Cedar Rapids Washington's Hannah Stuelke is named Miss Iowa Basketball 2022 and headlines a list of eight area first-team IPSWA all-state players.
She averaged 18.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as the Comets went 19-5. Kurt, a sophomore, averaged 17.7 points and 4.8 assists per game. This year’s team went 21-4 as Goebel averaged 17.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game. The Warriors were edged in the Class 5A regional finals in 2021 and 2022 by a combined seven points. Fandel is one of only two freshmen to earn first-team honors in any class. Hard to believe, considering her school’s tradition in girls’ basketball, but Stuelke is the first Washington player to be so honored. Ball handling, that’s a big part of what I’m going to work on. She was the all-tournament captain as the Saints (20-6) won the 4A title, and led a balanced team in scoring at 13.0 points per contest. “I’m going to stay in shape. Joens, a junior and an Iowa State commit, averaged 21.3 points and 6.3 rebounds as City High (19-5) reached the 5A state tournament. Stuelke led the state in scoring this season at 29.1 points per game, and averaged 10.3 rebounds per contest as the Warriors went 16-7. A senior at Cedar Rapids Washington and a University of Iowa signee, Stuelke was selected as Miss Iowa Basketball 2022 during all-state voting Saturday by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Iowa continued its charge across the Big Ten by taking down 5-seed Indiana 74-67 in the Big Ten tournament championship game on Sunday, helping the Hawkeyes ...
"I know Coach Bluder said on the podium: We want to cut down more nets," Clark said. "To beat [Indiana] three times in a couple of weeks is really hard to do. "And obviously, coming here it's a clean slate." "We battled a lot of adversity, getting COVID, having a lot of games moved. "And coming into this Sunday, I wanted to do it all over again, with confetti this time." "Could have went in there and hung our heads.
Iowa was "right there" in the eyes of forward Keegan Murray. The Hawkeyes had two opportunities in the final 15 seconds to upset No.
"Once I got to distributing it just opened up for me to score and shoot the ball. "Patrick (McCaffery)'s not here (due to injury) so that gave more opportunity but (Sandfort) is a really good player," McCaffery said. With each passing game it's clear that the decision to start Perkins was the right one. "I feel like our effort defensively, especially in the first half, was really good," Murray said. In 15 minutes, Sandfort scored seven points (3-for-3 shooting) and had a nice pass to Keegan Murray that led to an easy dunk. "You can't come in here and get outrebounded by 29," McCaffery said. "But at the end of the day I'll continue to practice and bring everyone who was missing along with me so we can get better and make them in the long run." Tony Perkins pushed the ball up the court and found Keegan Murray off a screen, who swung it to Kris Murray for the potential game-winner. The aftermath of Sunday's loss is Iowa falls to fifth place in the final regular season standings and will not have a double bye in this week's Big Ten tournament. Their demeanor after the game from players to coach Fran McCaffery was positive and their hope is they can channel this loss into bounce back wins, much like they did in February. "You just hope your guys in that situation make the right read that gives your team a chance. And that was without starting forward Patrick McCaffery (hip injury) and starters Jordan Bohannon and Connor McCaffery going scoreless in the game.
Keegan Murray led the way with 22 on 7/22 shooting and 11 rebounds. Tony Perkins had another excellent game as a starter with 17 on 6/13, 12 (!!!) rebounds, and ...
They went just 10/19 at the rim, and the Murrays seemed a little wary driving, despite having Kofi on them at times. The first was a straight away three from Keegan Murray. He was fouled on the lower body but could only make one of three at the line with 15 seconds left. After all, Iowa shot 22 free throws in opposing territory and fouled out Andre Curbelo. But there were some real question marks on no calls, including the first of two closeouts from Cockburn. Keegan burned the possession launching a shot out of bounds after getting hit. (Or is that just me?) The State Farm Center certainly seemed to rattle Iowa at the line and applied a certain tentativeness to Iowa’s game. In the second, the Illini continued their torrid pace, snagging a lead inside of five minutes on three Alfonso Plummer free throws. Keegan Murray led the way with 22 on 7/22 shooting and 11 rebounds.

The Hawkeyes defeated Indiana, 74-67, in Sunday's conference tournament title game at Indianapolis' Gainbridge Fieldhouse to accomplish the feat.

Indiana will wait until next Sunday to see what seed it gets in the tournament. Sunday’s matchup marked Indiana’s second-ever appearance in the conference title game after having won the tournament in 2002. Junior forward Mackenzie Holmes also struggled with foul trouble on Sunday. She never fouled out, but picked up her fourth foul in the third quarter and had to adjust her defensive intensity for the rest of the game. She scored 10 of her 30 total points in the final frame to help her team close out the game. Czinano’s play in both the championship game and throughout the weekend earned her a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. She was joined by teammate sophomore guard Caitlin Clark, who scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Hawkeyes’ win. Senior center Monika Czinano took over for the Hawkeyes in the fourth quarter.

She is literally one basketball's biggest superstars. All of basketball. NCAA. NBA. WNBA. Clark is the first four names written on the opponent's scouting ...
As has been the case this year, Monika Czinano was ridiculous in the championship game. In this “off” game, Clark finished with a plus/minus of +12. She ended the game with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. She was Linus’ best friend and then some for this squad. There aren’t many players in the history of basketball where this would be considered a “bad” game. I described Martin as being the Security Blanket the other day. Not bad for one of the best basketball players on the planet. As the two seed, it was “expected” that the Hawkeyes would play in the final. The Hawkeyes are a very, very mentally tough group; this was evidenced by the fact that the Indianapolis crowd (and at times the referees) wanted the Hawks to fall flat. For the tournament Clark averaged 26 points per game, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Part of this is that she is impossible to guard. It was annoying that the TV crew mentioned 236 times how Caitlin Clark was struggling in the game. I was nervous to see how the Hawkeyes would respond after such an emotional win against Michigan to end the regular season.
1. Big game for Coleman Hawkins. There have been various games this season where the Illinois basketball team entered the matchup extremely shorthanded. On ...
Throughout the game, Hawkins was a matchup nightmare for Iowa. He was playing the No. 4 spot at 6-foot-10 and with a wingspan of 7-foot. He had a big game when Illinois needed him the most. That type of defense is what will help carry Illinois deep in the NCAA tournament. Hawkins has been playing some good basketball off the bench as of late. While I am not sure how long he will be missing, Grandison’s presence is huge for the Orange and Blue. It is hard to replace him. On Sunday afternoon, Nebraska took down Wisconsin to give the Illini a shot at the Big Ten regular season crown.

3PT 3PT 3PT 3PT 3PT 3PT With the Murray brothers clicking and scoring support from the likes of Perkins and Sandfort, Iowa is a daunting defensive assignment for any team. ''It wasn't set yet (when we arrived). We were still rebuilding and trying to figure things out, but as time went on, we continued to get culture guys, better players and guys who bought into what Coach Underwood wanted. Kris Murray added 13 points. ''Very impressed with the job that Brad has done with his crew, not only this year, but over the years since he got here.'' For Trent (Frazier) and DaMonte (Williams) to go out this way, this is why I do this.'' Iowa (22-9, 12-8) missed five of its first six shots but eventually got on a 13-0 scoring run.
