Euphoria's Season 2 Finale Was the Last Episode I'll Ever Watch (Slate Magazine)

A hot mess of a finale leaves lots of questions, and little reason to care about the answers.

The show began as a Zendaya vehicle—as it should; her charisma and commitment as Rue are the main reasons to watch—but organically evolved into a survey of the extreme paths that impressionable teens (girls, in particular) can venture down. While the penultimate episode offered a glimmer of hope in a self-referential, over-the-top school play that gave the underutilized Lexi (Maude Apatow) more screen time than she’s had for the entirety of the series, it ultimately undermined the story and the series. Or will he end up in jail for a murder he didn’t commit—or another one that he did? By last night’s season finale, however, this detour proved to be one of the only storylines that achieved any kind of satisfying arc and, importantly, promise for any future progression. These were grim fates that the season premiere portended for these characters. Instead of pulling back the curtain on what Euphoria High’s messiest students had been up to in the interim, the season began with a self-contained backstory.

The Best & Wildest Theories About 'Euphoria' Season 3 (Bustle)

Maddy teaming up with Jules to take Nate down? Yes please! Zendaya as Rue in 'Euphoria.' She's wearing her signature red hoodie and sitting. Eddy Chen/HBO.

One Reddit user theorizes that Maddy made a copy of Cal’s tape with Jules, and she plans to eventually team up with her to take down the Jacobs family. Another user also suggested that Maddy might have even been recording the moment when Nate broke into her room with a gun, and she’s just waiting for the right time to turn that over to the police. We know Maddy had an unhappy childhood, and she probably wants to escape everything that happened with Cassie and Nate. Are Maddy’s last words to Cassie actually just a final warning to watch out for Nate because she’s leaving? But we also know Rue’s mom, Leslie, gave her a pretty strong ultimatum: once Rue turns 18 she has to leave the house so Leslie can focus on taking care of Gia. With most of the characters heading into their senior year of high school, there’s a chance that Season 3 will bring a sense of closure. Euphoria has been renewed for Season 3, and there are already some predictions to be made about what’s to come when the show returns.

Everything We Know About Euphoria Season 3 (Screen Rant)

Euphoria season 2 picks up sometime after the events of the season 1 finale, with Rue having relapsed and still estranged from her (now ex-) girlfriend Jules ...

This puts a Euphoria season 3 release date in the late-2023 range at the earliest. If it does return in 2024, expect Euphoria season 3 to premiere very early in the year akin to Euphoria season 2. From Fez's downfall and his response to the death of Ashtray to Cassie and Maddy's relationship (and the former's romance with Nate), there's plenty to mine for Euphoria season 3. Euphoria received a season 3 pickup just a few weeks into its second season run, making it clear that HBO is banking on the show as one of its biggest hits. Dominic Fike, who debuted in Euphoria season 2 as Elliot, a new friend of Rue's, recently revealed that we will "absolutely" be seeing Elliot in season 3. Despite these flaws, though, the confidence with which the show operates indicates that Euphoria season 3 could top its predecessor in ways that are both good and bad.

Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Angus Cloud Are Dishing On <em ... (Esquire.com)

After a major cliffhanger, HBO's teen drama Euphoria has been renewed for more episodes. Here's what we know so far about season 3, including what it'll be ...

In the finale, we see the feds show the Fez-Ash bunker their full force, prompting the little guy to launch into a full firefight in defense of his brother. We hope that Rue and Elliot find some way to work through the bad for each other thing and become friends again. (Inspired by Lexi's play, of course.) In that light, you can't blame us for hoping that Season Three shows us the next phase of Rue's recovery—which hopefully includes a full apology to Jules. Apparently, Zendaya agrees with us. That means that we could either be in for more bridge episodes—a la Rue and Ali's hour-long diner conversation—or a third season sometime next year. When we left Euphoria Season One, there was no doubt that the focus was on Rue and Rue alone. Since we can't stomach the thought of another two-year break between season, let us wildly speculate about what's in store for the future of Euphoria. Here's everything we know so far.

'Euphoria' Season 3: QTNA (Complex)

Just looking at the Rue-Jules-Elliot situation, there are a few open-ended strands left dangling. That's not even bringing up Nate, Cassie and Maddy's drama, ...

The little moment of reconciliation that Rue and Elliot shared was cute, albeit a little longwinded, but the main thing I kept asking myself through his exhaustive song was if Elliot was going to tell her that he got with her girlfriend? There’s definitely more to him than that, and hopefully, the nuisances of his character will be explored in Season 3. He hasn’t received a cold open, there’s been no explanation as to where he’s been the entire time in Season 1, and his sudden appearance still feels a little bit suspect. It really feels like Season 3 is shaping up to be a story of Rue figuring things out, only for her world to fall on her again, and this time not directly because of her addiction. With Ashtray gone, we’re left with one of two situations: A) Ashtray is a Jacobs boy, and that secret can stay safe now that he’s not around, or B) the kid is definitely not Ashtray, and the mystery remains. We didn’t get to see the extent of the Maddy and Cassie fight (which is super progressive on their part to choose not to show young women physically assaulting each other over a guy), but we do see the aftermath of them talking in a bathroom. It’s only the beginning.” It’s unclear if she’s referring to their beef or if she meant Cassie’s tumultuous relationship with Nate. No one understands the on-and-off cycle of a relationship with Nate better than Maddy. Cassie might have seemed remorseful with a bloody nose in the girl’s bathroom surrounded by her former friends, but something tells me that she will have a bag already packed in the event Nate sends a random text one night saying, “I’ll be outside in 15 minutes.” We all want better for our girl, but the heart wants what it wants. Someone was going to take the rap, and it looks like Fez got his wish...and his DNA is all over the knife that stabbed Custer. Will we only see Fez dealing with life behind the wall? She literally threatened to traffick Rue in the event that she wasn’t able to pay off her debt in cash. I think it was important that he was telling the truth in that moment.”] If he didn’t, since Jules is underage, there’s a chance she will be involved with the case. To be honest, it was only a matter of time; Mouse’s murder was a dark cloud hanging over the entirety of this season, and frankly, there’s always some kind of danger looming for those in his line of business. Nate gave Jules the disc with her video on it, so we don’t truly know if he left it out of the USB he gave to the authorities.

Will There Be a 'Euphoria' Season 3? Seven Questions That Need ... (Newsweek)

"Euphoria" Season 3 is what everybody is talking about after the explosive Season 2 finale on HBO Max.

Fans were heartbroken to see he was still holding the card he had written for Lexi. Ashtray did not stop there, instead of taking Fez's instructions to run, knowing the police were on their way, Ashtray decided to arm himself with various weapons and lock himself in the bathroom. Here's hoping Nate did hand over the USB drive and perhaps Cal will be behind bars in Season 3. Hopefully, their relationship will be explored in Season 3. As expected, armed police stormed Fez's home and a shootout ensued between Ashtray who was hiding behind the bathroom door in the bath, and the police. I don't know if that's actually true though, I think I was high for too much of it, and I know it wasn't easy for her. Rue eventually had to come face to face with Jules after avoiding her for so long. The good news is the finale set up the show perfectly for a third season but also left many questions unanswered much to the frustration of fans. Nate confronted his father, gun in hand and armed with a USB stick which contained "everything" Cal had ever done. Unfortunately, there will be a bit of wait until Euphoria Season 3 lands on screens. In between Seasons 1 and 2, two special episodes were released to keep fans in suspense. Sundays are going to feel a whole lot different for the foreseeable future after Euphoria Season 2 came to an end on Sunday, February 27.
