Green Bay Packers GM says he never promised to trade Aaron ... (ESPN)

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said the team is unified in its desire for Aaron Rodgers to return but that he never promised the reigning two-time MVP that he ...

So it's important as we go through this and the puzzle pieces we have to try to make fit. On Tuesday, Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show that he still has things to think about before making a decision about an 18th season. I think the one thing that I know for sure is Aaron takes this stuff very seriously. Instead, the GM pointed at the inability of other facets of the team to pick up for a substandard performance by another unit -- in this case special teams. "That was not something I told him," Gutekunst, who has full control over roster moves, said in a separate session Wednesday with writers who cover the team. General manager Brian Gutekunst on Wednesday, however, said he never promised Rodgers he would trade him after the 2021 season.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst: Aaron Rodgers domino 'has to fall ... (NFL.com)

Everything in Green Bay this offseason hinges on Aaron Rodgers' decision. A fact that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst conceded when talking to ...

"But when the pandemic hit, if we were going to continue to be that way, we were going to have to do some different things. ... We've always been about championships here, that's all that matters, Super Bowls. And when the pandemic hit, obviously with our team, to be able to keep it together, we were going to have to do things differently. Green Bay might find itself in a similar situation in the future, but if the Packers can keep Rodgers and Adams, finally get over the hump and win a Super Bowl, it will have been worth the trouble. This is how franchises are now operating when they have elite quarterbacks, but don't have the advantage of plenty of time left. Gutekunst, however, said he did not communicate any agreement to trade Rodgers if the QB still wanted out after the 2021 campaign, as has been reported. "I think the conversations after the season were very impactful. The Packers wouldn't do themselves any favors by tagging Adams and using an option that players dislike, as it prevents them from both cashing in and receiving long-term security. The Packers' hands are essentially tied until Rodgers makes a definitive decision on his future, one the quarterback said after the 2021 season would arrive fairly quickly. Green Bay has the franchise tag available at its disposal, but it's nothing more than a last-ditch option to prevent Adams from hitting free agency, where he'd undoubtedly field lucrative offers. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is well aware of this fact and is not interested in moving Rodgers for a hefty return. It's a domino that has to fall before we go down other avenues. That's kind of how we do things," Gutekunst said Wednesday. "It's a big piece.

'He makes this whole thing go': Packers GM determined to keep ... (USA TODAY)

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst made clear that he would love Aaron Rodgers to be his starting quarterback in 2022.

Gutekunst said his desire to retain Rodgers was not a reflection of Jordan Love’s development. On Tuesday, he said the impetus for change came from a conversation following a walkthrough early in training camp, where he and Gutekunst hashed out their differences. Gutekunst knows it will take both sides for Rodgers to play for the Packers in 2022. “Because,” Gutekunst said, “I think we’ve got as good of a shot as anybody to go win a Super Bowl next year. Any of the conversations that we had were impactful about how I felt about our football team. “As we kind of got toward the playoffs,” Gutekunst said, “this was as good as I felt about really any of the teams that we had, as far as our overall strength. It could be tempting to make a quarterback change now, not only with Rodgers’ inability to deliver in the playoffs, but with his off-field antics. This offseason could be a rebirth for the franchise. The GM isn’t ready to let go of the 30-year title window many outside 1265 Lombardi Avenue forecast could be coming to a close. Eventually, Gutekunst said, he’ll break down Rams 23, Bengals 20 like every year, the necessary maintenance to ensure the Packers learn from last season’s champion. Gutekunst watched with his face in his iPad, trying to not pay attention, as two teams the Packers beat last season played for a Lombardi Trophy he believed his team was good enough to win. At halftime, he explained to his son how Snoop Dogg wasn’t just an old guy on the mic, but actually really cool.

The Packers quarterback introduced the football world to Panchakarma during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

Panchakarma is associated with Ayurveda, an alternative medicine system rooted in India that dates back thousands of years. But beyond what Rodgers detailed in his conversation with McAfee, what exactly is Panchakarma? After sending Twitter into a frenzy with a cryptic Instagram post Monday night, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to offer some clarity on his future plans—sort of. It's kind of a re-centering, it not only heals you physically but I think it takes away mental stress.

"There was a lot to kind of unpack in some of the postseason exit interviews," Rodgers said when asked about the report. I would say the meetings were much different than they've been in the past in a positive way and that there were some real honest conversations that I appreciated. Obviously, I want to feel certain about it and when I do, I'll make a decision, and we'll just move on and move forward." "…I just wanted to make sure I got to see a lot of those people who I knew had the possibility of either moving on or getting other opportunities. "I get it, there's not a lot to talk about football-wise and this'll be a topic of conversation. "In Green Bay, there's this one specific guy who's like the best guy in the entire league at what he does, that wears, like, I think No. 17, you might've heard of him.

He did at least provide that Davante Adams’ fate will likely play a role in deciding what he does, which is better than nothing, but this post isn’t about Aaron the football player. Aaron explained things in his typical way on the most recent episode of the Pat McAfee show, and while Aaron being Aaron is certainly not unexpected, it’s clear he still enjoys trolling people more than providing useful information. Aaron Rodgers is no exception and his recent Instagram post caused quite a stir, as it read as equal parts retirement letter, thank you card, and apologia.

Will Packers trade Aaron Rodgers? GM and QB describe offseason ... (Sporting News)

Rodgers told McAfee on Tuesday that a lot of the issues with the team last offseason had to do with improving communication. "Obviously everything around here kind of centers around the quarterback," Gutekunst said. It seems, though, the Packers are certainly exploring ways to keep not only Rodgers in Green Bay, but his favorite wide receiver, Davante Adams, as the team prepares to navigate a tricky cap space situation. Gutekunst did go so far as to deny reports from the last offseason that there was an agreement between team and quarterback that if Rodgers wanted to leave that the Packers would move him after the 2021 season. I knew that I had to grow, as well. "At the same time, it wasn't a one-way street."

Jimmy Garoppolo: 4 trade partners if Aaron Rodgers retires (Niner Noise)

The 49ers may wait to decide on trading Jimmy Garoppolo until Aaron Rodgers decides his future, potentially pushing these four teams into the fray.

Rodgers’ status is still very much up in the air, yet he remains a No. 1 quarterback to watch on the offseason trade-rumor mill. But, should Rodgers ultimately decide to call it a career, the offseason quarterback market would be shaken up once more, opening the door to some other teams who might now have to turn to Jimmy G as a potential contingency option. Both the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have made it noticeably clear the veteran signal-caller is going to be dealt this offseason to a new team by the way of a trade.
