The actress opens up about the pain of losing her brother Devan to accidental fentanyl poisoning and why she wants to raise awareness about the issue.
"The 4th of July was his birthday, and the fireworks are all for him," she jokes. "I would be on set and then go to dance rehearsals. "One of the most beautiful things about my brother was that he always wanted to do good, and to never judge people," she says. "I feel like he was the most least judgmental person I ever met. She continues: "This was something that really meant a lot to him. "It was very unexpected and obviously an accident," says the actress, 19.
How could they make two movies about a girl who is tall? The answer is: badly.
Stig, for example, flip-flops from wanting to be with Jodi, to wanting to be popular instead, to wanting to be with Fareeda, at a whiplash-inducing rate, suggesting that once he no longer served the single purpose of Jodi’s impetus for character development, he no longer served a purpose at all. Suspension of disbelief has to be exercised pretty extensively to believe that a girl could go from so insecure that she hides in classrooms, to avoid being looked at in the hallway, to signing up for the lead role in her school musical overnight. This storyline bodes well for the continuation of her insecure-to-confident arc (and I’m just gonna choose to ignore the fact that she is, randomly, an incredible dancer). She’s never had a boyfriend, she does just about everything she can think of to fly under the radar and just she can’t seem to walk down her high school hallway without some smartass asking her “How’s the weather up there?” While watching the first Tall Girl, I did my best to ignore the nagging feeling that this was truly a Netflix-has-run-out-of-ideas movie, and just enjoy it for what it is, which is essentially a by-the-books teen rom-com. Stig’s sister Stella (Johanna Liauw) visits town from Sweden, too, and her presence is never justified beyond my suspicion that the filmmakers simply wanted another addition to a quirky cast of characters whose options had already been exhausted. Christopher Nolan’s Inception solidified its status as a bonafide Good Movie simply by virtue of it being about dream warfare, as did Ridley Scott’s Alien when he pitched it to the studios as “Jaws in Space.” But occasionally, a movie will come along that has a premise so weak that it’s nearly impossible for it to redeem itself.
You think your life is hard? I'm a high school junior wearing size 13 Nikes. Men's size 13 Nikes. Beat that,” says Jodi, the protagonist of Netflix's “Tall ...
At the end of the day, people like Jodi have an upperhand in the real world, and trying to pretend that Jodi faces true societal backlash just for being tall is simply misleading. “Tall Girl” became infamous for its bad writing and ridiculous premise, but it still got a ton of attention. Being a certain race has the potential to limit one’s opportunities in education, housing, financial well-being, careers and general quality of life. Netflix’s decision to release a sequel to the original “Tall Girl” film, places salience on the comparatively minute struggles of privileged members of society. Not only are Jodi’s problems trivial, but the problems of those around her are trivial as well. Aside from some low-grade teasing from her classmates, Jodi’s hurdles and character development throughout the film are underwhelming.
Tall Girl 2's narrative sees Jodi navigate her newfound popularity and relationship with Jack, but how does the Netflix coming-of-age rom-com end?
Although there is no official word yet from Netflix on the status of Tall Girl 3, a third movie in the series does seem increasingly likely. This gesture, coupled with his declaration of love for Jodi, hints that Jack has done enough to earn her character's forgiveness, although Tall Girl 2 still ends on something of a cliffhanger as far as the pair's relationship is concerned. An intriguing subplot to Tall Girl 2 is Stig Mohlin's redemption from the first film. One of the more jarring aspects of Tall Girl 2 is Jodi's decision not to pursue new love interest Tommy Torres despite the pair's obvious chemistry. Tall Girl ends with Jack finally revealing why he always carries a milk crate by using it to kiss the eponymous "tall girl" Jodi. Yet from the outset of Tall Girl 2, Jack's infatuation for his new girlfriend becomes more and more stifling, with the pair eventually breaking up mid-way through the movie. Early indications suggest Tall Girl 2 will be just as popular for Netflix, with several media outlets tracking its release down to the hour on February 11th, 2022.
Get to know Jan Luis Castellanos, the actor who plays Tommy in Tall Girl 2 on Netflix, Jodi's new love interest.
Originally born in the Dominican Republic, Castellanos moved to New Jersey with family when he was a young boy. He may be playing a high school in the movies but in real life, Jan Luis Castellanos is a 26-year-old actor. After she finally stood up to her bullies, who mocked her for being so very tall, Jodi is now one of the most popular girls in school.
After Tall Girl 2 on Netflix, will there be another sequel of the teen romantic comedy movie series? Here's the latest updates on Tall Girl 3.
Personally, we wouldn’t mind a third movie to bring the story to a final conclusion. Could there be a Tall Girl 3? Tall Girl first premiered on Netflix in September 2019 and stars Ava Michelle as Jodi Kreyman, a teenager who happens to be of extraordinary height.
