Gonzaga, Arizona, Baylor and Kansas lead SI's projected men's NCAA tournament field of 68 as time runs out.
No. 2 Villanova vs. No. 1 Baylor vs. No. 2 Auburn vs. No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 2 Tennessee vs. No. 6 Texas vs. The practical impact of that is that Arizona gets to play in San Antonio for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rather than Chicago, and Baylor heads to Philadelphia instead of San Antonio or Chicago. Kentucky’s case for a No. 1 ended (at least in my eyes) with Saturday’s loss to Tennessee, which helped solidify the Vols on the No. 2 line themselves. No. 5 Iowa vs. At No. 30 in KenPom, the Sooners would be one of the higher-ranked teams to miss the cut in recent memory, but an ugly overall win-loss record combined with a 10–14 record in Quad 1 + 2 games is enough to have OU just on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, Villanova beating Creighton in the Big East final combined with Duke’s loss to Virginia Tech makes the Wildcats the clear choice over the Blue Devils for a No. 2 seed. The big story coming into the weekend was conference tournament surges by Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, which gave each team life in its bubble hopes.

(1) PAC-12/Arizona vs. (1) BIG 12/Kansas vs. South Dakota State isn’t the only team in this regional with a capable outside shooting contingent. SMU (285th) and Rutgers (298th) are at least inside the top 300. West vs. East, Midwest vs. Two more joined that list last year: Rutgers (No. 256) and Drake (No. 305). Flip North Carolina and Memphis if the Tigers win the midafternoon American Athletic title game. In the case of a Richmond defeat of Davidson in the Atlantic 10 final, the Spiders take this No. 12 spot and Loyola claims Notre Dame’s spot on the No. 11 line as the Irish are relegated to play-in territory. There’s a lot to sort out with the Scarlet Knights (18-13), and the high-end victories stand out. The Musketeers lost six of their last seven — and eight of their last 10 — to complete another late-season fade. Definitely Rutgers, which none of the six team sheet metrics peg as a top-50 team but nonetheless owns a 6-6 record in Quadrant 1 games.
Richmond's win in the A-10 title game bumped a team from the field, but this will be my final set of projections.
7) Michigan St. 6) Texas 7) Boise St. The projections below are based on all games played through March 13, 2022. Kentucky is 26-7 overall with no losses outside of Q1. The Wildcats have nine Q1 victories and are 14-7 in the top two quadrants, but they finished just 8-7 away from home. Kansas followed up its Big 12 regular season title with a tournament crown and is slotted third overall.
With the Vols beating Texas A&M 65-50 in the 2022 SEC Tournament Championship, Tennessee is now 26-7 (17-4 SEC). Following the Vols triumphant win over ...
Meanwhile, a Tennessee win would lock in the Vols on the No. 2 line, a spot they’d only be at risk of relinquishing with a loss and a Purdue win," Sweeney said. Want the latest on national football and basketball recruiting, including Vols targets? Palm joins Lunardi in projecting Auburn and Kentucky as No. 2 seeds. What Lunardi said is below. Tennessee also achieved the conference title, as Auburn was knocked out in the quarterfinals thanks to Texas A&M and Kentucky in the semifinals thanks to UT. Lunardi still has the Vols as the second best No. 3 seed, behind No. 2 seeds in Auburn and Kentucky. Following Tennessee's win over the Aggies, Lunardi was asked on ESPN what his predictions were for Tennessee in the bracket.

Despite reaching the SEC Tournament title game after wins over Florida, Auburn and Arkansas, Texas A&M could be left out of the NCAA Tournament as one of ...
We weren't supposed to beat Florida, and so the reward is the opportunity to play Auburn. Then we weren't supposed to beat Auburn, and so the reward is the opportunity to play Arkansas. We are not supposed to play Arkansas, and so the reward is we get to play again tomorrow. "Like we get to play, and the reward for doing is the opportunity to do more. "So for our guys, they would rather play than practice.
The selection committee had some difficult choices and missed on a few things in the NCAA Tournament bracket.
And finally, they have four losses outside of Quad 1, equaling Wisconsin. The other ten teams have four such losses combined. The committee had the Aggies as the third team out, behind Dayton and SMU. I had them in my bracket and missed on Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have a very weird resume, so I do not really have a problem with them getting in. That is why Wyoming-Indiana is a 12-seed and Rutgers-Notre Dame is a No. 11. Teams that get left out of the NCAA Tournament always gave the selection committee a reason to leave them out. The resume comparison with Indiana shows two very similar teams, which Texas A&M having edges in a couple of key areas. Indiana has five losses outside of Quad 1, while Texas A&M only has two.

Like Lunardi, CBS has Tennessee facing 14th-seed St. Peters in the first round. The bracket has Tennessee facing 14th-seed St. Peters in the first round of the tournament with 11-seed Iowa State and six-seed Boise State as potential second round opponents. CBS has seven SEC teams in the tournament including No. 2 Kentucky, No. 2 Auburn, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Alabama and No. 10 seed Texas A&M. Despite the success this week in Tampa, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has not budged on the Vols’ seeding or location. Lunardi has seven SEC teams currently in the field including No. 2 Kentucky, No. 2 Auburn, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 LSU, No. 6 Alabama and No. 12 seed Texas A&M — his last team in the field. Other top seeds in the South Region include No. 1 Arizona, No. 4 Providence and No. 5 Houston.
