New Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel affirmed that he is "extremely proud" to be biracial while addressing his upbringing in an interview with ESPN.
"I think what I was saying [Thursday] is that you have to come to a realization at some point, you have to have a comfort level, you have to have a resolution when you're younger and you have these odd things happening to you," he said. As he grew up with people not identifying him as biracial, he said he attempted to find a way to make sense of the confusion. It's a conflicting emotion." "I think people identify me as something, but I identify as a human being," McDaniel said Thursday. "It's weird that it comes up because I've just tried to be a good person, and I think my background opens my eyes a little bit. I know my dad experienced it and that it's in my family. McDaniel initially had "no idea" why, but after a series of temper tantrums, his mother, Donna, finally told him.
The new Miami coach said he is 'extremely proud' of his identity.
I think what I was trying to allude to ... is that you have to come to a realization at some point ... a comfort level, a resolution when you’re younger and have these odd things happening to you ... and for me that was ‘O.K. you‘re a human.' That was my resolution,” McDaniel added. The topic of McDaniel’s racial identity comes at a time of increased tension regarding the NFL‘s hiring practices. When you‘re younger, and that's happening ... it‘s very, very confusing. “It is a unique experience ... being a race and then fully acknowledging that most outside observers, when they perceive you identify you as something other than the race you are,” McDaniel said. “I’m glad you asked that. First and foremost, I’m biracial and my mom’s white and my dad’s Black and I’ve been that way my whole life, but the most important thing is that I’ve been extremely proud of that my whole life,” McDaniel said.
New Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has much to address this offseason where the club's offense is concerned, from a porous offensive line to the ...
A revitalized running game -- Miami ranked 30th in the NFL last year at just 92.2 yards per game -- would provide Tagovailoa with some much-needed support. The 49ers' rushing attack ranked among the NFL's best under McDaniel, including a finish as the league's No.2-ranked run game in 2019 at 144.1 yards per game. "He has to have somebody to throw to, he better not be getting tackled before he throws so somebody better block, and the defense had better not allow them to score but the biggest thing for me with Tua is that I want him to come in and work every day, and I'm very confident that he will."
Mike McD threw around his soaking wet165LBs and axed defensive backs coach Gerald Alexzander and George Godsey. Then he lured former Dolphin's great Wes Welker ...
He already stated that he will be the one calling the plays so we don’t have to worry about trying to crack that riddle. I think the Ram’s defense will end up being too much for Bengal’s offensive line and will get two turnovers. I was hoping that Mike McDaniel was going to bring in Vic Fangio to run the defense. The defense went on a serious run last year mainly because they started to bring an uber amount of pressure on terrible quarterbacks. I think he’s better than Boyer. I think Flores was essentially running the defense with Boyer being like an assistant to Flores last year. These guys, along with hopefully Howard, Sieler, Jones, and hopefully Ogbah will be the defense. But, I didn’t think he would be staying due to his close relationship with Brian Flores. It is what it is and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets deposed as that Brian Flores v. Josh Boyer will be the Miami Dolphin’s defensive coordinator for 2022. Naturally, the Dolphins had no idea how to use him the way he needed to be used and had no idea what they had, and the New England Patriots had no problem sending a 2nd and 7th round pick for a player nobody ever heard of. Welker’s star is on the rise, and I’m glad the Dolphins have him. It’s almost like the Patriots knew something Miami didn’t. Welker preceded to have his way with the league for the next decade. Embree is a well-respecited guy around the league(doesn’t it seem everybody is though?) He did fantastic work with the tight ends in San Francisco so it’s sort of exciting what he can do with the plethora of tight ends that Miami employs.

Is that sort of a sample of what you believe is winning football in the NFL and what do you think it takes to win in the NFL from a play-call standpoint and scheme standpoint?) – "I understand what you're getting at with the question. What told you, "Okay, I'm ready to be a head coach in the NFL?") – "It's funny that every head coach – there's a lot of talk about being ready to be a new head coach and I think you guys have had new head coaches. And it's been obvious in a week and talking to him on the phone, and really all of the due diligence that I did before I got here, that he's not interested in ego. I was and continue to be pretty obsessive compulsive, so I would ride there about seven o'clock in the morning and get as many autographs as I could and stay there until seven and night and ride back home. Whether you're dealing with different players or different personalities, that is one true common denominator is you have to have a starting point of understanding that you can bridge to the next point. (laughter) That whole process, although it is anticlimactic, it is part of it and I can't express the gratitude to everyone to allow me to be up here and to be a part of it. I know exactly what the season is going to bring in terms of there are so many things that go on in the course of the season and there's stressors and you have to worry about kind of focusing the direction of the team; but that's why you spend this time in the offseason finding the people that you can rely on that you can trust and work with so they can help you game plan, help you solve problems. And ultimately, all you want is a guy that's driven to be great, a guy that's driven to get better and it gives you a chance. It gives me goosebumps right now to be a part of something like that, an organization – this is my seventh and I feel like when you're hired and fired that many times and bouncing around the NFL, you get a glimpse at a lot of things and you know when something has the ability to be great and that's all I feel walking in and out of these hallways. But that collectivity and working together with a shared sacrifice is something that can't be replicated, and I am extremely fortunate to be a part of. Each individual that I mentioned and each coach I've been really privileged to work alongside; they made me a better man, a better coach, a better teacher and that's really what my focus is in life. It's the players there but it's really us as the owner, general manager, the CEO working together to produce a team and a team that is always doing the right thing.
Wes Welker became the latest member of the 49ers' coaching staff to join Mike McDaniel in Miami.
Welker joined the 49ers’ coaching staff in 2019 as a wide receivers coach and held the job for three seasons. According to Outkick’s Armando Salguero, wide receivers coach Wes Welker will take on the same role for McDaniel.
Having coached under Kyle Shanahan for years and alongside Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay and Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur, McDaniel -- the ...
His hilarious press conferences over the year went viral online and it appears as if that same personality will take center stage with the Dolphins. And I would kill Sean because he was the last team I played and he beat me." It makes sense that McDaniel chose to marry Shanahan, the two have been joined at the hip for so long.
