The show doesn’t premiere until May 25, but Disney has debuted the first trailer for the series and it’s full of tantalizing clues and Easter eggs.
Disney just released the first trailer for its 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Star Wars miniseries, and it could be hiding a huge surprise in plain sight.
Solo takes place sometimes between 13 and 10 BBY. Meanwhile, we know that Kenobi is set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith (which took place in 19 BBY), making this new show set in the year 9 BBY. In other words, Kenobi takes place almost immediately after Solo in the Star Wars timeline. First, remember that history in this galaxy is measured as Before and After the Battle of Yavin (BBY and ABY), essentially making A New Hope take place in year 0 of this franchise. Near the end of the Obi-Wan trailer, we see Inquisitor Reva (a brand new villain) facing against a figure cloaked in the shadows of a dark alley.

Even so, that silhouette alone is enough to induce a sense of fear only seen in a few villains, and as long as he sees ample screen time, Vader's wrath will be felt. But he is very much a part of the show emotionally for Obi-Wan, and possibly beyond that as well.” Obi-Wan Kenobi is all the rage for Star Wars fans as the wait continues for the franchise's second live-action property of the year.

Why it's Luke and Obi-Wan and our favorite Uncle Owen. They're all here!
And they said this would be different from the prequels. Plenty is going on in the Obi-Wan trailer and outside it. Aside from McGregor and, of course, Egerton, other prequel mainstays are returning for the series, including John Williams’ “Duel Of The Fates” and “Battle Of The Heroes” and Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader breath.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer packs a punch! It also features a few new characters, easter eggs, and some hints as to where this story is going...
While he doesn’t actually appear in the trailer, we know he’s coming. In an interview with EW, Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold described new planet Daiyu as “sort of having a Hong Kong feel to it…It’s got a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. Some fans are theorizing the shot above is of a Republic clone trooper. At one point in the trailer, we see what looks like two escape pods zooming through space. He originally appeared in Rebels, opposite the Seventh Sister, as one of the Inquisitors tasked with killing Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi turned rebel agent. It’s possible that a run-in with these Jedi hunters is what prompts Obi-Wan to leave Tatooine for the neon-drenched city streets of the planet Daiyu, which will talk more about in a second. We originally thought this was the Seventh Sister in live action, but the tendrils on her head suggest she’s actually a Tholothian character. The Grand Inquisitor, one of the most popular villains of the Disney era, is finally making his live-action Star Wars debut, played by Rupert Friend in very heavy makeup. When Revenge of the Sith closed the book on the Prequel Trilogy in 2005, it seemed like the actor’s turn as the Jedi Master was over. But what’s hidden can’t stay hidden for long, as we see in the first trailer, which sees the old hero jumping into the action when an evil faction of Jedi hunters comes to town. Even at that age, Luke’s dream is to become a pilot, and we see him pretending to fly a ship through space. When not secretly serving as Luke’s Jedi bodyguard, he rides his eopie (a species first introduced in The Phantom Menace) around the desert.

The trailer is light on details, but as Obi-Wan heads off-world, Sith Inquisitors — the Empire’s Force-sensitive Jedi hunters who also fight with lightsabers — are on his tail, and action ensues. The trailer includes a few glimpses of Obi-Wan’s life on Tatooine, but it’s more focused on his new missions as the protector of the Skywalker children. The official teaser trailer for the limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi is now out and I'd like to share my findings and thoughts with you!
A weird sight but probably not the last one of this kind that we’ll get to see. Just like the Sith bring chaos to everywhere they go, the Jedi bring hope and it becomes a way for their enemies to track them. It is obvious their need to find Obi-Wan is immense, we’ve already watched 3 Inquisitors and the Grand Inquisitor deployed on the same planet. Daiyu is a new planet for the series. A civilian has been hung; Reva is intimidating the people in the area. We all know Luke and Obi-Wan survive this, but I predict that we’ll get to see an even darker side of Darth Vader and this excites me and frightens me at the same time. In the next scene, a train is transporting a group of people, including Obi-Wan. My best guess is that they’re all workers coming back from a workday. A previously released concept art included an inside look of a structure that is way too similar to be a coincidence. The one and only “Duel of the Fates” returns to delight us. In the first 30 seconds, “Battle of the Heroes” can be heard in the background, it’s a different arrangement but it can’t be mistaken. Hopefully, it is a proper ending chapter for one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars. After months of waiting, we finally got to see a sneak peek of what the Kenobi series is all about.

The series is also set to introduce a new slate of characters, though a few could theoretically be portraying characters previously seen in the Star Wars canon, though nothing is confirmed yet. And based on the trailer, she's getting ready to unleash a truly incredible series. Expectations are high that we might also get a glimpse of the duo back before Anakin's fall when they were allies working alongside each other in the Jedi Order.

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen discuss their 17-year journey back to 'Star Wars', and what to expect when the dynamic duo reunites on 'Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"It was definitely conceived as a limited series, and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end," says Chow. "The approach has always been that it is one full story." "It was so important to have Hayden be a part of this project because he is such a massive part of that character," says Harold. "It was a priority to all of us that we did it with as much care as possible, so as to honor one of the greatest villains and antagonists in the history of entertainment." "Part of what made the series feel very special is that we were bringing back not only Ewan and Hayden, but people like Joel and Bonnie from 20 years ago and gettingt o reunite as the same characters." The Jedi order are being all but wiped out, and those Jedi that have survived are on the run and they're in hiding." But while everyone on set was marveling in his direction, the man behind the mask was moved by what he saw through his tinted helmet lenses: "The first time that I saw Ewan as Obi-Wan again, that was a very special moment for me, and one that I'll remember for a very, very long time." (And with a badass outfit: "Putting on a cape was a dream I didn't know I had. As the years moved on from the prequels, though, McGregor noticed a sense of balance coming to the Force. And the balance was coming from younglings… "And it's tricky when you're starting with a character in the state that Obi-Wan would be in coming off of Revenge of the Sith. That's a pretty bleak period of time. "Now I meet the people who we made those films for, who were the kids of the time," says McGregor. "And our Star Wars films are their Star Wars films. Critics and fans alike pounced on everything from the comic relief of Jar Jar Binks to clunky dialogue like "No need to report that to him until we have something to report." "I came round the set, and it was just this ring of people standing around." The warmth of your greeting left such a lasting impression and meant a lot."

In the original Star Wars film, Luke tells his uncle how R2-D2 claims to belong to Obi-Wan Kenobi, wondering if the droid means “Old Ben (Alec Guinness).” Owen replies by saying “that wizard’s just a crazy old man. Hyping his role in the series, the 47-year-old actor quoted a line spoken by the original Owen Lars’ (Phil Brown) in A New Hope. He captioned his post, "That wizard's just a crazy old man." The Grand Inquisitor‘s inclusion in the show adds to the list of characters from the canon animated series’ who have recently been adapted into the live-action projects. Lastly, another notable highlight of the trailer is that we get to see a cool new planet that looks like it’s stripped right out of Blade Runner — and I’m all for it. My guess is that the Grand Inquisitor and Darth Vader will be the two main antagonists of the series. This line of dialogue is obviously referring to the ending of Revenge of the Sith, where he and Yoda agree to accept the defeat of the Jedi Order and stay hidden until the time is right. Legendary composer and Star Wars regular John Williams is also set to compose the score. Also making his return to Star Wars for the first time since 2005 is Hayden Christensen, who will be reprising his role as Darth Vader. The limited series is set to premiere on Disney+ on May 25.
