We found no evidence of Salmonella Newport," Abbott Nutrition said in a news release The third infection was from Salmonella, a group of bacteria that can cause digestive illness and fever. The investigation is underway.
The infant formula may have been contaminated with either Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport, two not very friendly bacteria.
Clearly, the brain is not a good place to have an infection. If you do have meningitis, brain imaging can help determine if you have a brain abscess or other complications. Thoroughly clean anything that may have touched the product as it may have contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport as well. After all, most infants won’t be able to say, “dude, I think I have a Cronobacter infection and therefore can’t finish this hot dog.” And parents may not always take an infant to the doctor’s office to get tested for such an infection, unless the infection happens to cause severe problems. Don’t lick the bottle or otherwise put it close to your mouth. Nevertheless, Cronobacter is not a good thing to go down an infant’s hatch. I’ve covered for Forbes many of these outbreaks, including one in August 2021 that may have affected your meat, so to speak. Make sure that the lid is on tightly first and the bottle is not being held directly over your friend’s head. All infant formula products are tested for Cronobacter sakazakii, Salmonella Newport and other pathogens and they must test negative before any product is released.” So if you are an infant being fed baby formula, an adult feeding baby formula to an infant, or an adult who is for some reason drinking baby formula, it’s a good idea to check whether your formula was made from Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powder. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been investigating four cases of infants being hospitalized in three different states. Here’s a tweet from the FDA about the warning:
The FDA warned parents not to use certain Similac, Alimentum and EleCare formula products linked to bacterial contamination amid reports of hospitalizations ...

"No action is needed for previously consumed product. The recall affects certain products with expiration dates of April 1, 2022, or later. "All four cases related to these complaints were hospitalized and Cronobacter may have contributed to a death in one case." (Provided image / Abbott) Officials said do not use the product if the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37, the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2, and the expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later.

The bacterium may have contributed to a death in one case, the agency said. The recall, which comes during a drastic baby food shortage, affects certain lots of Similac, Alimentum and EleCare with expiration dates of April 1, 2022, or later. Three of the complaints concerned Cronobacter sakazakii, a bacterium that can cause severe, life-threatening infections or inflammation of the membranes that protect the brain and spine. The F.D.A. is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with federal and local authorities in Minnesota, Ohio and Texas in its investigation. In its statement announcing the recall, Abbott said that it conducts “routine testing for Cronobacter sakazakii and other pathogens.” The recall does not apply to Abbott products manufactured in other facilities, the company said.
The recall comes after four consumer complaints about infant illnesses related to Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella bacteria. In all four cases, infants were ...
