Selection Sunday 2022: Start time, TV channel, more for bracket ... (UW Dawg Pound)

Fine out how to tune in to the bracket reveal and join the UWDP tourney pick'em group.

This year the women’s tournament finally has gotten the rights to be advertised as part of “March Madness”. The Degree Bracket Gap Challenge is trying to help increase gender equity across college basketball and is encouraging folks to fill out a bracket for the women’s tournament as well. It’s free to join and if you win you have the choice about whether to be insufferable about it or just accept your congratulations and move on with your life. This comes on the heels of the first Final 4 to feature all teams west of the Mississippi last year (Gonzaga, UCLA, Baylor, Houston).

NCAA Selection Sunday: Gonzaga Gets Top Overall Seed (The New York Times)

Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas and Baylor earned the four No. 1 seeds in the N.C.A.A. men's tournament.

Gillespie sat in the stands at Hinkle Fieldhouse with crutches last March as Villanova gamely tried to fight off Baylor after injuring knee ligaments late in the season. This year’s tournament also offers another moment at center stage for Collin Gillespie, Villanova’s determined point guard and a Big East player of the year in back-to-back seasons. The Ivy League, which canceled last season, will send Yale, seeded 14th in the East, against Purdue after the Bulldogs upset top-seeded Princeton in the conference championship game on Sunday. - 1 Kansas799 Creighton72 - 1 Gonzaga829 Memphis78 Others who were left just outside the field included Oklahoma, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M and Xavier. That run started haltingly enough: with Darius Maddox hitting a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to outlast Clemson. Some of the turbulence was surely linked to the pandemic. The Zags, who were chasing a perfect season last year, will merely be pursuing their first national championship this season when they open in the West region in Portland, Ore. There were no bands, mascots or cheerleaders, so the most audible sounds were the squeaks of sneakers on the hardwood. The most welcome return, though, will not be for blue bloods or Cinderellas, familiar coaches or rising stars. Also returning are a host of super seniors like Mitch Lightfoot, who first suited up for Kansas back in 2016.

Selection Sunday 2022: NCAA tournament bracket release, bubble ... (The Athletic)

March Madness is officially here. It's Selection Sunday, with the bracket reveal for the 2022 men's NCAA Tournament happening tonight, at 6 p.m. ET.

#RaiderFamily pic.twitter.com/SpTSoDbM57 March 16, 2022 #RaiderFamily pic.twitter.com/odh0YfV1Jb March 16, 2022 Every time it looks like Indiana is ready to run away with the lead, Wyoming comes storming back. If I'm him, I'm trying to get him back in at the four-minute mark and trust that he can play his way through it. And it’s back at full power this year, with fans in the stands at sites coast-to-coast, savoring all the drama and emotion. DAYTON, Ohio — Mike Woodson didn’t wait until the end of the postgame news conference to begin preparing for the long flight to Portland, Ore., loosening his red tie and pulling it over his head. But man did he crush the Jayhawks. Respect. Basile's got 7pts, Finke/Welage 6pts each & Calvin's got 5pts. It's been a much more balanced attack for Bryant, as all eight players logging minutes have scored. The Raiders took care of business from the free-throw line, shooting a season-high 26-of-32. Paul Atkinson Jr. scored the game-winning bucket, lifting Notre Dame past Rutgers, 89-87 in double overtime. Like Mike Brey, we hoped there would be Irish whiskey on the plane to San Diego.

SI's Final March Madness Bracket Projection on Selection Sunday (CalBearsMaven)

Gonzaga, Arizona, Baylor and Kansas lead SI's projected men's NCAA tournament field of 68 as time runs out.

No. 2 Villanova vs. No. 1 Baylor vs. No. 2 Auburn vs. No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 2 Tennessee vs. No. 6 Texas vs. The practical impact of that is that Arizona gets to play in San Antonio for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rather than Chicago, and Baylor heads to Philadelphia instead of San Antonio or Chicago. Kentucky’s case for a No. 1 ended (at least in my eyes) with Saturday’s loss to Tennessee, which helped solidify the Vols on the No. 2 line themselves. No. 5 Iowa vs. At No. 30 in KenPom, the Sooners would be one of the higher-ranked teams to miss the cut in recent memory, but an ugly overall win-loss record combined with a 10–14 record in Quad 1 + 2 games is enough to have OU just on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, Villanova beating Creighton in the Big East final combined with Duke’s loss to Virginia Tech makes the Wildcats the clear choice over the Blue Devils for a No. 2 seed. The big story coming into the weekend was conference tournament surges by Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, which gave each team life in its bubble hopes.

"We had great basketball this week... The South's a far more winnable region than the West, where Duke is, and there's a real chance the Vols continue their incredible few weeks with a deep tourney run. Richmond's win in the A-10 title game Sunday over No. 1 seed Davidson threw a huge bid thief into the mix on the final day of action. March Madness has officially arrived. They're joined on the No. 1 seed line by Arizona (South Region), Kansas (Midwest Region) and Baylor (East Region) In the West, Duke is the No. 2, Texas Tech is the No. 3 and Arkansas is the No. 4. Auburn (Midwest) and Kentucky (East) headlined the next line of teams at the No. 2 spot by the committee after both turned in impressive resumes that might've been good enough for 1-seeds if not for early SEC Tournament exits. Dayton, Oklahoma, SMU and Texas A&M weren't as fortunate, however, and they were the first teams out of this year's field.

The Mustangs (23-8, 13-4 AAC) beat Memphis twice in the regular season but likely needed to beat the Tigers a third time in the American Athletic tournament to feel secure with an at-large bid. The Wolverines (17-14, 11-9 Big Ten) possess an excellent NET score in the 30s to go along with no bad losses and a top-five strength of schedule. One thing to like on this résumé is a Quadrant 1 win over Kentucky and the overall win total.

