3 takeaways from Milwaukee Bucks' tough loss to Golden State ... (Behind The Bucks Pass)

The Milwaukee Bucks had their six-game winning streak ended by the Golden State Warriors last night, and here are three takeaways from the contest.

The Bucks suffered the consequences for it in the end as this rebounding disparity proved fatal in the loss. Pulling down 46.8 rebounds per game this season, the second-most in the association, the Bucks have been one of the best rebounding teams in the league. Given how well the Bucks had been playing lately, this double-digit loss was a tough one to watch, as there were certainly plenty of issues on display.

Warriors 122, Bucks 109: Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson catch fire to ... (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Milwaukee Bucks couldn't keep pace with the Golden State Warriors, and the team's six-game winning streak came to an end.

The initial timeline for a return was four weeks and as he nears that marker, Budenholzer said Connaughton has done some catching of passes and light contact with coaches. Holiday had 11 points for the Bucks and Serge Ibaka contributed 11 off the bench despite missing most of the second quarter receiving stitches around his right eye. Budenholzer didn’t specify what is next in terms of workouts or medical clearances for the big man but did offer that “I would say he’s getting close.” Former Milwaukee Hamilton star Kevon Looney continued his streak of starts for the Warriors (68) and had nine rebounds. Up to that point, Golden State had made just 2 threes in the first 14 minutes of play. "It felt like tonight was one of those nights where Klay was gonna make some shots that were tough and well defended and his offense and his shooting were just better than what we could defend. He had a great night and he was impressive.” Antetokounmpo scored 31 points on 9 of 17 shooting but was 12-for-16 from the free throw line and 1-for-4 from behind the three-point line. Thompson once again gave his team a 20-point lead with a basket to make it 119-99 with 3:33 to go, and Budenholzer pulled his starters. “It’s kind of funny that like, obviously we haven’t seen him in a while due to his injury and it’s almost like we kind of forgot who he is, you know?” Antetokounmpo said. Middleton hit a couple of threes – but Thompson answered each bucket to keep the Warriors up 20. Of course, you’re not gonna take it personal but as a guy you want to get back and get your respect and they beat us."

Anyone banking on a Milwaukee Bucks championship repeat is in ... (Deadspin)

The Milwaukee Bucks took one on the chin Saturday night in prime time against the Golden State Warriors, falling in defeat 122-109.

Milwaukee even had trouble with Atlanta until a referee got in the way, and Trae Young twisted his ankle in game three of the eastern conference finals. But there is help on the way for Milwaukee. Brook Lopez is expected to make his return in the next few days. Milwaukee took advantage of facing a wounded Miami squad last year who, in the prior postseason, took care of the Bucks in five games when at full strength. That big toe of Durant’s turned out to be the Nets’ undoing, but that wasn’t even a series until Kyrie Irving went down with an ankle injury. Milwaukee has been up and down much of the year, scrolling through the Eastern Conference standings like a Twitter feed. Curry was on the floor for a total of 35 minutes.

Middleton seems to have finally found a rhythm after being hot and cold for most of the year. The Bucks Big Three of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday have come alive during that span. Starting center Brook Lopez is beginning five-on-five action and could return soon, which could shove the league’s best bargain, Bobby Portis, back to a bench role. After six consecutive wins, the Bucks have vaulted from fourth to second in the Eastern Conference standings. But with a trade deadline (and a few post-trade deadline) acquisitions, the bench has come alive. It’s also no coincidence that Jordan Nwora, Jevon Carter, and Serge Ibaka have provided more production off the pine.

Milwaukee Bucks: Updates on Brook Lopez and George Hill return ... (Behind The Bucks Pass)

The Milwaukee Bucks delivered some refreshing news pertaining to return dates for two key pieces in Brook Lopez and George Hill.

Getting both back in the lineup will be big, but it will be particularly interesting to see how the Bucks reintegrate Lopez into the swing of things. Some will argue if the Bucks should shake things up or not, but, in all likelihood, Portis will likely head back to the bench and Lopez will reclaim his starting spot. Of course, Lopez has been sidelined for all but one game this season due to back surgery, and Hill has been out of the lineup since January 28 due to lingering neck soreness.

Jevon Carter details his fit and role with the Milwaukee Bucks (Behind The Bucks Pass)

In a recent appearance on the Gyro Step Podcast, Jevon Carter detailed his early experience playing with the Milwaukee Bucks and why he has fit in so well.

According to NBA.com/stats, Carter is shooting 5-of-7 on his 3-pointers off passes from Khris Middleton and 3-of-4 off passes from Giannis Antetokounmpo. He has fully bought into his role offensively, and the results speak for themselves. This approach has proven to be a winning formula for Carter early on, particularly when he is in lineups alongside Milwaukee’s stars. Whatever that is, whatever that was, whatever I bring to the table, he just told me to go out there and be me. When asked by Katti about how he has fit in offensively, primarily off the ball, Carter’s answer may have caught some by surprise, given his defensive-oriented playstyle. Whether he is picking up opponents the full length of the floor or playing pestering one-on-one defense, Carter’s impact has been on full display over these first few games. The Milwaukee Bucks are 6-1 in games Jevon Carter has played with the franchise this season.

