Live Results, Winner Interviews And More From UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Ankalaev, Live From the UFC APEX In Las Vegas.

The fight went to the mat in the second minute, but Lungiambula defended Brundage’s takedown attempt with plenty of offense, and when the two rose, “Champion” kept pouring it on until Brundage locked in a guillotine choke, took the fight to the mat, and forced a tap out. UFC FIGHT NIGHT: SANTOS vs. What followed was a rear naked choke, and Mazo was forced to tap at 2:15 of the second stanza. Semelsberger tried to escape and got caught in a guillotine choke briefly, and the two went back to where they were on the canvas. Pereira’s world-class technique took over in the third, and he had Silva on wobbly legs midway through the round. A strong start to round two by Pereira was answered when Silva got another takedown in the third minute, but again, Pereira didn’t stay there long. Two flash knockdowns were the result, and they were key in an otherwise close round. In the final minute, Ankalaev locked up with Santos against the fence and scored his first takedown, a major scoring moment for the Russian. With Moraes stunned, referee Keith Peterson had seen enough, and he stopped the bout at the 2:06 mark of the opening round. Both got busier to start round two, but Santos still wasn’t landing anything of note while Ankalaev got in a nice right hand-left kick combination. The No.5-ranked Santos falls to 22-10. There was little action in the first 90 seconds, and Ankalaev ended that stalemate with a couple right hands that hit their mark and got Santos’ attention.

He landed 108 of his 179 significant strikes in a fight that happened nearly exclusively on the feet. So for him to go three rounds against a decent fighter like Silva is a sign that he has more than just the power he has shown. As it turns out, that was a mistake that cost him the fight. That was the lesson prospect Terrance McKinney found out in his first-round TKO loss to Drew Dober. After dropping three of four from late 2018 to early 2021, he now has two wins in a row. Alex Pereira might be a bit green in MMA, but he's dangerous nonetheless. In the second round, it was Rountree who proved they wouldn't need the scorekeepers. He had lost to a tough combination of contenders in Rob Font, Cory Sandhagen and Merab Dvalishvili. This was a much-needed rebound performance for Yusuff. He suffered his first loss in three years against Arnold Allen last time out. It was a tough night to be Alex Caceres' lead leg. Though Ankalaev didn't secure a takedown, he did utilize the clinch against the cage to control Santos and wrap up the win. This wasn't the most exciting performance from Ankalaev, but it was efficient and effective.

Song Yadong got the step up in competition he wanted as he faced former title challenger Marlon Moraes at the UFC Apex on Saturday. Yadong (19-5-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) didn’t waste time letting his hands go as he nearly dropped Moraes with a clean right hand early in the fight. Khalil Rountree turned in an impressive performance at UFC Fight Night 203 against Karl Roberson. After a first round that was filled with back-and-forth exchanges, Rountree (10-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) came out of the gates fast in the second and flattened Roberson (9-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC) with a hard right hook. Cody Brundage (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) got the UFC Apex rocking early in the evening with his incredible comeback submission victory. He was one of four Performance of the Night winners, as the promotion did not award a Fight of the Night Bonus for this event. The strike came seemingly out of nowhere and once it landed, there was no doubt the fight was over. The Real Winners and Losers from UFC Fight Night 203 (unknown)

Magomed Ankalaev picked up the most important victory of his career on Saturday night—but it wasn't pretty...

In the second fight of the night, Argentine bantamweight Guido Cannetti picked up an impressive standing TKO win over Kris Moutinho, who is known for his ability to take a beating after a lopsided loss to Sean O'Malley last year. Russian light heavyweight Azamat Murzakanov kicked things off in style, shutting the lights out on Tafon Nchukwi with a third-round flying knee, moving to 11-0 in the process. After beating Liana Jojua and Gillian Roberson in her first two UFC bouts, Miranda Maverick looked like she was destined for big things—maybe even a spot near the top of the flyweight division. He brought the heat, and I was able to bring it back." So, when he began his UFC career with a flying knee knockout Andreas Michailidis back in November, he was quickly mentioned as a future opponent for Adesanya, who now holds the promotion's middleweight title. He called for a ranked opponent, and it is unlikely many people will be lining up to accept. "It was one of the toughest first rounds of my career. While Ankalaev's win over Santos was a bit of a stinker, the majority of the UFC Fight Night 203 broadcast was incredible. Light heavyweight knockout artist Khalil Rountree Jr. did what he does best on the UFC Fight Night 203 main card, battering former middleweight Karl Roberson to a first-round knockout win. Terrance McKinney was on an incredible streak ahead of UFC Fight Night 203, with first-round finishes in his last five fights—all in just 4:03 combined. "I was expecting him to be more aggressive and grapple more, but he didn't," Ankalaev said post-fight. He ultimately scored a unanimous decision win, but the fight was widely panned by fans and pundits for its slow pace.

Magomed Ankalaev outpoints Thiago Santos to move closer to title shot (unknown)

The light heavyweights took a measured approach over five rounds on Saturday with the Russian getting the upper hand.

If he doesn’t go beast mode in the first minute and Miss the finish, he’ll win it. Magomed Ankalaev, five rounds in the light heavyweight division. We now head along to the main event. The fight saw a lot of hesitation and feinting but very little in ters of actual strikes thrown though Ankalae did have a nice moment with a straight punch and a blocked head kick. Both finally opened up a bit with big shots that nearly landed though Ankalaev got the better of most of the exchanges. In the final minute, Ankalaev finally initiated a bit of grappling, grabbing a body lock and scoring a takedown with 30 seconds left in the round, doing some decent work from the top before the round ended. "It will depend on the UFC who my next opponent will be but I feel I deserve a title fight." Ankalaev controlled most of the first half of the round with simple, straight punches before driving in and grabbing a body lock. That success, he believes, is enough to land him in the Octagon with the winner of the upcoming fight between light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira and challenger Jiri Prochazka. "Yes, there were some moments where I could have taken it to the ground and my coach was telling me I should grapple and wrestle more," Ankalaev said after the fight. Time ran out on Santos' chance to finish, however, and the Brazilian was never close to scoring the finish from the point on. Ankalaev ultimately picked up the unanimous decision win, extending his division-best winning streak, but few are likely to call for him to get a shot at the division crown after a fight that was severely lacking in action from both men.
