Sixers sign DeAndre Jordan as backup center, release Willie Cauley ... (NBC Sports)

The Sixers on Thursday signed DeAndre Jordan for the rest of the season and released Willie Cauley-Stein. By Noah Levick.

“He’s another guy that’s played three games and knows very little of what we’re doing," Rivers said Wednesday of Millsap. “He has a pretty high basketball IQ, does some pretty good things. He just becomes an instigator with the way he plays. He runs the floor, he rebounds. Jordan will be able to play in the postseason, since Tuesday was the playoff-eligibility waiver deadline. “He was great," Rivers said following the Sixers' Feb. 12 win over the Cavs. “He really was. He only appeared three times for the Lakers since Jan. 15 and is not the athlete he was during the Clippers' "Lob City" era.

Any time he gets an opportunity to show his appreciation to the Sixers faithful, he does. I just want to do whatever it takes to get the win." On Wednesday, the Sixers were set to host the Knicks for the final time this season in what became Harden's South Philly debut. Sure enough, Harden took the court with his Sixers teammates for the first time last Friday night.

Jordan was also briefly a teammate of Sixers forward Tobias Harris while both players were with the Clippers. But his production has steadily dropped off in recent seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Lakers. He also led the NBA in field-goal percentage five consecutive seasons from 2012-17, ranked first in the league in rebounding two consecutive seasons from 2013-15 and was an All-Star from 2016-17.

The Sixers' James Harden is on pace to pass Reggie Miller on the ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Harden, who has hit the ground running in Philly, could complete yet another feat on Friday. He will sit three shots behind Miller entering Friday's game ...

Harden was traded to the Houston Rockets on Oct. 27, 2012, and turned into a high-scoring, perennial All-NBA selection. The Eastern Conference’s third-place Sixers will look to beat the fifth-place Cavs (36-26) for the second time is as many meetings this season. So after getting off to a 3-0 start with Harden, things are about to get tougher. Clearly no one thought he was the offensive player that he turned into when he went to Houston. Harden racked up accolades in Houston, including the 2018 MVP, three scoring titles, six All-NBA first-team selections and eight All-Star appearances. Harden has played in three games since being acquired from the Brooklyn Nets in a trade on Feb. 10. “So in some ways, he got a late start on it. He made five three-pointers in his Sixers debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday. Then Harden had three three-pointers against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday before making two against the Knicks in Wednesday’s home debut. “I think No. 1 is definitely going to be hard to catch. “[Third] all-time in NBA history, that’s definitely a huge accomplishment,” Harden said. And I’ll do whatever it takes to try to catch Steph. [It’s] going to be] difficult, man.” Curry overtook Hall of Famer Ray Allen (2,973) for the lead on Dec. 14.

James Harden 'very vocal' from the jump with Sixers, pushing Tyrese ... (NBC Sports)

James Harden has taken on a "very vocal" role with the Sixers and wants to see the ever-rising Tyrese Maxey play with consistent aggression. By Noah Levick.

“We need him to be aggressive a lot of times in the game,” Harden said. “I’m very vocal, try to do my best as far as being a leader by example on the court. I’ve got to help these guys out and we’ve got to help these guys out as a team as much as possible.” “He shows up — it doesn’t matter whether it’s a back-to-back or not — he’s going to show up the next day at 8 in the morning. Just survey the room, see who’s in it, see what you have and try your best to fit in or, for me, be the best James Harden I can be in every aspect.” He knocked down step-back three-pointers, unleashed his unique speed and enabled the Sixers to avoid catastrophe in the non-Embiid minutes.

Sixers' Doc Rivers opens up on what it's like to coach James Harden (Sixers Wire)

PHILADELPHIA–James Harden came to the Philadelphia 76ers with extremely high expectations. The Sixers were already contenders before Harden, ...

Eventually, something will be brought up to try and tear them apart a bit, and when that time comes, Rivers and Harden will have to handle that. When you have a group of guys that want to be coached that there’s great cooperation from players to coaches, you have a really excellent chance of winning. He wants to talk about the game. This is a claim that he has denied since joining Philadelphia, but it is still a reputation that he carried with him. So far, Harden has focused on the team aspect. PHILADELPHIA–James Harden came to the Philadelphia 76ers with extremely high expectations.

Sixers vs. Knicks: James Harden picks up a comeback win in home ... (NBC Sports)

James Harden helped the Sixers come back Wednesday night and notch a 123-108 win over the Knicks in his home debut. By Noah Levick.

Harris picked up his third foul early in the third quarter and then experienced a rough offensive patch. Embiid then drained a three assisted by Harden on the Sixers’ next possession and the team’s deficit was suddenly just one point. He turned the ball over three times before halftime, disagreed with several whistles, and picked up a technical foul in the second quarter. You have to be willing to miss four or five in a row and believe the next one’s going in, because I put enough time and practice in to know that it’s going in. Embiid grinned after seeing Maxey make a difficult three to extend the Sixers' lead to 112-99 in the fourth quarter. “I continue to tell Jo, he’s so used to dribbling it up and having to go one-on-one, which he’s great at," Harden said. Despite Rivers indicating pregame that Willie Cauley-Stein would get a chance in the rotation soon, the 28-year-old did not play until the final minute and 15 seconds. Maxey's presence was massive as he lifted the Sixers with an aggressive mindset and step-back three. The Sixers outscored the Knicks by two points in Millsap's second-half minutes, which felt like a huge win given the team's continued defensive shakiness. The floater attempt was an open one after a nice double drag action with Tobias Harris and Embiid. Harden also committed a turnover trying an audacious, full-court pass for Matisse Thybulle. Jericho Sims grabbed an offensive board and laid the ball in to put New York ahead 18-9. Harden’s five steals and the Sixers managing to force frequent New York turnovers covered up some of the team’s defensive issues Sunday against the Knicks, but stops look quite tough to string together when Embiid and Thybulle are out. You look around and, ‘We love you, James.’ That right there makes me go out there and play harder, and I just wanted to do whatever it takes to get the win.”

Embiid Reflects on 'The Process' and Burner Gate as Sixers Start ... (Sports Illustrated)

Joel Embiid joined the Philadelphia 76ers during a dark time. Not only for the organization but for himself as well. Going into the 2014 NBA Draft, Embiid.

During that span, the Sixers are 3-0 as Harden has uplifted Embiid and the rest of the team. "I think it all goes back to the culture that we built and the system that we have in place," Embiid explained. The Sixers were tested again this season as their former first-overall pick Ben Simmons grew disgruntled and demanded a trade. And now, the bond of the organization is stronger than ever. He's also lost some of the players he's built a strong bond with over the years through trades and the free agency market. There were skeptics, but the Sixers remained confident and loyal in their big man. Even though Embiid burst on the scene and dominated as he was expected to, the big man lasted just 31 games before another injury popped up shut him down for the year. While two head coaching changes aren't out of the ordinary, the entire staff itself has seen a lot of turnover during the eight years Embiid's been around. Embiid was slated to miss his entire first season in the NBA. Embiid could've been that guy, but a foot injury derailed his ride to becoming the top draft selection that offseason. And it wasn't until the 2016-2017 season when Embiid finally made his NBA debut. Going into the 2014 NBA Draft, Embiid anticipated becoming the No. 1 overall pick.
