MLB Prospect Watch: What's causing teams to trade first-round picks? (CBS sports.com)

A strange trend has popped up across Major League Baseball since the owner-imposed lockout was lifted last week. Not one, not two, but three first-round ...

Of course, the game has changed in what teams value from starters, so it's at least conceivable that he could become a mid-rotation staple with just two good pitches. He won't pitch for any team in the A's organization for a while, either. He has an electric arm, one that has allowed him to top 100 mph before. To put it another way, if you're the Braves, why would you trade Spencer Strider -- someone who could contribute to your big-league roster in a meaningful way this season -- when you could instead trade Cusick, whose value might never be higher to other teams. (The lockout concentrating so much trade activity into a short amount of time also increased the likelihood of a pattern emerging, be it an imagined one or otherwise.) Prior to 2015, Major League Baseball prohibited teams from trading their selected players within a year of the draft.

John Collins injury update: Hawks big man will get second opinion ... (CBSSports.com)

Atlanta coach Nate McMillan said that it's unclear how long Collins will be out.

This has not happened, and, with Collins either out or severely limited, it is difficult to imagine everything falling into place in the postseason, should the Hawks manage to earn one of the final two spots. Atlanta has vastly underachieved relative to expectations; at 34-35, the team is 10th in the East, occupying the final spot in the play-in. John Collins has played in just four games for the Atlanta Hawks since Feb. 11, and at this point t's unclear when the big man will play in another one.

MLB rumors: Giants sign Matthew Boyd to pad rotation depth ... (CBS sports.com)

Major League Baseball's hot stove has been relit since the owner-imposed lockout was lifted last week. On Wednesday alone, we saw Matt Chapman traded and ...

The Mets had been rumored to be on the hunt to find a new reserve outfielder. Over the last three years, he's posted a 96 ERA+ and a 3.84 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 324 innings. Moran, 29, hit .258/.334/.390 (97 OPS+) with 12 doubles, 10 homers and 50 RBI in 99 games last season. Since 2019, he's amassed a 119 ERA+ and a 3.59 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 59 starts. It is worth noting that he was suspended 80 games in 2019 after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug. According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Kansas City remains interested in obtaining Frankie Montas from Oakland. Soler, 30, flashed his immense upside in winning the World Series MVP last fall, clubbing three homers and driving home six runs in six games. Still, Soler would provide depth and a wealth or outfield/DH options for Brian Snitker. Plus, there are several injury question marks among the group anyway. Adding Castellanos would move Schwarber to left field, and it's always possible Castellanos gets thrown out there, though his time in the outfield has nearly exclusively been in right. It currently looks like Avisaíl García and Jesús Aguilar are slotted in the 3-4 holes. Keep your browser locked in here for all the latest news, notes, and rumors. In some respects, it was a career year and he made his first All-Star team.

2022 NFL free agency team-by-team grades: Bills, Buccaneers ... (CBSSports.com)

2022 NFL Free Agency Monday Recap, Winners & Losers: Jaguars help Trevor Lawrence, Steelers add Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson rumors heat up (Football 3/14).

Somehow, they didn't just get Tom Brady back from retirement, but also found a way to keep the anchor of his line and their top young cover man. Uzomah is a nice pass-catching addition for Zach Wilson, and Tomlinson helps beef up the line. The Saints made quick work of replacing Marcus Williams, who inked a long-term deal with the Ravens in free agency. Ryan is another Band-Aid at QB, but he at least offers good value via trade; Indy essentially flipped Carson Wentz for the longtime Falcons QB and a third-rounder. A-Rob is their latest luxury addition out wide, allowing them to roll into 2022 with one of the NFL's best/deepest pass-catching groups, with or without a new deal for Odell Beckham Jr. Retaining Aaron Rodgers was the biggest move of the offseason, even if the QB wasn't technically a free agent. The Browns get a clear upgrade at QB by slotting in Watson over Baker Mayfield, but this move comes with major risks. They were betting big on DT Larry Ogunjobi's continued development, committing $13.5M per year to the ex-Bengals starter before a failed physical killed the deal. Woods, meanwhile, brings experience to the back end of the defense at a reasonable price. Moses gives them quality insurance up front to protect Lamar Jackson. And Pierce is exactly the kind of reunion they needed on defense, especially after the Za'Darius Smith deal fell through. Hayward gives them a quality starting corner for a reasonable price, but their offense is sorely lacking. Arizona went all in on older and/or injury-prone veterans a year ago, but it'd be nice to see the team go a little greener if its gonna spend big money.
