receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a package of draft picks, according to multiple reports.
The non-exclusive tag meant Adams could still talk to and negotiate with other teams, but the Packers had the right to match any deal offered. Over the last two seasons, Adams has caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns and has been named All-Pro twice. The Packers placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Adams on March 8. It was Adams’ desire to play for the Raiders and with Carr that ultimately led to the trade. Essentially, the two players were not necessarily considered a package deal for Green Bay. Combined with their own picks at No. 28 and No. 59, they will have four picks in the top 60.
In reuniting with his former Fresno State quarterback, Adams brings the Raiders an elite receiving target that should succeed where others failed.
Darren Waller is one of the most dangerous tight ends in the game. Otherwise, why would Adams come to Southern Nevada if not to hook up for the foreseeable future with his central California valley college bestie? So yeah, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has had "names" to throw the ball to in his eight-year NFL career. Rather, they were biding their time. And with Adams coming to Las Vegas and signing a five-year contract averaging $28.5 million per season, an extension for Carr, who is entering the final year of his five-year, $125 million deal, has to be in the offing. And DeSean Jackson just never quite vibed.
Once the Davante Adams trade is official, the Packers will gain almost $20 million in cap space and have plenty of room to retain in-house free agents or ...
The Packers will remove the entire sum by trading him to the Raiders, but his cap number will be replaced by a minimum contract ($705,000) because of the Top 51 rule. But the Packers are now loaded with draft picks and suddenly free of handcuffing salary cap constraints. Trading Adams will create around $19.4 million in new cap space, which will give the Packers all the space needed to get aggressive on the open market if desired.
Only the Jacksonville Jaguars have more draft selections in April's draft.
Whether you liked the Adams trade or not, you can’t claim that too many teams are better suited going into the draft than the Packers, who have two picks in each of the first, second and fourth rounds of the 2022 draft. Combined, the trade package for Adams, aside from the north of $20 million saved on the salary cap, comes out to 2,442 points, roughly the value of the third overall pick (2,443.) The Spielberger and Fitzgerald chart, following the trade of receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for the team’s first- and second-round picks, would have the Packers’ draft capital at 7,433 points, good for sixth among NFL teams as it stands today.
A couple of things to know on the Green Bay Packers trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders: The team actually offered Adams more money than he'll ...
Offering more money to stay in Green Bay wasn’t enough for the Packers to keep the two-time first-team All-Pro. Both Adams and the Packers have to be considered winners. Last season, Adams played out the final year of his $58 million deal despite catching an NFL-high 18 touchdown passes in 2020.
Former Cal quarterback had suggested before signing extension with Green Bay that his decision would rest on whether Adams would be with Packers in 2022.
The big question was whether Rodgers was informed of the Packers' decision to trade Adams. It was Rodgers' annoyance that he was not included in discussions about the Packers' moves that led to his dissatisfaction and request to be traded last offseason. But social media has said plenty, as we see below: And if he was included in the discussions to trade Adams -- which reportedly he was -- did he OK the decision or simply told what was going to happen?
The Raiders sent significant draft capital to the Packers for a 29-year-old WR set to break the bank. Bill Barnwell looks at why it's a risky move based on ...
When he famously traded for Moss, he sent a fourth-round pick to the Raiders and insisted on Moss cutting his salary down from $9.8 million to $3 million. To start, the people who were making disappointing selections for the Raiders at the top of the draft over the past several years were Gruden and Mike Mayock, and neither is still with the organization. I think you could have made a strong case that the Raiders needed to address their offensive line or hit cornerback with a significant addition if they were going to use those picks for a known quantity. a draft pick and $24.5 million per year to spend elsewhere (and more after you account for the surplus value of the picks). The draft pick isn't a sure thing, but it has to be only a borderline starter to live up to expectations. The move might feel just that much more desperate for the Raiders because of how long they've been trying to fill this need for a superstar wideout. It's always fun to add a superstar, and I'm not sure I can fault the Raiders for taking a swing on a Hall of Fame-caliber wide receiver, but the more I think about this deal, the more I don't like it for the silver and black. (For what it's worth, as good as Adams is, none of the guys on this list should be compared to Rice, who was coming off of six consecutive top-two seasons and still had four more to go.) I have no doubt that the two formed a bond in college and that Carr is an underrated quarterback, but he just isn't the same type of passer as Rodgers. The Packers legend is an incredible improviser and a passer who finds ways to get the ball to his receivers from impossible angles. Hopkins had a significant chunk of that money added to the end of his deal, which had three years remaining. Reports after the fact suggested that the relationship between Adams and the Packers was irreparably fractured after Green Bay used the franchise tag to retain Adams for 2022. Davante Adams is now a member of the Raiders, as Las Vegas sent its first- and second-round picks to Green Bay to acquire arguably the best receiver in football.
Davante Adams has been acquired by the Las Vegas Raiders from the Green Bay Packers, according to the NFL website.
Since he joined the Packers in 2014, Adams has formed a fruitful partnership with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Derek Carr gets to throw to one of pro football's best receivers, while Aaron Rodgers ... well...
Now? Well, one of these powerhouses has to finish in last place, but trying to predict who that will be (or who will finish in first, for that matter) is a fool's errand. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had reportedly contemplated retirement and a possible move to Denver before accepting a three-year deal worth over $150 million to stay with the Packers. Rapoport reports that Rodgers signed his deal (and yes, he has signed the deal) knowing that Adams would be gone. No matter how successful your offense is, there's still only one football, and Adams figures to soak up a lot of catches that would have otherwise gone to his new teammates. The addition of Adams gives the Raiders one of the deeper sets of weapons in the league. He was second in DYAR last season after finishing first in 2020, and has ranked 16th or higher five times in the last six seasons. Adams, who doesn't turn 30 until December, has made five straight Pro Bowls and been named a first-team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons.
Davante Adams may have seen more green from the Packers, but it appears the All-Pro receiver didn't flinch at the opportunity to return to Green Bay and ...
Adams finished the final year of his four-year, $58 million deal with Green Bay last season, a campaign in which he set franchise records for catches and receiving yards. He ranked third in the NFL in receiving yards (1,553) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (11) in 2021. Instead, he’ll now fulfill his dream of playing with quarterback Derek Carr, whom he caught passes from during their college days at Fresno State, on the Raiders.
Whether or not it's fair, plenty of fans have been chirping the quarterback after his top wide receiver left for the AFC West.
With that being the case, Rodgers can no longer turn around and accuse the front office of failing to build a championship team around him. However, the events of the last year do indicate that Rodgers has at least some role to play here. After a year of speculation about his future, Rodgers is returning to the Packers for 2022, and potentially beyond.
