The Seattle Seahawks had quite a Tuesday, agreeing to trade franchise icon and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a ...
And what would you be willing to do to go from the latter group to the former? It all served as a vivid reminder that success (and failure) in the NFL is determined by quarterback play more than ever. Flashback to earlier in the day when it was revealed that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers had come to an accord that will keep the four-time Most Valuable Player in Green Bay, likely on a reworked contract that could make him the highest-paid player in the game.
Let's set aside our initial shock and break it all down. Here are our staff-grades for the blockbuster deal with Denver. Patrick Olde Loohuis. In a shocking ...
Only a trade of this magnitude seems a fitting goodbye for one of the greatest to wear a Seahawks uniform. Wilson is a part-owner of the Sounders and involved in just about everything the Emerald City has to offer. Plus, the Seahawks won’t have to sweat a new break-the-bank contract for Wilson when it’s time to re-up the quarterback once again. For a player of Wilson’s caliber, there was never going to be anything resembling equal value, but getting at least three or four first rounders for the best player in franchise history could have helped soften the blow to the 12’s. That would be difficult to stomach for the fanbase of any NFL team. However, this is a massive if – and the trade largely looks like a mixed bag as a result.
Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, winning one, but had taken issue with being left out of personnel decisions.
With Wilson and his hefty contract heading to Denver, the Seahawks will now work on rebuilding what was one of the oldest rosters in the league last year. Wilson will be led by Coach Nathaniel Hackett, who was hired by the Broncos in January after working as an offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers for the past three seasons. The trade for Wilson was engineered by Broncos General Manager George Paton, and comes as the Denver franchise is set to be sold for the first time in nearly 40 years following the death of Pat Bowlen, the longtime team owner.
The Seahawks have agreed to trade quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos in exchange for three players and multiple draft picks, sources told ESPN's Adam ...
Wilson, according to a source, always planned on revisiting his concerns after the 2021 season. That includes base salaries of $19 and $22 million, with $5 million March roster bonuses in each year making up the remainder. Wilson's trade comes 13 months after his frustrations with the organization bubbled to the surface. Wilson sensed he was going to have to move on, and if he did, he wanted to be going to a winning program. But in recent days, as trade talks with Seattle heated up, it became clear that Wilson was the Broncos' Plan A. The Broncos and Packers have not discussed a Rodgers trade this offseason. One league source estimated the total to be over a dozen teams.
Russell Wilson traded to Broncos: Seahawks make blockbuster move to send Pro Bowl QB to Denver, per report.
Additionally, tight end Noah Fant is reportedly being sent to Seattle. While the other players involved still need to pass their physicals, Wilson has signed his no-trade clause provision, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, and passed his physical with the Broncos, so everything is official on his end. The era of Russell Wilson is over for the Seattle Seahawks. On Tuesday, the team agreed to trade Wilson to the Denver Broncos, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirms, after what is being reported as weeks of negotiations between the two sides.
The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks agreed on a blockbuster trade for quarterback Russell Wilson. Here is a timeline of events.
Reports around Russell Wilson and his relation with the Seattle Seahawks were merely ‘strained’ and no real word that Wilson was on the trade block ever leaked fully. Denver’s fortunes for the 2022 season instantly changed from bleak to Super Bowl aspirations. Early Tuesday morning on March 8, 2022, the NFL world received news that Aaron Rodgers would be going back to the Green Bay Packers and receiving a mega contract extension.
The Seahawks have agreed in principle on a trade sending nine-time Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson to the Broncos for a massive haul that includes multiple ...
The Broncos have improved their offensive line in recent seasons and have the building blocks of a potent offense. He started hot, then a finger injury caused him to miss the first games of his career, and he wasn't the same immediately after returning. But he caught fire again down the stretch, indicating the issues were related more to injury than any sort of decline.
Howie Roseman tried to get the one that got away.
The Seahawks are likely sending him to the AFC anyway. And that the Eagles actually even beat the Broncos comfortably in Denver last year. We all know how the self-proclaimed “QB Factory” highly values the position. The reality is that Russ found their situation more attractive ... despite the fact that Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Derek Carr are also in his new division. You know, despite the fact the Eagles have a better record than the Broncos over the past two years. - It’s a little funny to me how everyone likes to talk about how the Eagles are “too far away” to acquire a veteran quarterback such as Russ yet it seems like the consensus views Denver as a more understandable destination.
Like any seismic move, there were clear winners and losers from the Seahawks' decision to trade Russell Wilson to the Broncos.
He still is one of the top signal-callers in the league and gives Denver a chance to level the playing field with its division rivals. The Bucs, Saints and Commanders have a question mark at quarterback. The hiring of Josh McDaniels should help Carr elevate his game even further. The legendary quarterback claimed all year that he was being canceled for his vaccination views. Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford have won Super Bowls. Dak Prescott is 1-3 in his postseason career while Jalen Hurts and Kyler Murray both have made just one playoff start and were unimpressive on the big stage. There will be no division gimmes. The Seahawks' first-round picks since 2011 (that weren't traded away) are James Carpenter, Bruce Irvin, Germain Ifedi, Rashaad Penny, L.J. Collier and Jordyn Brooks. Yeeeeeesh. The NFC got weaker with Wilson's exit and the race for the No. 6 and No. 7 seed should be a bloodbath of mediocrity. Yes, Seattle got two first-round picks and two second-round picks. The Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons are unlikely to factor into the playoff conversation. hold on ... I'm being told the Seahawks' draft record has left a lot to be desired over the past few seasons. Wilson's move to Denver, which will be completed when the new league year begins, signals the dawn of a new era in the NFC and AFC West.
The NFL community reacts to the blockbuster trade that sent star QB Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday.
The Denver Broncos made a blockbuster trade for Russell Wilson. My thoughts on the trade, what it means for the franchise, and thoughts on next steps for ...
Are the Broncos now a Super Bowl contender? I think he’s got a possible long career ahead of him being a backup quarterback in the NFL. We watched that guy turn himself into one hell of a player here in Broncos Country. He’s a beast up front and his ability to bat down passes is going to be sorely missed by this fan (I can argue he’s the best in the league at it). Noah Fant on the other hand I think is a fine piece to trade away. Why are the Seahawks making this move? It can help with pass rush, crossing routes, and tight end coverage if we get the right guy. For me as a fan, I’m absolutely bat-shit ecstatic to watch the Broncos play football in 2022. I like Bolles, Risner, and Glasgow as a core. I do not think for even a second that the Broncos gave up too much. I wish him the best. Wilson is a quarterback in his prime who could play for another 10 years. Honestly, we probably threw in the 2023 2nd round pick so that the Hawks would take him off our hands.