On Selection Sunday, here's where Auburn basketball's NCAA ... (Montgomery Advertiser)

On Selection Sunday for March Madness, here's where Auburn basketball stands and where Bruce Pearl's Tigers might end up in the NCAA Tournament bracket.

Lunardi and CBS Sports' Jerry Palm list Auburn as a No. 2 seed. Still, Auburn (27-5) is the SEC regular-season champion and almost guaranteed to be a No. 2. Duke lost in the ACC Championship Game to underdog Virginia Tech on Saturday night. Tennessee plays Sunday (noon CT, ESPN) against Texas A&M in the SEC title game. Auburn is No. 1 nationally in blocked shots per game (7.9), No. 7 in shooting defense (38.5%), No. 20 in steals per game (8.8), No. 17 in scoring margin, No. 60 in 3-point defense (31.2%) and No. 71 in assist-to-turnover ratio. The Tigers are No. 188 in field goal percentage (43.95%) and No. 258 in 3-point shooting (32%). They shoot 51.9% inside the arc. Of note: In a record year for Alabama teams making the NCAA Tournament (four), Jacksonville State is a possible 15-seed and could match up with Auburn in the first round. There are three high-seeded teams that would presumably choose Greenville, South Carolina, based on geography: Auburn, Duke and Tennessee. Two of those three can land there. As of early Sunday morning, Friday's loss to Texas A&M is Auburn's first Quad 2 loss of the season, because the Aggies (23-11) are No. 51 in the NET. A neutral-site game becomes Quad 1 if the opponent is in the top 50. The Tigers are No. 12 in the NET rankings and No. 10 according to KenPom. They are 24th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency and eighth in adjusted defensive efficiency, with the No. 33 strength of schedule. According to the NET rankings, they are 8-4 in Quad 1 games; a combined 19-1 in Quads 2-4. In the SEC Tournament, the Tigers lost 67-62 to Texas A&M in the quarterfinals, likely eliminating them from NCAA No. 1 seed contention.

Anchor Drop, March 13: Selection Sunday (Anchor of Gold)

Two more teams joined the NIT field last night with Long Beach State and Alcorn State losing their conference finals. SEC Baseball: Texas 9, South Carolina 5 ... Santa Clara 16, Texas A&M 5 (Game 1) ... Florida 16, Seton Hall 4 (Game 1) ... Missouri 4, San Francisco 1 ... LSU 5, Bethune-Cookman 1 ... Arkansas 10, UIC 1 ... Alabama 14, Binghamton 2 ... Texas A&M 10, Santa Clara 2 (Game 2) ... Florida 11, Seton Hall 9 (Game 2). In other news, LSU fired Will Wade and his child-bearing hips with cause, days after receiving a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA (and released portions of the Notice of Allegations indicate that Will Wade committed a Level 1 violation a full year after the “strong-ass offer” tape dropped, and also, that he bribed the ex-fiancee of a player to keep her mouth shut about NCAA violations.) The SEC and Big 10 are clearly multi-bid leagues, and in the AAC and Atlantic 10 finals, Houston and Davidson are almost certainly getting in even with a loss. Today is Selection Sunday. Of no interest to Vanderbilt fans (but of interest to me as a college basketball fan): the NCAA Selection Show, airing at 5:00 PM CT on CBS. Of interest to Vanderbilt fans: the NIT Selection Show, which starts at 7:30 PM CT on ESPNU. I’m not sure if Vanderbilt will get in; of note, ten conference regular season champs have probably claimed NIT automatic bids by losing in their conference tournaments, and it’s possible that one more is coming today if Princeton loses to Yale in the Ivy League final. Baseball will finish off its three-game series against Wagner at 1 PM CT today, with streaming on SEC Network+. Men’s tennis briefly steps out of SEC play to host Drake at 9 AM CT, and they’ll be followed by the women hosting Missouri at 12:30. Women's Selection Sunday: What to Watch in Bracket Reveal (The New York Times)

The bracket expands to 68 teams in the first women's N.C.A.A. tournament officially branded as March Madness.

Howard, which last appeared in the national competition in 2001 and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, will face Incarnate Word in a play-in game. If it beats Mount St. Mary’s in a play-in game on Thursday, Longwood will move on to meet North Carolina State. Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, known as I.U.P.U.I., will make its N.C.A.A. tournament debut as a No. 13 seed after it won the Horizon League tournament. South Carolina, the sport’s most dominant team this season and a squad that pummeled UConn in November, will try to put distance between an upset loss to Kentucky, a No. 6 seed in the national competition, in the Southeastern Conference tournament and its championship ambitions. Mulkey’s new team, third-seeded Louisiana State, will be trying to extend its remarkable turnaround: The Tigers posted a losing record last season, but have gone 25-5 since. I could care less physically where they are; I care about where are we mentally, and if we’re in a really, really good place, everything else will take care of itself.” “We’re pretty efficient on defense, and that’s what we hold ourselves to,” Aaliyah Edwards, a sophomore forward, said at the end of the Big East tournament. “We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Geno Auriemma, the Connecticut coach, said after the Huskies dominated in the Big East tournament. No one in college basketball, of course, is counting out the name-brand program of the Big East. UConn won the conference title game against Villanova by 30 points, avenging the earlier defeat. Injuries to other players have added to the season’s stumbles. The 2022 tournament will formally open on Wednesday, when the first play-in games will be contested. Although the tournament’s expansion by four teams reflects the increasing popularity of women’s sports in the United States, it is also an answer to the firestorm over gender equity that often overshadowed last year’s competition in San Antonio and made plain years of N.C.A.A. failures and revenue-fueled priorities.