Riding a six-game win streak, the Milwaukee Bucks begin a four-game road trip tonight against the Golden State Warriors, who have had their own issues.

Even though Steph Curry has been underwhelming by his standards, he’s still capable of having those huge performances and you need to keep tabs on him when you’re defending. I don’t think you should expect another blowout, but the Warriors have struggled lately, going 4-9 in their last 13 games. This, of course, will be the second and final meeting between these two championship contenders.

NBA Odds: Bucks-Warriors predictions, odds, pick and more - 3/12 ... (ClutchPoints)

It's a potential NBA Finals preview as the Milwaukee Bucks head into San Francisco to take on the Golden State Warriors on a special NBA Saturday night ...

When these teams met last year in California, the Warriors edged the Bucks out by a point behind Curry’s 41 points but they also were playing the Bucks without Antetokounmpo, who was resting. But it all starts with how they play Antetokounmpo. The Warriors have gone 2-5 in their last seven games in which Antetokounmpo has started for the Bucks. They dominated the series earlier in Antetokounmpo’s career, but the tables have turned. This is the second year in a row that he has put up those numbers, and that makes him the second person in recent NBA history to accomplish that feat, as LeBron James was the only player to put up those consistent numbers. He has always been the final piece of the big three that the Warriors put out on the floor. The Bucks are also a powerhouse team that has a lot more to offer than Antetokounmpo. In their recent win over the Bulls, Khris Middleton and Bobby Portis both contributed 23 points on a 9 for 17 shooting performance. This showdown with the Bucks will be a legitimate challenge for them.

Bucks' Steph Curry strategy backfires in best way for Warriors (NBC Sports Bay Area)

Mike Budenholzer made sure Steph Curry couldn't get going against the Bucks. Maybe he forgot about the rest of the Warriors.

The 22-year-old scored 30 points, his seventh 30-point performance of the season and second in his last four games, and was a plus-26. But the Bucks face-guarding him and putting all their eggs in a basket that held Curry to only three buckets opened the floor for his teammates. His big night was a sense of relief for everyone involved with the Warriors, especially Wiggins himself. If the rest of the Warriors go cold, the strategy will pay off. For the Warriors, in their third straight win, it certainly did work. That gave him a new season-high and his most points since scoring 39 on March 8, 2019. The Bucks of course didn't plan on Klay scorching them all over the court. Thompson totaled 17 points in the second quarter. Well, Curry only scored a season-low eight points. The second quarter was a whole new ballgame. That gave him 21 points for the half. The Warriors came into the night a perfect 6-0 when Thompson scored at least 20 points this season.

Milwaukee vs. Golden State: Scorching Hot Klay Thompson Burns ... (Brew Hoop)

The Warriors ball movement bested the Bucks pressure. Steph Curry scored a season-low eight points as Bud dialed up the pressure with face-guarding up and down ...

Early on in his career, one of my favorite Giannis moves was when he would get into the post, drop step along the baseline and then unexpectedly dunk over his defender. I feel like we haven’t seen that move in some time, but this was a treat to see it broken out against Kuminga. Even though the game was already practically out of hand in the third, I did appreciate Giannis treating it like a playground in practicing his midrange jumper. Couple that with his triple from the corner still falling and you have to respect the yeoman-type player he’s been for Bud. I haven’t seen much of Ibaka as a distributor, so it was a nice play to see. The Warriors opted to mostly play him one-on-one, seeing if he could beat them singlehandedly, which was partially why he had only three assists.

Milwaukee opened up the game foul-happy, sending the Warriors to the line but counteracting it with hitting from behind the arc to tie it up at 28 after one period. Serge Ibaka is showing why the Milwaukee Bucks acquired him (Behind The Bucks Pass)

It was a bit of an awkward start to Serge Ibaka's Milwaukee Bucks tenure, but the veteran big man has hit his stride as of late.

Sure, nine of them came in two games, but it’s a good sign that he’s growing into his role and adapting to what the Bucks what to do in terms of crashing the offensive glass. He leads the Bucks in contested 2-point shots with 40 since the beginning of March. That would be on pace for around 200 fewer than what Lopez did last season. If we were asking these questions after his first seven games, I’d question whether Ibaka should have a role at all. The first is that he has shaken off that tentativeness from deep, taking eight 3s and shooting 62.5 percent in that limited sample. The other is that Ibaka has been fantastic on the offensive glass. Ibaka hadn’t looked great with the Los Angeles Clippers this season after coming back from offseason back surgery and that was to be expected.
