Michigan Loses On Senior Night (unknown)

After a big time win over Michigan State, Michigan didn't bring enough against Iowa.

The Wolverines will attempt to get another quad 1 win on Sunday in Columbus, which should be a win if Michigan's win-loss pattern holds true. Tonight, it was a loss in the final home game of the season, which is always a bummer. One of those wins for U-M was against Iowa in Iowa City, but unfortunately, the Hawkeyes haven't lost since.

That's a good foot to the left of the goal. This will put the Buckeyes and Hoosiers in the semifinal opposite Iowa's side of the bracket. Clark made sure to take five or six shots from the very corner of the court, you know, just in case. Gainbridge Fieldhouse has been cleared out and is getting a clean-up before the evening session. But at least two looks at the rim have spun out. An OK Iowa half considering the foe. The Wildcats open their stay by beating Minnesota Thursday evening. Hawkeyes getting decent looks early against Northwestern's defense. Tough runner gets the Big Ten player of the year on the board. Iowa only had six in each of the Northwestern matchups. Hawkeyes only hit six threes apiece in each of the Northwestern games this season. Hawkeyes finally have a sliver of separation here in the 3Q. Iowa on a 6-0 run and showing great patience on the entry passes to Monika Czinano. She's got 16.

Michigan basketball returns to consistent inconsistency with 82-71 loss to Iowa (unknown)

Michigan basketball fell behind early and trailed by 17 at halftime in a familiar loss to Iowa, 82-71, on Thursday in Ann Arbor.

"I think we just need to work on that a little bit more, especially the finding shooters in transition part." Those back-to-back 3s early in the second half pushed the Hawkeyes' lead to 19. Coach Fran McCaffery's team made eight of its 12 shots as Murray buried three consecutive 3-pointers to the chagrin of a sparse crowd. "And calling it the way it is, we didn’t have emotional commitment to start the game." He buried a 3 against Michigan's full-court press when assistant coach Saddi Washington tried to change the defense. Improved offensive displays against Illinois and Michigan State shrouded unsightly second halves in which the Illini shot 70.8% from the field and the Spartans managed 51.2% in defeat. Iowa shot 52.6% from the field and finished 11-of-19 from 3-point range on a night U-M made seven 3s. He made personal runs of 5-0 and 6-0 to keep his team afloat. They wondered how this group of Wolverines — once ranked in the top 10 and selected as preseason favorites to win the Big Ten — could find consistency so hard to achieve. He has won more games than any player in program history and returned to Ann Arbor for a fifth season to pursue another Big Ten title — and more. "I’m disappointed that I was not able to deliver for those seniors," Martelli said. As its season teetered, the question haunted Michigan basketball for the better part of three months.

The Wildcats went on an 8-0 run in attempt to battle back, but the Hawkeyes came away with a 13-point victory. Junior McKenna Warnock started the fourth quarter off with a steal, to give Martin an easy bucket. Iowa went on an 8-0 run, with Martin getting it started, forcing a Northwestern turnover to finish with a jumper on the offensive end. Junior Gabbie Marshall joined the fun, grabbing a steal of her own to finish with a layup to get the crowd on their feet. Clark did what she does best, making four of her five 3-pointers in the second quarter and leading Iowa its first lead of the game. Redshirt junior Kate Martin scored a season-high 15 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and from the free-throw line in the second half.

Iowa Knocks Off Michigan Thursday For 5th Win in.a Row.

The move of Bohannon back to point guard has opened up this offense. Let the momentum get away, and never get it back, is something that ends your season in a one-and-done tournament format. But the Hawkeyes never let them get any closer. He added seven rebounds and three assists. He made all four of his 3-pointers. The Hawkeyes did that in a road game against a Michigan team that was just a couple of days off a big home win over Michigan State.

Ohio State’s form is as up and down as Michigan State and Michigan - lose at home to Iowa, win over Indiana, win at Illinois (!!), lose at Maryland (?), and lose to Nebraska (??). What the hell? I’m going to pretend the last game of the night didn’t happen, though I must say...15-straight wins in games decided by 6 or less, plus a banked 3 from the wing to win the league (plus another banked, off-balance 3 a couple of possessions earlier. That loss dropped Ohio State into a tie for 4th with Iowa, which puts Iowa into the double-bye spot due to the head-to-head win over the Buckeyes. That also means Iowa needs to win out to secure the 4th seed OR have Rutgers fall to Penn State in their finale.] Then the cherry on top - a team that figured to be cannon fodder the last week of the year goes to Columbus and wins, 78-70. He had 13 points and 5 rebounds in the first game with the Wolverines, so a healthy Patrick would be a plus. They’re still in the tournament on most brackets projections, with some having them as high as the 8/9 game, but they still have work to do. Iowa doesn’t have much of an answer for Dickinson – he had 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in the first game – though Filip Rebraca battled admirably and had 12 points and 6 rebounds of his own against that big line. We saw how they frustrated Iowa in the first game with length and athleticism, altering numerous shots around the rim. They already dropped the first game of this stretch, losing to Illinois, but bounced back to pummel Michigan State Tuesday night. Of course, the first game was a line of demarcation for both clubs. Iowa continues to be the hottest team in the league, capping a 7-1 February with an easy 82-61 win over Northwestern Monday night.

“I have a lot of respect for how she plays the game.” Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder called Martin a “difference-maker” in the win. Who can get that rest and eat and mentally get ready?” Bluder said. “But it was more than that,” Bluder said. “But once we get into the swing, boy is it fun.” “We knew shots were going to start going down,” guard Caitlin Clark said.
